Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

whyhastherumgone · 01/03/2018 20:18

where are you @summersgoneaway ?

Jungfraujoch · 01/03/2018 20:19

Apparently it’s the dreaded freezing rain!! Don’t want to put my head out the door to check. But reading local newsfeeds it’s absolute chaos on the roads.

Gertrudethestag · 01/03/2018 20:21

It has stopped snowing. Whats next? Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 20:22

shit Jungfrau. I'm seeing reports in some of the weather forums. Stay in.

There's a fair bit on twitter about it.

It's quite likely that following the freezing rain there will be more snow on top of it.

i think our snow has started to turn into rain in the last 15-20 mins or so.

All of you who were wondering about my Thursday evening flight, I made it across the country from MCR to London, then across London to the airport with only about a 40 minute delay. Well within contingency.
Checked in and found I'd been upgraded to business classGrin.
Today is a good, if cold, day!
Snowed in Sale from 4am-10am despite Met Office predictions of

Yes freezing rain here - Dorset/Hants border

Jungfraujoch · 01/03/2018 20:31

Not going anywhere OYBBK - nice bottle of red open, fire on, snuggles with the dog.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/03/2018 20:32

Just outside of Exeter, so that would fit.

It’s definitely sounding ‘heavier’ on the window but it’s a bit difficult to see.

Frolicacid · 01/03/2018 20:32

Just wanted to say thanks to gloria and OYBBK. I posted earlier in the week as we are on holiday in South Wales and due to travel home to north wales tomorrow. All the fab forecasting on here led us to extend our holiday until Monday. The snow has finally hit Pembrokeshire tonight. tomorrow we will (hopefully) be enjoying taking our toddler sledging for the first time and not worrying about travel. Phew!! Thank you both so much for taking the time to do this.

LadyFlumpalot · 01/03/2018 20:33

Still heavy snow on the North Dorset/Wiltshire border. Praying it doesn't turn to freezing rain.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 20:36

You're welcome Frolic :)

Yes. If it hadn’t been for the two of you, I might not have left work when I did. Or been quite so prepared.

It's very windy here. Still snowing but it's very fine flakes. No real accumulation.

ifonly4 · 01/03/2018 20:45

In Gloucestershire here. Time will tell, but it's definitely calmer here than at teatime. We've had powdery snow all day and it hasn't got any worse and the winds have dropped a bit.

GloriaSmud · 01/03/2018 20:46

That's excellent, Frolic I'm glad you were able to extend your holiday.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 20:51

You can see renewed snow threatening the south and the area of freezing rain.

Well, we had a snowy, snowy afternoon here in SW Cornwall- spent some time staring out of my mate's kitchen window in awe as it, er....fluttered it down Grin. It's gone from about 2 inches to about 5-6 inches, with loads of lovely fluffy, powdery drifting. Just went outside, and there are some beautiful, Arctic- style drifts of about 2ft high, and blown snow demons dancing.

But....rain still forecast, not expecting to see much left tomorrow. Fucking bloody school and pre school are still going to be closed though...I am extremely pissed off. It may well be icy in the morning, but with predicted temps of 4-5 (and no significant drop tomorrow night) I reckon it's all going to thaw quite soon. I'm having an amicable argument with friends about whether I'm right though, so let's see (I was right about when it was going to start on Wednesday morning, though. Just saying Wink).

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 01/03/2018 20:55

Wow, new amber warning puts me just outside of it but earlier it was much further west so looks like it could get interesting again.

Stay safe everyone Brew
