Snowing with serious attempts at sticking here in surrey. Not on the ground yet but everything is getting an icing sugar coating and it has a real swirling snow globe look in the garden as its so windy. Such a contrast from yesterday.
Be careful everyone and stay safe.

icantdothis2017 · 17/03/2018 09:39

First few flakes.
W sussex.
Damn

nannynick · 17/03/2018 09:41

Drove to Bracknell around 8am and it was light snow. Getting more steady now that I am home in Surrey. Meant to be working this afternoon in North Hampshire... keeping an eye on the conditions.

Frouby · 17/03/2018 09:52

Snowing quite heavily atm on the Rotherham/Barnsley borders. Sticking too but roads are still clear.

Dd adamant she off shopping. I am desperate for my hair doing. Brown/blonde/grey is not a good look.

Compromised with an early finish for shopping. I have a big 4 x 4 so will be ok getting home and mounting a rescue mission for dd. But 4 x 4 won't be able to bunny hop over stuck cars or supermorph out of the way of slidey cars which dd doesn't seem to understand.

Absolute worse case scenario and I can't get to her my mam lives about 2 miles away from shopping centre and friend with an even beastier 4 x 4 (old land rover discovery) lives a mile and a half away. So could either get dd to walk home or dispatch friend with beast to pick her up and drop her at my mums.

Dp has laughed at my panicking and sent off shopping in his astra. He laughed at me the othet week when I warned him his way to work was under a yellow warning for snow. He wasnt laughing when he got stuck outside leeds for 2 hours.

My ds on the school army cadet camp in Ashdown Forest spent the night under a sleeping bag and piece of plastic for a roof! Supposed to stay out tonight again but very sensibly they are being taken back to school and we are to pick them up ASAP! Phew!

Sandsnake · 17/03/2018 09:58

Been coming down steadily in south west Surrey for an hour or so now. Ten minutes ago I saw probably the heaviest snow I’ve ever seen in this county. Brilliant! I was annoyed when I saw the forecast at first as it’s spring and we had to cancel plans. Though now it’s here and we have nowhere to be I want all of the snow!Smile

GloriaSmud · 17/03/2018 10:02

booface ~ good decision there!

follyfoot ~ the Peak District is due to get hit hard by it and Manchester itself, is due for a covering throughout today and overnight as well. I think it's the actual journey to the airport that I'd be worried about. When are you due to fly tomorrow?

GloriaSmud · 17/03/2018 10:07

There's a huge 'blob' of precipitation forming over East Anglia at the moment that's getting larger. You can see it here and it'll all fall as snow.

TalesOfStepford · 17/03/2018 10:08

Oh dear, last time it snowed a couple of weeks ago I got stuck in Cardiff overnight & spent 12 hours getting home on several trains the next day culminating in a 9 mile walk as the last bit of my journey was completely cut off. This time I'm staying firmly at home. We have snow here now, (near Bath) but I didn't think it was due to start till tonight.

PestoSurfissimos · 17/03/2018 10:16

Snowing lightly here - outskirts of Brighton, up high on the Downs

gttia · 17/03/2018 10:31

It's not sticking to the roads hooray!!

Follyfoot · 17/03/2018 10:43

Hi Gloria Smile We've got a 'pet dropping off' run at about 9.30 then setting off about 10ish. DH is a really good driver in snow and we have auto socks but guess it isnt looking good is it Sad

Bullet991 · 17/03/2018 10:48

Does anyone know if it'll come to anything on the north east of Scotland? I'm excited

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 17/03/2018 10:57

Ok, if it’s not settling on the roads now, just watery slush, will it likely settle on roads later? I’m really anxious about a drive and whether to cancel or not, i should be home by 6:30 pm. We have a good 2 inches already in Kent here.

Melty · 17/03/2018 10:57

Meant to be driving from Bexhill to Richmond today. Not feeling confident, as I got stuck on the a21 during the last little episode.

WreckTangled · 17/03/2018 11:04

Settling here in West Sussex

GloriaSmud · 17/03/2018 11:10

Follyfoot ~ it's probably going to be a bit of a stressful journey. I'd follow the guidelines (hot drinks, snacks etc) just in case.

Yule ~ I'd cancel. It looks to be getting colder for the Kent area and it'll start settling.

Melty ~ any chance of postponing your journey. It looks awful for the whole London/SE area today and overnight.

Follyfoot · 17/03/2018 11:12

Thanks Gloria

DisabledUserName · 17/03/2018 11:16

Hi team does anyone know what to expect on the Cheshire side of the welsh border? Got a lot of outdoor animals to consider.

SquirmOfEels · 17/03/2018 11:17

There have been snow showers in London on and off all morning with everything from big flakes to sleet, but it hasn't settled (other than on rough surfaces/vegetation - roads/pavements all clear at the moment).

Gusty wind too.

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 17/03/2018 11:19

Thanks Gloria, I really want to postpone but everyone else is telling me to go and it’s fine now do it’ll be fine in 6 hours to get home Confused

Melty · 17/03/2018 11:22

Thanks Gloria, I've just cancelled. I'm a bit risk averse anyway. Bit disappointing but will be catching up with my family on Thurs anyway. Should be summertime by then!

ReinettePompadour · 17/03/2018 11:24

Im definitely within the amber warning area but its 6.5 degrees with blue sky. Its a bit breezy but no snow. Sad
