Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

howyalike ~ might be a slight thaw at times over the weekend but there's also a little more snow forecast as well. It isn't really until midweek that things look like they warm up a little.

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 07:15

Oh notmyactualname ~ he's going to have to be ultra careful out there.

howyalikedemapples · 02/03/2018 07:18

Thanks Gloria, looks like we are here for a while then!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/03/2018 07:21

My phone reckons 1 degree. Weather station at the airport is measuring about 0 so that’s probably about right. Might get as warm as 3 degrees later. Although I’d bet it will feel much colder.

It does sound like there was freezing rain elsewhere and the road is still blocked so I’m not actually going anywhere.

Notmyactualname · 02/03/2018 07:22

It’s like an ice rink. Never seen anything like this in my life! I think he’s an idiot for attempting to go out.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 07:31

I think that's sensible Rafa, tiny changes in location could make a big difference.

Notmyactualname. Unless your dh works in a truly vital area, I agree, he's an idiot.

Where are you Not? Devon & Cornwall police are telling people not to use the roads the morning and to take a literal interpretation of ‘essential’.

I don’t think they can call people idiots, but that was pretty much the tone of the tweet.

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2018 07:35

I quite like this ~ front page of The Daily Record.

DartmoorDoughnut · 02/03/2018 07:35

Morning! No snow overnight Sad I know lots of people have it bad but I so wanted a proper lot here! Still bitterly cold and it’s trying to snow so I hope there is enough for my eldest to make a snowman later on.

Off to find some food and water for the poor birds

Well it kept snowing for a bit last night and then seems to have finished with a spot of freezing rain here in Pembrokeshire - there's a crust on the snow and my car is solid! Had about 5 inches with more depth in the drifts - not seen snow like this here for years, and I'm lower than some parts of the county....

We’re in Dorset

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 07:50

Thanks for the reports, it's really helpful to verify, or not what it looked like on the radar.
I'm seeing a lot of reports of ice from east side of Hampshire through to Exeter and beyond.

Bassetting, very useful advice.

Oxon/glos border checking in - snowed most of the night and still snowing - hard to tell exactly how much as it's drifting everywhere but reckon around 3 inches or so. Dh just set off to get the snow plow to try and clear some of the roads round the village and he's found drifts which he's struggled to get the tractor through 😮 Even our milkman didn't make it and I've never known her to fail to deliver!

Wind really gusty, temp is -4 and the snow falling is that really fine icy stuff. Schools closed and apart from sorting out the animals on the farm I'm planning on staying inside today Smile need to dig the chickens out too as the snows drifted up against their coop doors Shock

magimedi · 02/03/2018 07:58

3 miles inland from Eastbourne. No snow -.5C & a tiny bit of drizzle (not freezing). Still very windy & have no plans to go anywhere today.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 07:58

whojamaflip - yay for your dh. What a hero! Good luck today,
i suspect it's going to be very hard work.

My gym has announced it will be closing at 4 today, instead of 10.

They're obviously expecting bad weather.

Basseting · 02/03/2018 08:00

BadKitten
dont mean to be a negative nelly but you cant get north of Alnwick by road or rail atm. cant get across the Scottish Borders / Cumbria. Edinburgh/Glasgow/central bad still bad

I have a friend in Outer Hebrides having a fine time though. NO snow

youarenotkiddingme · 02/03/2018 08:02

OYBBK Hampshire has severe ice rain atm. It's actually shining on the roads in some places and is drizzling continuously.

lubeybooby · 02/03/2018 08:04

South Shropshire hills this morning -never seen drifting snow before. Village totally cut off now

Met office don’t seem to be updating anything for the SE this morning (we are SW London / N Surrey). We have the amber that expired at 8am, and the yellow for all of today which was last updated at 11am yesterday. All the schools and nurseries here are shut on account of the fact they are expecting bad weather later, but met office doesn’t seem to think it will be much more than a few showers?

What are they seeing that we’re not?

howyalikedemapples · 02/03/2018 08:05

Basseting it’s a nightmare isn’t it, my parents live in Berwick but luckily can walk to the shop, that’s if the shops have a anything in them! I don’t think we have a chance of getting out until this thaws which being on top of a moor could be a way off yet, might have to do the 6 mile trek to the coop tomorrow 😞

Basseting · 02/03/2018 08:08

howyalikedemapples are you Borders???
exH has been stuck there for 3 days.
