Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

They have announced the closure of my eldest school tomorrow. Bit confused as the forecast isn't really showing any more snow. I wonder if they know something we don't! 😕

Jungfraujoch · 01/03/2018 16:14

What does the snowflake/thermometer symbol mean on weather app?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 16:16

I hope you are home soon wreck. You poor old sausage. That's what insurance is for.

I'm curious about the difficulties in supply, it's not just down to increased consumption.

perhapstomorrow - we've recently had a message that DD school will be closed tomorrow too. Just waiting on the boys school now. They are two minutes apart but did different things on Tuesday Confused.

Gertrudethestag · 01/03/2018 16:18

So much snow now as predicted. Our forecast is for rain later so we now have flood warnings issued due to rain & high tides.

Spudlet · 01/03/2018 16:20

Well, I got to the shop. It's flipping cold though and the wind is vicious. I was ok in all my hillwalking kit but I wouldn't want to be out without it. Drifts well over my boots and on my return trip, my footprints had been totally covered by drifting snow. I'd be very wary about venturing out without proper winter kit, even for a short trip.

I did get my latte though Grin

ItsNachoCheese I’m also Alloa. I’m desperately needing milk. Got enough for wee ones bottle tonight and tomorrow morning. But can’t get out to Asda for some. Don’t even know if it has any???

Gertrudethestag · 01/03/2018 16:24

Accuweather has a diamond shape for just "ice". Wonder if the thermometer sign means ice too?

FuzzyCustard · 01/03/2018 16:25

We still don't have masses of the stuff... coming down but very fine and only a very light covering on the ground. I was expecting a huge snow drop...no idea if it's coming later or not.

lubeybooby · 01/03/2018 16:25

all day blizzard here (south Shropshire hills) and today's high temp has been -5.6c with a windchill of -14c so that's lovely Hmm

stupid powdery fine snow and blowing a hoolie

even our usually brave and heroic postie has given up today, won't be getting any post till at least Monday. Can't blame them tbh the roads are knackered despite being gritted

Jungfraujoch · 01/03/2018 16:26

That’s the one Beachy! Couldn’t download a pic!

AlishaMary · 01/03/2018 16:26

support.apple.com/en-gb/HT207492 The symbol means frigid temps apparently Confused

oldsilver · 01/03/2018 16:36

Heman I remember that Saturday morning! A water pipe went on St Michaels Hill.

It is actually still snowing in Bristol Shock Snowball fight had ✔
Snowman built✔ Emergency dash to shops as run out of milk...and so had the shop nearly ✔ Snow angels ❌ not deep enough to cover possible cat poo.

Copper1122 · 01/03/2018 16:42

Can anyone make a guess at when things will be pretty much back to normal? E.g. when the roads will be clear and transport working and average temperature?
The snow is pretty but causes anxiety!

Sittinonthefloor · 01/03/2018 16:44

Are the cat poos not frozen?💩

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 16:47

@hoochymama1 I would get him to stay. The police are saying do not travel unless it is absolutely necessary.
Presumably he’s coming into St David’s. There’s a premier inn opposite the station.

gttia · 01/03/2018 16:55

North Kent now has snow again from tmrw lunch time until Saturday! Is this going to happen? I thought it was all over

GloriaSmud · 01/03/2018 16:56

Some posters on the regional netweather forum are wondering whether the storm system has moved more in an easterly direction than was originally forecast, (hopefully giving the East Midlands a chance of some overnight snow as it moves north.) Looking at the netweather radar, I think it has moved eastwards a bit but whether it has enough 'oomph' (not a genuine meteorological term!) to reach the East Mids, I don't know.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 01/03/2018 16:57

Just had texts from both DC's schools, closed tomorrow too and still coming down in High Peak. The DCs were out earlier for a couple of hours but had to give up their snow-den as it's too bitterly cold for even the hardiest of explorers!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 16:58

Gloria, it is definitely affecting further east than forecast, but I'm not sure if the centre of the low has moved, or whether the affected area has enlarged.
