Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

Unforrunately my dd can't have days off as she is in the care industry. She has to work no matter what.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 10:21

Well I made it here. Epic voyage. Buses not very well this morning.
Can't get to forecast stuff to update people though.

youarenotkiddingme - thanks for letting me know.
I was up 4 til 5 with the youngest and could "see" the wind gusts and what I thought was frost on the pavement, so I think we probably did have the lightest ever dusting.
I think you're right about not counting on lunchtime either now.
Middle DC has an appointment at WM hospital at midday, so I was really hoping for a complete white-out or definete rain, so I don't get caught out once I've driven away from home- the uncertainty is so annoying!

thekingfisher · 01/03/2018 10:22

we've had persistent light snow for the last 3 hours in south suffolk and now increasing wind makes it look very inhospitable out there. Entirely contradictory weather forecasts currently so not a scooby too whats going on....

CointreauVersial · 01/03/2018 10:25

Booo....just a rubbish amount of snow in Surrey generally.

Enough to make it inconvenient, but not nearly enough to enjoy. No snowy walks or sledging. I was outside in my PJs and wellies in -5 degrees this morning to defrost the condensate pipe on our boiler; that was the most excitement this weather has brought me so far.

I swear central London got more than us, and we're on the top of a hill.

usedtobeboss · 01/03/2018 10:28

South Suffolk here too. Been snowing for a couple of hours (which i'm not sure was really forecast...) on top of yesterday's 4-5 inches - and drifting badly too, even on main-ish roads. Forecasts are all different!

Idobelieveinfairies2018 · 01/03/2018 10:30

@gloria thanks for those links. It seems we won't go amber until 2pm now which is something.
My dh is a cleaner so no colleagues and no money for a hotel unfortunately. I'm wondering if a homeless shelter would take him for the night?
Dh has text boss to say is he going to get picked up if the buses get cancelled, no reply as yet.
Dh shift is slightly flexible so dh is planning on leaving in 10mins so he can leave work early hopefully.
Going to be very anxious day I think

West Leeds here. Looks like we've just been upgraded to amber warning, which doesn't surprise me as we have 20cm drifting to 40cm! Was amazed we were only in yellow up to now. As I'm lucky enough to be at home with supplies of food, wine and logs (thanks to OYBBK and Gloria!) I'm thoroughly enjoying it!

whatalifethisis · 01/03/2018 10:47

thanks Bishop i think he must have misheard

whyhastherumgone · 01/03/2018 10:49

Essex here (easterly) - been snowing all morning, quite heavily, now starting to slow a little. Good inch on top of what we already had, which was frozen over night so a real delight to walk on this morning!
Luckily the gritters seem to have done a good job in our area so main roads and pathways seem to be pretty clear, although it's still coming down.
Wonder if it's going to peter out a bit now, although both BBC and Met Office are saying heavy snow this afternoon - I don't have any faith in them anymore though! :)

Hope everyone who needs to travel gets there safely, it's pretty grim out there.

GloriaSmud · 01/03/2018 10:50

Idobelieve ~ hopefully starting and leaving earlier will help. If anything (and it was on Radio 4's PM last night) buses are one of the main things that keep routes open so hopefully your DH can get home before the worst of the weather for your area comes along.

hoochymama1 · 01/03/2018 10:53

Mm, Ibelieve, DD got two buses this am in snowy Rotherham. They tend to keep going when all else fails

PortiaCastis · 01/03/2018 10:55

Lots if snow here on the Lizard schools closed roads diabolical and folk with 4x4s are taking hospital staff in to work

Perihelion · 01/03/2018 10:59

Hard to tell how much snow we've had due to drifting. Have measured between 12 - 35cm around the house.
Currently 0C sunny, snowing and windy all at the same time.

Perihelion · 01/03/2018 11:36

Edinburgh schools will be shut again tomorrow.

GrouchyKiwi · 01/03/2018 11:38

This was our back door this morning. It looks lovely around where we live but I am rapidly becoming disenchanted with snow.

South Midlands here - it’s been snowing nonstop since I woke up at 6am yet it’s not settling, roads are clear, I can still see grass in my garden, yet fb is full off messages saying schools are closing at lunchtime Confused Met Office shows light snow at 5pm Confused

coffeeagogo · 01/03/2018 11:46

West London calling - so DDs primary was the only one open today locally , so we slipped and slid just over a mile up the bloody hill to get to school and it was freezing, dropped the kids and trudged back, then just got a text saying oh hardly anyone came in today we are closing tomorrow!! FFS!

Tomorrow looks ok for London i think? So do the school know something I don't?

blueskyinmarch · 01/03/2018 11:46

My DH has been stuck in Edinburgh since Tuesday. He really wants to get home to St Andrews today if he can. Can anyone give me updates on the roads coming across the bridge then coming off at Dunfermline onto the A92 to Glenrothes then the A914 to Cupar and on to St Andrews? It is a complete whiteout here and i am not sure he should be attempting this in a Golf!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 11:50

ok, we are clear of the first band of snow in the south (unless you are still under it iyswim) the second, more severe one is about to hit the SW, predominantly west of the IOW.

ClashCityRocker · 01/03/2018 11:51

Hmm just got a notification that york is now Amber.... Doesn't look like much more forecast though.

We've had a fair whack. It's also very windy, not snowing atm but looks like it might do again.

We were in London yesterday due to travel back up but managed to get an earlier train back.... Thank god, as our later train was cancelled.

Riverside2 · 01/03/2018 11:52

this is all getting way too technical for me.

essentially snow in London and Essex today and tomorrow? And then relief at the weekend?

WreckTangled · 01/03/2018 11:53

Does that mean I'm not going to get anymore OYBBK? Sad Sussex/Surrey border midhurst are ish
