Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

OYBBK ~ Excellent, might as well enjoy the snow while you've got it!

So Emma has sort of moved eastwards but only because of an increase in size.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/03/2018 18:36

There have been pictures of people snow boarding here. Perhaps the time to follow through on those Winter Olympics aspirations?

Although the ski club in Torquay has had to close due to...snow

Delatron · 01/03/2018 18:39

Have the warnings just changed again? Looks like we've gone to an Amber here in Bucks. The forecasts now showing more snow than before. I guess that's in line with a shift East.

Exercisejunkieforlife · 01/03/2018 18:42

DH is Home at last only took 3 hrs.

Can I just ask on that Meterradar there is a dark purple /blue bit over us at about 9pm is this just heavier snow or rain ?

WreckTangled · 01/03/2018 18:46

We're in Amber now

llmb · 01/03/2018 18:47

OYBBK or gloria sorry if someone has asked you but I can’t see they have...

We’re e.sussex and the forecast today was heavy snow, the forecast right now supposedly snow but it only snowed lightly at 7am. Tomorrow lights snow, does it look as though the snow has now done its bit down here? I

MorvahRising · 01/03/2018 18:50

Amber here as well now!

BirgitteNyborg · 01/03/2018 18:52

DH now stuck in barely moving traffic. Taken him 2.5 hours to travel about 1 mile. He has 6 miles still to go :( Google maps showing roads gridlocked all the way home. So stressed :(((

Avebury · 01/03/2018 18:55

So is Emma bringing snow or just wind? SW London here

youarenotkiddingme · 01/03/2018 18:56

Aww exercise glad he's home. I live not far from there and it's been snowing since 2pm non stop. It's more the slippery ness of the snow here.

GloriaSmud · 01/03/2018 19:01

Delatron ~ yes, they have updated the warnings ~ amber warning extended eastwards. West Midlands/down towards London all included now.

llmb ~ the system seems to have got bigger (something it wasn't forecast to do) and is then moving northwards, so you may well see some snow (or some awful freezing rain) overnight.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 19:02

updated warnings

From the met office for overnight in the south
"Between 18:05 Thu 1st and 08:00 Fri 2nd

Heavy snow affecting southwest England and parts of Wales is extending further east across parts of southern and central England. The snow will be accompanied by very strong easterly winds leading to blizzards and considerable drifting. From Thursday evening some places could also see ice build up due to freezing rain, mainly across southwest England. Long delays and cancellations of public transport seem very likely. Some roads may become blocked by deep snow, stranding vehicles and passengers. Long interruptions to power supplies and other utilities are likely to occur, along with possible damage to trees and other structures due to heavy snow or ice. This is an update to extend the amber area northeastwards."

Still coming down hard in Exeter. Vehicles stuck on Haldon Hill still, poor people.

Local hotel and garage are looking after them. I will venture up later when DCs are in bed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 19:09

Poor people Wing :(

Birgette - your poor dh. Try not to worry too much, he might get very cold and tired, but you'll have him home.

Thank so much Gloria and OYBBK. You're both in sync with each other!

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 01/03/2018 19:20

The wind is really getting up here in North Surrey, taste of things to come? No more snow at the moment though.

falcon5 · 01/03/2018 19:29

I'm on the edge dartmoor and have moved from "Oh well let's check everything ok" but also feeling a bit embarrassingly like over sensible Norman to "ok we are pretty cut off now. Kind of wish I hadn't changed my mind when I suggested 80 year old relative recovering from Op had gone to stay in town". Why did I change my mind? Because relatives said don't be daft the gritters will keep the road open.....
