All gone in Kent, our head teacher has suggested coats this week as it's due to be wet, maybe she follows this thread Wink

OYBBK ~ yes, it would be nice to meet one day, especially as the MN Weather Department (as I call it!) has been going for a while now. (I had to look back and it was January 2010 that it started Shock)

whyhastherumgone ~ I stood outside by our front door this evening and thought the same thing and that it was nice not to 'wrap up,' just to go to the garage or fill up the bird feeders.

Most of our snow has melted during the afternoon and it's now raining. We're beginning to get our pond back as well though whether the frogs that were over-wintering in it have survived the last few weeks, is another matter!

But I'm hoping it's onwards to Spring (or slightly warmer temperatures at least!) now.

Just popped in to say thank you to OYBBK and Gloria. Not only for your kind replies to requests, but also how interesting you make the weather, I've learnt so much! Snow almost rained away here in Nottingham and it was nice today not to wear thermals and walking boots! Nice to watch the birds in the garden, I guess they've all been sheltering away!
Here's to the arrival of some spring weather.

thesandwich · 04/03/2018 22:11

The mn weather department should have an annual general meeting at least!! You do a brilliant double act.🌺🌺🌺

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/03/2018 22:13

Can you believe we've been going that long?
Maybe we should have an AGM! and weather related slides Wink

I'm really hoping for Spring now. I'm fed up of mud.

Good grief! I feel bad for putting a wash on now.

gttia · 04/03/2018 22:37

This is the forecast situation this evening, NE and SW UK struggling for different reasons. It seems very ironic that there are areas in the UK without drinking water at the same time as flooding issues.

All snow gone here in north East Sussex. Trains running ok too. And we had water back on after none all weekend.

DDs birthday celebrations went well and so many friends and family made it too. All good.

Thanks to OYBBK and Gloria for all the updates. Really helpful as well as entertaining. FlowersFlowers

blueskyinmarch · 05/03/2018 09:26

It's still really grim here in east Scotland. The heavy rain has turned the thick snow to mush and rivers are forming on paths. And now it appears to be snowing again.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/03/2018 09:30

I'm glad you got your water back machinebee. It was pretty quiet on the news about it until last night. Happy birthday to your dd :)

bluesky, I'm not surprised , nightmare. How does it compare to your usual winters?

blueskyinmarch · 05/03/2018 09:38

OYBBK we live on the coast. We usually get no snow! And it is usually reasonably dry too. This weather is way beyond the norms of what we usually get!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/03/2018 09:40

Hopefully we should get bread and milk back in the shops today.

Plenty of water here - pouring through the church roof, running down the road, coming out of the river...

I suppose it was inevitable given the melting snow, the incessant rain and high tides.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/03/2018 10:07

Rafa, nightmare! And there's plenty of water showing in the forecast too.

Bluesky, I did wonder, the west of Scotland is notorious for the amount of precipitation it receives. But with the reversal in the usual weather pattern you have copped it.

i don't live on the west coast, i live on the east! Is that what you meant? Brain is scrambled right now!

Justmuddlingalong · 05/03/2018 12:27

Just had a flood warning here in Fife. Oh joy, the fun's never ending. ☔

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/03/2018 13:21

That's what I meant bluesky :) that you are on the opposite side of the country that normally gets the rain.

I'm quite shocked by the impact in parts of the UK, especially London and the SE on the water supply. I expected burst pipes, I didn't expect anything on this scale. The temperatures were unusual, but we've had a couple of other similar bouts of extreme cold in the past 10 years or so.

With that and the impact on transport and gas supplies, I think we are reaching tipping point of coping in the SE.

OP posts:
IrenetheQuaint · 05/03/2018 13:28

I think it's partly a Thames Water issue - they are notoriously rubbish at maintaining the water supply pipes at the best of times (not entirely their fault as I believe much of the network is still Victorian-era) and loose massive quantities of water every day due to leaks. So the extra strain caused by pipes bursting etc has been too much for them to cope with.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 05/03/2018 13:28

We have had no water since Saturday, and yet again DCs schools are closed, but because of the water situation. Beautiful blue sky here though, and snow all gone. It's like last week never happened! !! Thank you so much for all your Stirling work this winter OYBBK and Gloria

BiddyPop · 05/03/2018 14:11

I also want to echo the thanks to OYBBK and Gloria. You've been cheerful and helpful and witty and informative all the time.

I more or less dropped off the threads once the really bad stuff hit, as life chez Biddy was too busy (DD, 12, cannot keep herself occupied, and I was still trying to WFM while dealing with household matters as DH was doing stupid hours in the office and only appearing for meals when he was home!). We slowed down slightly over the weekend, but I never got to just sit and chill.

Anyway, thanks to the advice, I was suitably prepped for the first event, and better for Emma than many. I'm off to check what the rest of this week has in store - especially now that I have a better idea where to look (I had never thought to use the UK Met Office rainfall radar, for example, even though it was offline a lot, as our rain usually comes from the southwest, so Met Eireann's is usually ok - but it wasn't showing what was coming from the east enough only just the tip of Wales, and that also lead to NetWeather's version - both of which are updated every 5 minutes rather than the Irish one every 15 minutes!!).

We're not yet under water restrictions, but there is a threat of it, so I have a 10l bottle of drinking water, and the water butt should have thawed for buckets for the loo by tonight.

But the snow is practically gone here, and we can get back to normality.....whatever that may be! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/03/2018 14:29

I'm so glad we were able to help. It's lovely to hear that it made a difference :)

I feel as though we all need T shirts that say 'We survived Emma and the Beast' Grin

I am sorry for those who now feel they are sinking under water and for those who don't have water in their taps. So much irony in all of this.
