Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

North Northamptonshire here, could anyone tell me what the likelihood is of us getting more snow, we've had some and school is closed today and the wind is terrible, thank you.

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 08:56

This site seems to be good at showing that band of snow.

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 08:59

MrsOH ~ yes, more snow this afternoon and overnight as well.

oldsilver · 02/03/2018 09:05

No buses until at least midday now for whole First West area.

Metoffice Outlook and it looks like things aren't going to warm up that much during the month.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
Staying cold in the north with further snow likely. Turning less cold in the south through the period with cloud, rain, sleet and snow, increasingly over hills. Generally less windy.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 6 Mar 2018 to Thursday 15 Mar 2018:
Further rain, sleet and snow are expected at times on Tuesday and Wednesday. Northern parts are likely to see the snow, whereas rain or sleet are more likely further south. It will stay very cold in the north with brisk winds. In the south, it will be less cold, but cloud, mist and fog are likely, which may be slow to clear during the day. During the following week, and into mid-March it is likely to stay cold in the north, but temperatures could return nearer normal in the south, though still below average. Rain and strong winds are likely across the UK, perhaps turning to snow across central and northern parts. The best chance of drier conditions will be in the far north and northwest.

UK Outlook for Friday 16 Mar 2018 to Friday 30 Mar 2018:
The predominately easterly wind is likely to persist for a while across the north with colder than average weather here, but it may be a little milder at times in the south and southwest of the UK. There will continue to be a risk of snow across some central and northern areas, but in the far north and northwest it is likely to be drier. Night frost and ice will continue to occur at times. Later in March it may turn more unsettled and milder as westerly or southwesterly winds return. The timing of more Spring-like weather remains uncertain.

OYBBK/Gloria

Do you think this new band of snow will make it as far north as Derbyshire (high peak?)

I'm supposed to be taking dd to her dad's tonight in Manchester. I haven't moved the car all week. Just wondering whether to rearrange.

Thanks Flowers

WreckTangled · 02/03/2018 09:09

Snowing here. Big flakes

Gertrudethestag · 02/03/2018 09:14

gloria whoaaa! And to think all the shops are full of summer clothes already. Last March we started camping.... Definitely won't be camping for a long while yet. Even in Cornwall!

UnnecessaryFennel · 02/03/2018 09:15

Have made it into work but no idea how many of my students are going to turn up. Roads are clear and trains were running ok but it was very quiet, lots of people sensibly deciding to stay home I think.

Bit concerned about that band of snow on gloria's last radar link - am in London and need to get home to Surrey. Hope I don't end up like those poor commuters out of Waterloo last night - stuck on a train for 12 hours!

coughingbean · 02/03/2018 09:16

North Hampshire, no snow and milder than yesterday.
According to met office we should see more snow later. I'm not sure I believe it!

MrsOH2004 · 02/03/2018 09:18

Thank you Gloria, will go shop this morning, thankfully it's not my Friday to work and hopefully Dh is home from work before it starts.

youarenotkiddingme · 02/03/2018 09:18

I remember similar about 8 years ago? It snowed unexpectedly in April. However the April before or after that (can't remember!) we had sent the day at the beach as it was unseasonably hot!

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 09:22

The Donald ~ there is supposed to be some snow, starting this evening and overnight. This webcam (one of my new-found favourites!) might give you an idea of the state of the roads in the area before you decide whether to set out or not.

Gertrude ~ I know! DH went out last night to pick up a sleeping bag from Halfords, with the aim that we use it for camping this year. Don't think we'll be using it yet!

whyhastherumgone · 02/03/2018 09:24

Eurgh more snow has just started up in Essex (Easterly). Really thought we were done with it!

Stay warm and safe everyone x

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 09:27

UnnecessaryFennel ~ might be worth keeping an eye on this website for news of any travel disruption.

MadisonAvenue · 02/03/2018 09:29

South Staffs/West Mids border. No fresh snow overnight but a brutal wind. I took the dog for a walk in the woods at 6.30am which wasn't the best idea I've ever had I must admit. There were lots of fallen branches and I got stuck in a thigh high snowdrift at one point. Buses were suspended first thing along the A road in our village as the police had closed the road but they seem to be running now. My husband didn't think he'd get into work as that's the only through road but once it opened he set off and surpringly his 15 mile commute only took 40 minutes.

whyhastherumgone · 02/03/2018 09:31

@Gloriasmud @ohyoubadbadkitten don't suppose you have any wisdom on what's likely to happen in Chelmsford/Billericay way today? DH is stuck on a train halfway to London and debating whether to carry on to work or head back once he can finally get off at a station!

The freezing rain some of you have experienced sounds terrifying, I don't think I've ever seen it first hand and I'm really not keen to!

OublietteBravo · 02/03/2018 09:31

Bedford. Fine, powdery snow all day yesterday (despite not being forecast) - a bit more overnight too. Perhaps an inch in all. (We never get very much here - I grew up in a Pennine village in N.Yorks where we used to get loads).

State schools all seem to be shut (but DD and DS's private schools are open as usual). DH has gone to London (trains permitting).

Cold in the wind, but not terribly windy (we had strong winds forecast yesterday - but they didn't materialise).

I'm WFH today - as per the advice from the site leadership team at work. I feel a bit of a fraud though - the roads are clear and I think I could've got in without any issue (I made it there and back yesterday when the weather was much worse).

lubeybooby · 02/03/2018 09:41

The drifts here are nuts. 7ft in places! Several smaller roads, the type with hedges on each side, somehow it's managed to drift on BOTH sides and meet in the middle, so there is country hedge height snow completely filling the road (south shrops hills)

TheDonald · 02/03/2018 10:02

Thanks Gloria. I think we'll get the train this afternoon. I don't fancy digging my car out.

Keep up the good work both of you.

CointreauVersial · 02/03/2018 10:17

Netweather snow radar shows us right under a blue patch of snow now....and there's NOTHING, maybe a couple of tiny fairy flakes every now and then. This is the "band of snow", apparently sweeping across the south-east today. I won't get my sledge out yet, then, eh?

oldsilver · 02/03/2018 10:19

Doh - just cleared and salted the pavement outside and it's snowing again!

whyhastherumgone · 02/03/2018 10:20

Winds really got up here now and snow is horizontal and coming down thick and fast. Bloody cold as well!

Perihelion · 02/03/2018 10:23

Buses starting to run again in Edinburgh, with a Sunday service. Main roads near me are black again so we're off to the best local sledging hill.
That'll be the snow away as I've mentioned the S ( ledge ) word Wink

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 10:24

CV it can evaporate before it gets to the ground sometimes! You also can get false radar returns.

Anyone who has travelled by train in the south, please check your networks twitter feed.
