Just missing the amber warning. If it could not move at all or disappear totally, that would be good

nannynick · 16/03/2018 18:56

As snow once again approaches the UK here are some links for finding out where it is snowing.

Snow Radar - meteoradar.co.uk/realtime-snowfall#

Crowd Sourced Snowmap - uksnowmap.com/#/map-zoom-out

GFS model (hatched areas are predicted snow) - www.meteociel.fr/modeles/gfs/royaume-uni/precipitations-hd/3h.htm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/03/2018 19:02

I'm upping my argh rating to 8 for London and central southern England tomorrow.

Anyone live in zone 1/2 who I can bunk down with tomorrow night? Wink

I just saw met office have changed our 60% chance of light snow to 80% chance of heavy snow.... they always change it though so maybe it'll go back down...

SouthernComforts · 16/03/2018 19:09

Ugh, my area is just on the edge of the amber snow warning, and inside the yellow wind warning. Fun!

The last lot of snow was horrendous, our town was practically cut off, people stranded at our motorway junction, M62 shut, yet the city less than 10 miles away had a couple of inches! Bloody Pennines Angry

SquirmOfEels · 16/03/2018 19:10

The DC will be deeply pissed off it the London snow is on Saturday, as it'll be yucky icy slush by Monday and I expect schools will be open. They're still miffed at no snow days during Beast.v.1

(No space for visitors, not even a lovely kitten chez eels, unfortunately)

Really annoyed that the newfangled BBC forecasts always seem to be at odds with everyone else's

BensonJutton · 16/03/2018 19:20

Is there a cornwall contingent?

OublietteBravo · 16/03/2018 19:24

Did we establish that the argh scale was linear (so an 8 is twice as bad as a 4)? Because if it is logarithmic, then I'm very scared by the update

Frouby · 16/03/2018 19:27

We are bang in the middle of the amber warning. Have a hairdressers appointment 6 miles away. Dd wants to go shopping to the shopping centre 10 miles away.

Hoping for no snow. Hate snow. Dd will strop if I say she cant go. But I don't fancy having to rescue her if the trains get cancelled.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 16/03/2018 19:32

I can't believe it might snow this wend, it has been beautifully sunny today 🌞 so annoying! How can it go from so warm to so cold in 24 hours?! I'm south west...

JeffreyNeedsAHobby · 16/03/2018 19:36

Do we all think that an Amber warning means we would be stranded in London by 4pm if we venture up in the morning? I have to pay £10 for a refund with trainline apparently - does anyone know if that is dropped if the weather means trains are cancelled?

nannynick · 16/03/2018 19:37

argh rating of 8 - Nooooooo... I'm working tomorrow afternoon and evening in Surrey. Maybe London can have the 8 and Surrey could have a 5?

Delatron · 16/03/2018 19:47

Argggh OYBBK! I really want my day out in London. Surely the snow never settles in London?!

WreckTangled · 16/03/2018 19:49

I think the trouble with snow in London is that the overground trains get cancelled. If you're in London and planning on staying until Monday it'll be fine but trying to rely on rail and roads could be risky

Delatron · 16/03/2018 19:53

This is true. I need an overground train, back to Bucks tomorrow evening...

GloriaSmud · 16/03/2018 19:57

For those travelling by train around London, the National Rail disruptions page here will give the latest travel information (about half-way down the 'service disruptions' section, it mentions the severe weather this weekend.)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/03/2018 19:59

It did settle last time Delatron but the main issue was trains heading off into snowier areas.

I'm a bit worried that the south west people think they aren't involved this time, it's changed quickly today hasn't it.

I've noticed that these bouts of snow have been very uniting across the country. Normally we end up with southerners and northerners sniping at each other over coping abilities, but the past few weeks we've all been in it together. Wine Wine

ok, well, if I do get stranded tomorrow tonight, I'll post a message and we can all have a knees up somewhere Grin

OP posts:
Delatron · 16/03/2018 20:01

Thanks Gloria that's really helpful. I like that they are running extra trains overnight to try and keep the tracks clear and putting extra staff on. At least they are trying!

SquirmOfEels · 16/03/2018 20:02

And for those coming to London, this TfL page is usually useful:

tfl.gov.uk/tube-dlr-overground/status/

Delatron · 16/03/2018 20:03

Yes OYBBK!
I'll be following this thread tomorrow (in London) and if stranded we can all hunker on down 🍷🍹

coughingbean · 16/03/2018 20:10

Yes to a knees up!

ScarlettDarling · 16/03/2018 20:31

Ok lovely forecasters....so far I'm trying not to panic as even though we're in a yellow warning zone, the met office aren't predicting anything too drastic for us. I'm in Newcastle, please tell me we're not going to get too much nasty white stuff?!

Delatron · 16/03/2018 20:41

Thanks SquirmOfEels, that's useful. I feel prepared for tomorrow now!

GloriaSmud · 16/03/2018 20:52

Scarlett ~ no, not too much of the wintry stuff. You might get the odd heavy shower, Sunday's probably the day when you might get a bit of a covering but that's about it.
