Sleety rain here now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/03/2018 11:33

Delatron, that's quite funny!

We are at a balmy 2c.

What a week we've all had. It doesn't quite seem real really.

It's like a dream! The snow is melting so fast. I promised the kids sledging, oh well!!

STARE2016 · 03/03/2018 11:49

Just popping on again to say another huge thank you to OYBBK and Gloria - these threads have been super informative, I've really enjoyed reading.

MorvahRising · 03/03/2018 11:55

It’s nearly all gone! I just had time to make three teeny snowmen in the front garden. I can’t even pretend DS made them; he’s away at university. Blush

Thank you to OYBBK and Gloria from me too, I’ve been glued to these threads and it’s been fascinating to hear everyone’s contributions from across the country!

gttia · 03/03/2018 11:56

Morning all, another big thank you to OYBBK and Gloria for all the updates - very helpful and interesting. Thawing fast here in Bournemouth now. Hope those that are still struggling with snow and now potential floods stay safe.

imelda3 · 03/03/2018 12:08

Thank you OYBBK and Gloria xxxxxx

Papercutsand · 03/03/2018 12:13

Anybody know what the m4 is like (London to newport) due to travel tomorrow morning, not sure how the conditions are at the moment, hoping it thaws

FuzzyCustard · 03/03/2018 12:14

Thawing and raining here now, but the drifts will take a while to go. Now here come the floods..!

Thank you kitten and Gloria for your sterling work. It's very much appreciated.

Papercutsand · 03/03/2018 12:25

Or anybody know if there are delays on the Paddington to wales line

NorthernLurker · 03/03/2018 12:28

1 degree in York. Dh stuck in Dublin on way back from the states, he has hotel room and flight tomorrow so ok. Dd1 has just landed at Luton, needs to get back to Dundee but east coast trains not running past Newcastle so she will come back to us in York and then go on when able. All a pita but not dangerous so think we are very fortunate.

CointreauVersial · 03/03/2018 12:36

Delatron, your wasp will be a Queen wasp which has been hibernating somewhere in your house (probably tucked into the back of a cupboard, or in the folds of an old coat). The rising temperature will make it think it is spring, so it has woken up and will be off to hunt for a nesting opportunity. We usually see 5-10 of them each spring in the house.

Well, what a difference a day makes! It is noticeably warmer in Surrey, and the moisture is back in the air - I can feel it. I drove back down the hill where I nearly got stuck last night and counted nine cars abandoned on the road, or parked in the trees at all angles.

DH is due to fly back from Spain today; he has neatly missed all the drama.

OublietteBravo · 03/03/2018 12:39

It's foggy here today (Bedford) - visibility is definitely less than it was first thing this morning. It's finally above freezing - a balmy 1C outside today. The snow is starting to melt - I expect it will all be gone by Monday.

CiderwithBuda · 03/03/2018 12:41

Dh’s flight was cancelled so instead of landing at Heathrow at 1 and getting the train home he will hopefully land at 3.45 and get a lift with a taxi he uses as he is there anyway. So we need to clear the drive. DS is being fab and has done most of if an I followed with a brush. Could have done with a snow plough though!

Delatron · 03/03/2018 12:52

Cointreau 😱. Are the others dead? Will
There just be one?
I knew I shouldn't have left my heating on all night....

sponkle · 03/03/2018 13:07

DH flight to Birmingham ended up diverted along with all the rest to Manchester. Apparently it was chaos there, but he managed to get a taxi back and got home around 10.30. I was so relieved to see him. Balmy here today around 1° misty but snow isn't melting as fast as I'd expected. Just glad the wind has dropped.

GloriaSmud · 03/03/2018 13:24

Oh no, sponkle ~ that sounds a bit of a nightmare journey but at least he got home in the end.

Delatron ~ I don't think there should be any more. We had one in our conservatory that decided to buzz about on Christmas Day a few years ago. We attempted to get it out but it wasn't having it and disappeared in to the 'apex' bit/roof. I forgot about it but she must have been doing a bit of hibernating because 2 months later, I was sitting in the conservatory and it reappeared. I opened the doors and off it went but there was no sign of others/baby wasps afterwards.

sponkle · 03/03/2018 13:26

Thanks Gloria, really glad you got your snow after all Grin

GloriaSmud · 03/03/2018 13:33

We've reached the dizzy heights of 1.4C here so things are beginning to thaw. We've been sledging and had a snowball fight so the weekend is complete!

The overnight snow being able to show up footprints and everything though has confirmed what I suspected and that is that I have a r...a...t living in my composter (it's been feeding on the hedgehog food I've been putting out.) I'm going to have to burn the composter...

Notmyideamovingon · 03/03/2018 13:45

We really managed to achieve "perfect snow".A really lovely day sledging yesterday after waiting for out all week and practically gone this morning without hanging about. Thank you oybbk and Gloria I do love the weather threads. I am looking forward to the heatwave one thoughGrin

dementedma · 03/03/2018 13:46

finally stopped snowing here in central Scotland but still very cold.

Oh Gloria horrible for you - I really don't 'do' rats (or mice)!

Kent here a good rapid thaw underway - yay!

I need to be able to get back to work on Monday

Thanks again to you both for all of your help and guidance throughout this pretty difficult week [

GloriaSmud · 03/03/2018 13:56

notmyidea ~ give it a few weeks!

dementedma ~ Shock That's a huge amount.

rainbowruthie ~ I don't mind mice, I've had them in there before and they've kept to themselves. But this one, no. It's going to have to go.
