Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

Kent calling - day 3 - we have snow falling at the moment - quite heavy and starting to lay on top off the already lying snow from 2 days ago. Bitterly cold wind as well. Can't see the downs from office window and sky is very heavy.

whatalifethisis · 01/03/2018 07:51

Snowing steadily in Kent....the phrase 'be careful what you wish for' is ringing in my ears.

Have to try and manage a community service today for vulnerable people that need their visits.....wish me luck Hmm

LuxembergerQueen92 · 01/03/2018 07:55

Whatalife - good luck - whereabouts in Kent are you? I am in Ashford and it is coming down fast but the main roads are o.k (at the moment)
pavements not so good.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/03/2018 07:57

I’ve got proper snow that’s settling. It NEVER snows here.

Far more excited than I should be. Need to make a decision about what I do about work though. I think I’m either going to get sent home as soon as I get there or am going to get stuck but it’s likely to be passable at the moment.

gttia · 01/03/2018 07:58

Whatalifeisthis - same as me, nhs service and in Kent! Snow coming down here as I type

Hi Luxemberger I'm just down the road from you near Maidstone (waves) My issue is that I can't get my car on to a main road as I live at the end of a very long drive which is downhill!

My other issue is that I work in Bromley where I believe it's not good either. I'm ok because I can work from home but there is going to be lots of problems getting our visits covered.

Partner trying to get to Tonbrige on the train and is stuck at Sevenoaks.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/03/2018 08:00

The BBC were definitely wrong though. Although they’ve upgraded the fore cast from 10% chance of snow to 20% now it’s started snowing.

Met office seem to have got it spot on.

SquirmOfEels · 01/03/2018 08:00

That makes sense OYBBK.

I think this thread is ahead of BBC in terms of accuracy!

gttia · 01/03/2018 08:02

Whatalife I work in Bromley too. At the moment it's ok there, I've just been on a call to staff and the roads are clear.

I'm about to move my car off the hill. We are an nhs service so I feel it's important for me to get in

How likely is London to grind to a halt this afternoon? Can't decide whether to chance it.

LadyFlumpalot · 01/03/2018 08:06

Morning all! It's been snowing all night (I think) in North Dorset but there is disproportionately little on the ground, I think it's because it's no dry it's not sticking but just blowing around into the corners if that makes sense.

DH has gone into work, made a lot of noise about "emergency leave policy says make every effort blah blah".

I've happily seen the school is closed and cheerfully texted my boss to tell her I have my laptop and I'll see her on Monday!

LuxembergerQueen92 · 01/03/2018 08:07

whatalife, gttia, _ good luck today - I applaud you for the vital work you are doing. I am lucky in that my work is only a 10 minute drive from home and if push comes to shove ( quite literally) I can walk it in 30 mins - it's the biting wind that's put me off walking today.

RatOnnaStick · 01/03/2018 08:09

There are bigger flakes among the the grit. Wind's up, it just blows it all around like sand. It's pretty unpleasant to look at coming up from the marsh. Hopefully just a passing shower.

Exercisejunkieforlife · 01/03/2018 08:09

We are in waterlooville in Hampshire, we have a very small amount of snow and my DC school is the only one that is open.

DH has taken them in to school but now I’ll have to walk to collect them later because I will not drive in it due to an accident 7 yrs ago when we had sheet ice.
Meant to work this evening but will be cancelling because of the risk of ice, I am hoping DH won’t have a problem getting home from work later.

OYBBK - any predictions on what may happen here today at all pretty please. ?

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 01/03/2018 08:11

So here in Leeds after a ridiculous amount of snow yesterday morning the afternoon was relatively ok. BBC forecast was saying no snow today until about 2am this morning, but then woke up to heavy snow until the early afternoon. I can't actually remember it being this thick here.

MorvahRising · 01/03/2018 08:12

Snowing here in Surrey but not very heavily and although we were meant to have snow all day the Met Office is now saying it will just be a bit this morning and that’s pretty much it. Sounds like it’s snowing heavily both north and south of us! Most infuriating.

acornwood · 01/03/2018 08:13

Well and truly snowed in here. Live in a small village in Fife. Local nursing home staff having to stay as can't get home . Luckily I work there so I can walk to work tonight . I've been going up to give them a break but have no childcare so can't help during day.
Schools of don't think they'll be back anytime soon. No shop and I've rin out of chocolate 😂

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/03/2018 08:15

I think ours is that you should make a reasonable effort but not to put yourself at a big risk. If you get stuck they’ll provide accommodation and food.

Might go in as early as I can and take a few overnight bits with me.

UrsulaPandress · 01/03/2018 08:15

Just looked at mail online and the photos of the drifting snow are of my local area.

Pity I have to go and do the horse.

Oogle · 01/03/2018 08:15

you OMG, so am I!

CiderwithBuda · 01/03/2018 08:16

Been snowing here since I last posted. Dog walker has cancelled. My Hungarian born dogs won’t be impressed with soft southerners!

DH getting ready to head to airport. He uses a car service and they think still ok.

Notmyideamovingon · 01/03/2018 08:17

Red in South West! Amber seems to have shifted a bit west?

Wingbing · 01/03/2018 08:17

Why does the BBC get it so wrong? App says not snowing here (Exeter) until midday but it has been coming down steadily since 7.

Met office says similar, which is funny as the Met office is in Exeter.
