Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

Still nothing in Cheshire 🙄 just absolutely freezing wind, perhaps the coldest I've ever felt!

Titsywoo · 01/03/2018 20:57

Looks like that's going to just miss us in East Surrey?

gttia · 01/03/2018 20:59

Oybbk and Gloria you've really helped me plan my nhs clinics and staff this week. You are truly wonderful to do this in your spare time. If I could send you flowers on behalf of staff and patients I would Flowers

It's funny that someone mentioned rain. I poked my head out of the back door and it felt like rain but I felt too stupid to say so.
It was rain. Not snow melting on me.
Near Worthing, very coastal.

Titsywoo this is a close up on the latest amber warning

Just been told that the school DDs 2 and 3 go to is closed tomorrow. At the moment there isn't any huge depths of snow here (Leicester) but they're closing because what snow we've had, is blowing around as they try to clear the site. I see from the metoffice, that we're due to be getting heavy snow in the early hours of tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see what changes in the way of amounts overnight.

perhapstomorrow · 01/03/2018 21:03

Just had a message from our school. "Snow update: we have just received an Amber weather warning for all of Surrey. After careful consideration we have decided to close the school for tomorrow....". No new met office warnings (in past hour)for where I am so wandering if schools get the warnings before anyone else?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/03/2018 21:03

If anyone is in Devon, Stagecoach are saying they are unlikely to be running any buses in Exeter or East Devon tomorrow morning. They are hoping to run a reduced service in North Devon and will review Torbay and Plymouth tomorrow.

GloriaSmud · 01/03/2018 21:04

Aw gttia ~ glad we were able to help.

Gertrudethestag · 01/03/2018 21:14

We have heavy rain now (well it sounds heavy!)

Sostenueto · 01/03/2018 21:17

9 foot high drift found on railway line between Norwich and London. A146 dreadful. Wind horrendous blowing snow all over the place. My boiler leaked everywhere, frozen pipe outside thankfully sorted within 3 hours only because next doors froze too and I'd just called gas peeps out so when they turned up next door I managed to catch them and they did mine too! My dd not so lucky, private landlord and she's just got home to flooded house as boiler went and pipes froze inside and out! She rang landlord who said he's in Spain! Hopefully someone will come to fix tomorrow but had to cancel work as I can't get to hers as we are snowed in.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 21:18

oh goodness Gttia. As Gloria says we are happy to help. I was very grateful that the clinician I saw today made it in to the hospital.

Perhaps - it will be fascinating to see.

I can't imagine what some of your snow drifts are like. I think on the level we have 8cm, but it's very hard to tell as in some places it is calf deep and other places completely bare.

SilverHawk I hope that you don't get too much of it.

stubborn exactly the same here! Everywhere is going to be shut & I dont know why - forecast looks like a standard rainy day tomorrow. I am happy to be proved wrong though. But with temperatures getting mildier I just can't see how it will be anything but mizzle & rain.

It was beautiful whilst it lasted though

MadisonAvenue · 01/03/2018 21:19

Today has been much worse than any forecast predicted for where I am in the Midlands. It's snowed steadily all day and all bus services have been cancelled - thankfully my son decided against going into college for his Thursday afternoon lesson, he'd have been affected if he had, and college has decided to close tomorrow.

We've just been across to the village shop for essentials (biscuits and crisps) and even the A road which runs through here has thick snow on it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 21:20

Gertrude :(

Sostenueto x post with my pathetic teeny drifts. What an utter nightmare with the burst pipes.

Gertrude how far west are you?

Madison, it has been very persistent in parts of the midlands.

Thanks ajandjjmum! Just got to LHR. M25 & M40 fine with most people driving slowly & sensibly. It’s the little local roads near home that were horrible as expected. Will have company on the way back & a large glass of wine to look forward to 🍷!

Gertrudethestag · 01/03/2018 21:27

OYBBK Near Penryn & Falmouth Smile

Gosh the tales of frozen pipes & leaking boilers are dreadful! Hope it all gets fixed asap

LadyFlumpalot · 01/03/2018 21:28

I'm a bit snowed in Grin the wind is whistling around my porch and creating two drifts with a clear area in the middle. Photos are of my back gate and the back door (as far as I can lean over the windowsill)

stubbornstains · 01/03/2018 21:29

gertrude in our group of friends it was all "Oh, well X says he's seen the forecast and it's going to be freezing rain and then snow again, and he's a coastguard, so he should know".

So I asked X which forecast he was following.........and he linked to the BBC national televised forecast, and , indeed, there was the forecaster waving his hand at the whole of the South West, going "And the South West is going to have freezing rain, followed by snow".

Seriously, I give up.

DilysMoon · 01/03/2018 21:30

Just heard of a wind warning covering us in N Cheshire. Not surprised at all, its really strong. Still no snow though unfortunately Sad

Wingbing · 01/03/2018 21:33

Still lots of cars stuck in Haldon Hil just outside Exeter. Not sure why this isn’t on the news.

stubbornstains · 01/03/2018 21:33

I'm 4/5 miles west of gertrude, and, yes, it's just started to rain. Patches of snow clearing already.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 21:34

Wind warning is for tomorrow Dilys. crazy warning map

Stubborn for much of the SW those warnings are valid and really important that they are got out. I get it must be frustrating for you.

Lady we can't see the photos, I'd love to see them though!
