Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

Yes Basseting, in the borders, even if we could get off the hill all the surrounding roads are shut so nowhere to go! Never seen snow like this before!

Gertrudethestag · 02/03/2018 08:14

We had heavy wind and rain last night and yet there is still snow everywhere. There are rumours of further snowfall but I would be suprised!

Didn't sleep at all; I listening to the wind. Should be used to that as its pretty standard.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 08:15

Dazzling don't rely on the automated output for today. It keeps changing.

People can scroll up (down?) to see the GFS forecast maps for today. I can not vouch for their accuracy, they aren't really reflecting what I'm seeing on the radar at the moment which looks more fragmented.

The GFS feed seems to show a wide band of snow across the s/sw/cent zone. Windy and cold here still (nw London).

AFingerofFudge · 02/03/2018 08:21

Just about to head to bed after a nightshift (NHS). Walked to work last night but got a lift home from a colleague's husband in his 4x4. We had lots of powdery drifting snow overnight (Gloucestershire) and most roads were impassable for ordinary cars but it was incredible to see on our way up a hill that a couple of drivers clearly thought their driving skills were up to the challenge (they weren't) and were trying to get down! I know some people genuinely do have essential journeys but even so!

oldsilver · 02/03/2018 08:21

No buses in Bristol til at least 9am when they will then reassess. Only seen a couple of 4x4s on my little street. Can't see evidence of freezing rain so far. -1.4 on the weather station which is the warmest it's been all week!

Pennina · 02/03/2018 08:22

Pressed post too soon, wanted to add what an outstanding service - your ceaseless review of all the various sites is giving a far more accurate picture than anything the more basic app type information supplies! I'm sure you have saved a lot of people a lot of grief and the more badly affected areas. BrewCake

Windy overnight in NE Surrey (and now), but no new snow, roads all clear and open.

I would be very interested to see if the promised snow this afternoon materialises. I'm off to work now (no excuse to stay home, unfortunately).

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/03/2018 08:24

I think the wind’s still picking up. The initial warning had it dying down by now but looks like it’s now going to be windy for most of the day.

Looking at the met office site the yellow warning we still have is for snow and ice not wind and snow/ice.

Frouby · 02/03/2018 08:31

We are in Rotherham, south yorkshire. Under 2 yellow warnings for snow and snow and ice. And about 10 miles off the edge of an amber warning for snow.

Local metoffice weather forecast shows only a 10% chance of snow today until 5pm when we could get a bit of a flurry. Hoping it's right! Really don't want anymore snow.

Oddgirlout · 02/03/2018 08:32

Freezing rain in Kent, it’s horrible!

perhapstomorrow · 02/03/2018 08:37

Only very light snow for a couple of hours last night in Surrey /South London borders. The rain /snow shown on the radar last night seemed to fizzle out as it hit the coast. Wind is still blowing strongly. Not convinced that we will have any more snow although it is forecast for today.

BestIsWest · 02/03/2018 08:38

Feel quite miffed that we missed out in Swansea as Pembrokeshire to th3 west and Cardiff to th3 east have had loads.

We’re in a snow shadow caused by the mountains apparently.

FreshTart · 02/03/2018 08:39

Cambrian coast, NW Wales - no snow overnight but my god, Ive never heard wind like it, still blowing badly now. Trees are down everywhere, loose tiles, and the roads the other side of the mountains are barely open due to snow. Gusts of 95mph have been reported just down the coast

SleightOfMind · 02/03/2018 08:39

Snow day here in SW London. Only just enough on the ground to go sledging so we’re going to give it a try.

DH and I both working from home so need to tire the DCs and dogs out!

Stay warm, dry and safe everyone.

gttia · 02/03/2018 08:44

In north Kent the roads are clear and trains running well. It's very cold though and they are suggesting another 10cm this afternoon? Can that really be right?
It's country walk from the front door to a lovely pub tmrw. I can't wait

gttia I'm unsure to be honest. I can see what is forecast and I can see what is currently on the radar. I'm struggling to reconcile the two at the moment.

oh no oddgirl :(

It's really horrid out there today, the wind is nasty.

aha!! I can see a band of snow over France headed this way now. That's what the models are picking up.

Watch out for burst pipes as the south starts to warm up tomorrow and more on Sunday.

No snow overnight in our bit of Dorset. 0 degrees and very icy. Icicles everywhere and ice still on the windows! Don't know if it shows I the pics but the snow is shiny with ice.

3rd snow day in a row here in Fife. snow very deep and really strong wind today. Horrible, horrible weather. Sick of it

Delatron · 02/03/2018 08:54

Just watching BBC news (I know they are not the best) but they are still forecasting a band of snow to come up through the South this afternoon.
We were under an Amber yesterday (S.Bucks) but only have an inch or so if that, I think it stopped overnight. Schools all closed. The local weather guru (?) thinks this afternoon will be worse than yesterday here but met office have us back to yellow with just snow flurries. We will see!
