Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

It shows how fast the snow came down that the Haldon Hill severe weather plan seems to have been beaten by it. I think they were really hoping they could keep at least one lane open.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/03/2018 22:40

Really pleased he’s home, Birgitte.

Wingbing · 01/03/2018 22:41

rafals they have the slip roads and the bridge and they have started to send cars northbound to Exeter services

Wingbing · 01/03/2018 22:41

*cleared the slip roads

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 22:47

Just checked in to see before I turn off my light. I'm so pleased Birgitte :)

We are in rural North East Cumbria and have been completely snowed in since Tuesday night. Even the major roads in Cumbria are almost impassable - A69 and A66 have been/are shut, as are smaller routes. Cumbria Police have now shut the M6 motorway down to one lane along the entire length of county and imposed a maximum speed of 30-40mph across the whole stretch. The police are pleading with the public to only make journeys if the health of you or someone else would suffer.

It sounds like elsewhere in the country is experiencing similarly treacherous conditions. I hope everyone stays safe.

Jungfraujoch · 01/03/2018 23:07

Alabamashakes that sounds awful. Stay safe.

ineedaholidaynow · 01/03/2018 23:20

A30 is shut in Devon too. Wouldn't like to be stuck in my car tonight Sad

gttia · 01/03/2018 23:28

Snowing again in north Kent and met office say that it will all day tmrw. Wind is up too. I've booked leave ages ago for tmrw so will treat myself to a morning in Bluewater!

we have been forecast snow all week so far. Nothing much happened. today it was forecast no snow. we have snow. not much. it is blowing about a bit though and drifiting with bare patches in places. however, a thin layer on the roads is horrendous. extremely slippery. and blowing in clouds across the road infront. much drier snow than usual.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/03/2018 23:35

also we were forecast 90% chance of heavy snow for now and nothing. that 10%won! (for now anyway. )

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2018 23:40

Howling icy wind in Surrey....still no decent snow, though.

School has decided to close tomorrow - maybe they know something I don't? I'm predicting a few more weedy flakes, and perishing cold, but not enough snow to make a flipping snowball. And I shall have to go to work - boo.

Perihelion · 02/03/2018 00:06

It's windy. Reading from the Forth bridge is a mean speed of 47mph and gusts of over 60mph.still coming from the east. Still some snow showers.

ineedaholidaynow · 02/03/2018 00:07

Have seen news reports saying that there are over 300 cars stuck on the roads in Devon.

TwuntingCrow · 02/03/2018 00:10

Brighton here - windows covered with ice - it looks like they've all been pebble dashed with ice .. it's really odd ...

Lucky11111 · 02/03/2018 00:26

That's freezing rain on the windows.

Imagine turning a road to glass - then pouring oil all over it. That's what freezing rain feels like.

I saw this only once before. About 20 years ago.

Was a paramedic - sent to a stretch of road with cars upside down every 100 yards. so many injured people.

Please - stay indoors !!

HelenaDove · 02/03/2018 01:02

Getting really windy here in North Essex. We arent on a weather warning for wind though.

Sostenueto · 02/03/2018 02:19

Can't sleep because wind so loud. Pup is crying too.

drinkswineoutofamug · 02/03/2018 05:52

Morning from Cheshire east. If it snowed again over night I don't know. The wind is so strong , how my fence is still up I don't know?! Sounds like a freight train. Got some pretty impressive snow drifts in the back garden

MayhemandMadness01 · 02/03/2018 06:07

Looks all quiet just north of liverpool. No more snow and looks dry on the roads so I dont think we got the freezing rain either. Doesn't sound too windy but its cold.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 06:10

Good morning all.
Potentially extremely dangerous conditions in parts of Dorset and SW Hampshire areas where it looks like there is still an area of freezing rain.

If you are in that area and this is still the case do not attempt any journeys unless there is absolutely no choice.

Untreated roads and pavements are just ice , but main roads clear. Off now for my 12 hour shift. I'm lucky I'm within walking distance of the hospital

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2018 06:16

drinkswine I hope you have a good day today.
