Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

It looked beautiful but it is brutal out there. It’s open fields and feel like the skin is being flayed off your face.

I’ve just been back down in a 4x4 to get the car out. The police were there as were another 2 abandoned cars. They said to leave it and go home, they’ve closed the road now. Snow drifts are huge

turnipfarmers · 01/03/2018 14:49

London Air Ambulance clearing the snow - it's impressive to see such skills in action.

Fontella · 01/03/2018 14:49

Anyone in Sussex/Kent border? We’ve been forecast heavy snow all day..... it snowed briefly about 7am but that’s it. BbC showing heavy snow now but nothing... met office show nothing but they haven’t been that reliable for us here. I don’t know who to trust!

I'm in Sussex llmb and not so much as snowflake here as yet. We too were forecast heavy snow and strong winds with a yellow warning in place on both the BBC and Met Office websites. We had no snow yesterday, no snow today, no winds and it's not even as cold as it was. It's just a grey murky day but that's it, Forecast is definitely off for us.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 14:50

Emma is extending further East than the forecasts this morning.

A little bit more snow here now, but not loads yet. Just beginning to settle and the birds are at the feeders stocking up on fat and seeds.

Good God turnip that took my breath away!

ItsNachoCheese · 01/03/2018 14:54

Alloa right in middle of the red warning that was issued, there is at least a foot of snow now and its still snowing yet 😭. I braved going to the coop along from me a 10min trip there and back took about half an hour

HelenaDove · 01/03/2018 14:55

Hair appointment went ahead Smile the hardest thing was walking to the bus stop around the corner from my flat. a three minute walk took ten minutes Once i got into town the council had pretty much gritted quite a few places. What was lethal was the floor in the entrance to Tesco because it was so wet where water had been traipsed in. They kept mopping it up but couldnt keep up with it so blocked that entrance off. Big flakes this morning and a few more light flurries this afternoon.

vintagechick43 · 01/03/2018 14:55

It's been snowing here all day I'm Warwickshire but it is so fine and powdery that the wind is blowing it all over the place.
All schools still open, we've had an email from head teacher saying that we are not due much so school will be open tomorrow. I'm really hoping he has got it wrong!!!

MorvahRising · 01/03/2018 14:57

OYBBK I just looked at Meteoradar (thanks for the tip, great site) and it certainly looks as though it’s showing further east than earlier. In fact here in Surrey the snow is getting a bit heavier . . . . .

Honestly, I have hardly done any work today. This weather thing is a serious distraction! Especially as I work from home and it’s easier to get distracted!

stubbornstains · 01/03/2018 15:02

It can't be long fuzzycustard, it can't be!

It's blizzarding again here west of Falmouth....the pantomime that DS1 is taking part in has been cancelled for this evening Sad. They waited for the longest time to cancel....wild optimism in the face of clearly impossible weather conditions, and an ominous forecast. Hopefully it will be on again tomorrow, as it's forecast to warm up a bit and turn into rain from tonight.

Are you in Falmouth gertrude? I didn't realise the amber warning extended that far west.

In other news, I am getting so fucking pissed off with having a toddler in this snow. I want to be adventuring and sledging with the 8 year old, but instead am having to farm him out to his friends' parents, as the 2 year old has yet another screaming meltdown and demands to go back home again....Sad.

llmb · 01/03/2018 15:03

fontella wierd isn’t it. We had about half a foot Tuesday, sun yesterday that melted it a bit but created sheet ice, today such a strange day and bitter cold. Just watched bbc weather and they say we are due snow tomorrow but the bbc app says maybe the odd flake Grin

Jenasaurus · 01/03/2018 15:03

Strange morning. My friend/colleague gives me a lift into work most days and last night told me she would be along at the usual time to pick me up this morning, the time came and went, I messaged her but didn't hear anything, and I was a little worried as its not like her, I contacted work and told them I would be a little late as my lift hadn't showed up and I was going to get a bus. The bus wasn't running from my road due to the weather so I went back to my flat to get a scarf (longer walk in the cold) when I got back, my son said he would give me a lift. I got in his car, his car didn't start....so I again walked back to the bus stop and was feeling cold and sorry for myself, noticed the electronic sign said 16 mins to next bus, (and I forgot my scarf), realised I would be 30 mins late for an important meeting, then a 4by4 drove past, and then reversed a kindly looking man of advancing years peered out, he wound down his window and said "i couldn't drive past a woman looking so cold and sad, without stopping to offer her a lift" he asked me where I was going and I told him, he then gave me a lift all the way in to my office, he refused to take any money. He introduced himself and told me he had taken his daughter to work and was on his way back home when he spotted me. I know some people may think accepting a lift from a stranger is dangerous but I think he was my angel, what a lovely man....sorry I have rambled but he made my day

Jenasaurus · 01/03/2018 15:04

and my friend later told me her daughters school was closed, and she forgot to tell me, missed that out of my message

Riverside2 · 01/03/2018 15:05

@Jenasaurus, OMD I can't believe you did that.

oh well.

HemanOrSheRa · 01/03/2018 15:09

Eurgh! It's snowing again in Bristol. Very fine, powdery stuff and lots of it, being blown around in the brisk wind.

I can remember getting caught in freezing rain many years ago. I was on call for the weekend. I work with Elderly people and we answer out of hours emergency calls. I got an early morning call on the Saturday morning - all fine. When I came out of the building it was DREADFUL Sad. Lots of people got caught thinking they were doing the right thing by going out early for shopping, papers etc. There were people falling over in the streets, door locks freezing up so they were trapped outside. It was really quite scary Sad.

Jenasaurus · 01/03/2018 15:10

I know what you mean Riverside and if it was my daughter I wouldn't have been pleased but I am 53 and he was about 80 and I felt he was a genuinely nice man and no threat, but I wouldnt advocate accepting lifts from strangers. I suppose I was so cold I had got past that stage of rational thinking :)

Delatron · 01/03/2018 15:11

Interesting if it's showing further east. We are in a yellow warning area (Bucks) very fine snow that just seems to be swirling around and not really settling much. We have a covering underfoot but only about half a centimeter. We were on the edge of the amber to the west of us. Interesting to see how it all pans out. Seems the forecasts have our snow at 50:50! Helpful!

Swifey · 01/03/2018 15:12

It's pretty steady here in north Wilts. DS1 has scarlet fever and is on his 5th day of antibiotics, but it looks like DS2 is going down with it now so I've got to drive into town to take him to the dr. Luckily I have a 4x4 so should be fine. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 15:12

That's lovely Jenasaurus, rescued in the end!

I'm getting a bit concerned by people mentioning rain, this isn't a good thing!

One of my cats has vanished :(

I HAVE SNOW!!!

Snow watch part 4 - March is supposed to be spring right?
stubbornstains · 01/03/2018 15:21

I'm not that worried about the rain forecast here OYBBK, mostly because it's forecast to turn from snow through sleet to rain about 9.00- midnight, and the temperature to rise slowly to 3- 6 degrees by morning. So my thinking is, even if it's freezing rain, it should be normal boring rain by the time anybody's ready to go anywhere in the morning Smile.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 15:22

I found her! She had followed dh into the loft then fallen asleep.

Jenasaurus · 01/03/2018 15:23

No rain is not good OYBBK, it makes everything so much more dangerous.

So sorry to hear about your cat vanishing, does he have any little hiding places that you can check? My friends was always under the car when he vanished :(

Jenasaurus · 01/03/2018 15:25

awe bless her, glad she is found and safe
