Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

When is it going to warm up?

BlackeyedSusan · 01/03/2018 07:10

it has all been a bit of a storm in a teacup for us this week. (w mids) We have had a few heavy snow showers that do not cover a wide area, but things are melting in the sunshine pretty fast. we have a small covering. the area around school had nearl ya centimeter on the grass.

PilarTernera · 01/03/2018 07:13

It started snowing again just now in north London. I was hoping it would hold off until I get to work.

Frouby · 01/03/2018 07:15

Snowing heavily here in s yorks. Got a couple of inches at the moment. Forecast says it's going to dry up but the sky is full of snow! Bitterly cold and the wind is starting to pick up.

Dp not attempting to get to work. He set off yesterday but was stuck on the M1 before turning back. Schools all closed too.

DP laughed at me on Monday for doing a big shop. He isn't laughing now 😂😂

ShipShop · 01/03/2018 07:17

It's snowed over night in West Herts, not a huge amount on the roads but it's snowing now and I've got to drive to the school run and it's on top of a huge hill! Bit 😬😬😬 Not sure how bad it will get to pick up!

ShipShop · 01/03/2018 07:18

It's also blowing a hoolie out there!

EmyRoo · 01/03/2018 07:20

We (central Scotland red zone) have had several inches overnight on top of several inches yesterday, it’s like a snow apocalypse, it’s blowing everywhere and there are big drifts.

Slartybartfast · 01/03/2018 07:20

weather forecast looks worse today than tomorrow in e. sussex

CiderwithBuda · 01/03/2018 07:20

Freezing rain is dreadful. Had a few of those ice storms in Budapest. Everywhere looks incredibly pretty but it is lethal. Lethal on roads and airports especially have a nightmare as they normally can’t de-ice the planes quick enough.

Snow now forecast for earlier here in Taunton. Was planning a Sainsbury’s run this morning for shopping and fuel but think I will stay closer to home. Will decided after my shower.

DH still optimistic he will be ok flying out of Bristol this morning! Flight leaves around 10.30.

DS doesn’t need to go to school today anyway so that’s good but will need to be in tomorrow, and as it’s also a boarding school it will be open.

NamelessEnsign · 01/03/2018 07:21

OYBBK and Gloria thanks for the amazing threads so far!

I’m in West Oxon. Hardly any snow to speak of yet, on the ground anyway. Our forecast continually seems to be downgraded. I had a crap night (DH away, kids awake, anxiety & overplanning).

No word from their school yet. I’m thinking given the weather warning that it is best for me not to travel to work, in case the weather comes in this afternoon and I can’t get back, especially with DH being away. But it feels a bit preemptive given the lack of actual weather out there right now!

SquirmOfEels · 01/03/2018 07:21

London, look like no snowfall overnight, but falling lightly right now.

I'm just really confused at the differences in forecasts. BBC London say it's amber warning, but Carol's map puts the amber areas some distance from London, and the ones in the Met Office website seem to be changing every time I look at them.

I'm looking ahead to the weekend, when 3 of us have fairly major sports fixtures (all 3 requiring travel to get there,, 2 held outdoors). I'm trying to work out the likelihood of postponements or cancellations (as well as finding out from organisers when their 'go/no go' decision time will be.

Sky looks leaden and full of snow as if it's set in for the day. Wind seems to have dropped.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 07:30

London is not in an amber area. The confusion is down to the way the met office name warning areas. Because part of the London and South East area is under an amber warning they refer to the area as being under an amber warning.

I'm lucky to live a km from an aldi.

I'd happily wander out for supplies if needed - if I didn't think the shelves would have been cleared yesterday in preparation for snow Armageddon Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 07:34

Ensign it's due in your area mid afternoon at the moment. It doesn't look too bad for you but I'm afraid I can't tell you that it will absolutely definitely stay that way.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 07:35

Susan, you are one of the few areas that have escaped the worst of this. How does that feel? Grin

Checking in from Nottingham. We have snow days in the feast household! And it's still coming. Not ventured out yet but I think we've had 3-4" and it's windy. Glad you got your snow OYBBK!
Thank you for your (and Gloria's) amazing information, I've passed it on to so many who have found it so helpful and helped them to stay safe too.

RatOnnaStick · 01/03/2018 07:36

Very fine gritty stuff coming down here above the Romney Marsh. Its not quite snow. Not quite rain. What is it?

ScarlettDarling · 01/03/2018 07:37

Newcastle here, still snowing! Sad It's March!!! My dc are furious as neither of their schools have closed. Ds spent the whole of yesterday sitting in the hall with worksheets as there weren't enough teachers in to teach them, hopefully more will make it in today.

It's the most horrible snow, teeny, tiny little flakes which are blizzarding around. I don't mind the cold but I'm hating this snow. Please tell me it will end soon!

GloriaSmud · 01/03/2018 07:37

BBC now have a live news thing running as well as the Guardian.

I'm Smile at today's weather warnings ~ Leicester right in the middle, the bit with no warnings at all. In reality, we've got light snow with a gusty wind and it's -4C

DartmoorDoughnut · 01/03/2018 07:38

Started snowing here about half an hour ago Smile

BrieAndChilli · 01/03/2018 07:39

Kids school has closed we don’t have more than a few patches of frost here in south east Monmouthshire! Are we likely to get ‘proper’ snow???

DartmoorDoughnut · 01/03/2018 07:41

Oh and our local primary is closed

Haggisfish · 01/03/2018 07:43

Rat-might that be the frozen rain I read about?

WreckTangled · 01/03/2018 07:47

Lots of schools closed but not ours
