Snow watch!

I know it will seem quite crackers to start this when the weekend has been so lovely, but we are starting to get some model consistency on GFS for the potential for snow Friday night into Saturday as a northerly plunge looks set to take place.

Primary risk areas are obviously for hillier parts of Scotland and also Wales, but higher ground in the south and south east including over dartmoor and down the east coast may also see some sleet or wet snow.

Nothing in London (NE). Was hoping we might get some of the Suffolk, Essex, Kent snow. Fingers crossed for Thursday.

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2019 07:27

Wow, you Manchester area lot usually miss out when it comes to snow! The snow shield must have failed!

SillySallySingsSongs · 30/01/2019 07:34

Nothing here, but a hard frost.

Redshoeblueshoe · 30/01/2019 07:35

A few inches of snow here in Manchester

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2019 07:42

Good morning :) I can see there's a nice streamer of snow showers coming into the north west. (I forecasted that yesterday morning Wink )

How did those in East Anglia fare? Did it settle there?

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2019 07:44

It's heavier than I expected though - wasn't expecting a full streamer to form.

Nothing in East Herts 🤨 Not even a frost (that I can see). The rain/sleet came later than they said but it was too wet and warm to settle.
All my hopes are pinned on Thursday now 😁

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2019 07:50

Tomorrow afternoon/evening/night looks to be a primarily southern affair - with the system further south than forecast. This so often seems to happen, that as we get close systems move south. So it takes the north Midlands more out of it with the northern edge around Birmingham or so. Some parts in the south could see around 8-10cm.

Parts near the south coast could see sleet and rain though.
If the system continues its southward trend, we may need to revise the northern extent.

I'm in Essex - quite near East Herts. It was snowing quite heavily last night (I had to drive in it). Only about 1cm is lying this morning.

magimedi · 30/01/2019 07:52

-2C here & icing sugar dusting of snow on the cars & a bit on the top of the downs. None on pavements or roads (that I can see from my window). Happy Magi!

PerverseConverse · 30/01/2019 07:53

North west here and we've got 2 inches of snow and both schools are closed.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 30/01/2019 07:53

I’m thinking nothing for Somerset? < wistful>

Chosennone · 30/01/2019 07:56

Peak District. Lots here! Many higher routes been closed since yesterday ...more than expected. Its also been heavy across into Cheshire and up to Manchester so there has been road chaos already and many many schools closed.

stayathomegardener · 30/01/2019 07:58

Aghhhh should I drive Cheshire to Cheltenham and back today?
2" here in Cheshire currently but maps look clearer further down.

Hadiever · 30/01/2019 08:13

Woke up very excited ( Cambridgeshire) and NOTHING!! Sad

BertrandRussell · 30/01/2019 08:16

Ds only has one lesson at school today so we’re having an “imaginary snow day”. We’re going to pop out in a bit and do some panic buying, then he’s got course work to do and lines to learn, and I’m going to bake. Grin

weneednopants · 30/01/2019 08:28

No snow here (south coast - Dorset) Sad although it is a rarity here. I was hoping for a little dusting. Ds is desperate to build a snowman.

Justmuddlingalong · 30/01/2019 08:29

Very light dusting here on the Fife coast. Better than zilch, but it's really just not good enough. Sad

giveovermypreciousss · 30/01/2019 08:30

Northamptonshire just has frost and ice. All the cold and none of the fun!

borntobequiet · 30/01/2019 08:32

Snow on top of the Malverns, where I hope It stays until (at least) this time tomorrow.

Snow watch!
Monkeybunkey · 30/01/2019 08:44

About a centimetre in North East Essex (on the Suffolk border). Roads are all OK though, sadly, so no snow day for me!

Perihelion · 30/01/2019 08:46

A wee sprinkling of snow here in Edinburgh...... It's a start.

OublietteBravo · 30/01/2019 09:04

Just ice on the Beds/Northants border. The roads were actually OK. Which was surprising given how difficult it was to remove the thick layer of ice from my car this morning.

Watching the forecast for Thursday evening with interest.

borntobequiet · 30/01/2019 09:18

I was pleased to see the snow on the hills in my rather indistinct picture appears as a v. small white blob on Kitten’s map a few posts before!
