Usual disclaimer - Gloria and I are amateurs, fitting this in round our home and work lives. We do our best, we sometimes get things wrong! Please don't make important decisions based on what we say, always refer to the met office website first.

Gttia thank you that's really helpful as reports are conflicting. Much better to have it from the horse's mouth (not implying you are a horse!)

My concern is for later in the day so I might ask staff to make all visits shorter so that at least we can get round to everyone even if only briefly

RED WARNING ISSUED FOR DEVON. Just now.

howyalikedemapples · 01/03/2018 08:18

OYBBK, we are in the Scottish Borders and have apocalyptic levels of snow! Our problem is we live two and half miles off road so this snow won’t go until we get a thaw, is there any signs of it warming up? Please say yes! Thanks

Wingbing · 01/03/2018 08:19

RED warning for Devon? Crikey, this never happens in Devon!

I live on Haldon Hill so I will be stuck here at some point.

DartmoorDoughnut · 01/03/2018 08:20

Hi Wingbing! You’re just down the road from me!

Oogle · 01/03/2018 08:20

DC pre-school is open but we've been warned to expect a phone call around lunchtime. There is one school open in the area, it seems daft as the roads are clear and there's barely a mm but it is snowing and the wind is strong.

We're in work but keeping an eye on the situation.

HemanOrSheRa · 01/03/2018 08:21

I don't get to say this very often - IT IS SNOWING IN BRISTOL ShockGrin.

Oogle · 01/03/2018 08:23

Ah that school has now closed too. That school is on the same road as my DCs pre-school. I can't understand why one is open and one is closed Grin

YearOfYouRemember · 01/03/2018 08:25

Red warning for England just announced.

Snowing in Kent.

Kids schools closed again. Dh gone to work.

Wingbing · 01/03/2018 08:26

Hi Dartmoor! I will continue to update on the situation. This is what the bottom of Haldon Hill looks like now

The amber warning that was in place over my part has been cancelled (well shifted eastwards), no idea whether we will get any snow, not something that happens here much. It is bitingly cold though!

Howyoualldoworkme · 01/03/2018 08:37

Exercisejunkieforlife I'm in Waterlooville as well, slight dusting but nothing more. I see the Amber warning has been moved further west this morning so we might be lucky and miss the worst.
Will send out a minion to get some milk if it's not all been panic bought Grin
So glad I'm retired now and don't have to stand about at the bus stop

Still waiting for our bins to be collected from Tuesday!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/03/2018 08:37

I think the traffic has just said there’s issues on Haldon Hill already, wing. How is it looking in Exeter?

I think it’s the amber warning that’s active from midday Met office website was saying 60-70% chance of snow from early this morning last night. Although it was changing a lot.

MrSlant · 01/03/2018 08:38

Oh OYBBK you have your very own snow. So happy for you

I think I'm going to get out with my measuring stick later and do some sciencing and make Parked Car Roof Index a proper measurement of snow. I'm sure I could get something going with that.

It's just struck me that as a slave to netweathers animated radar that for the first time I've not been watching precipitation coming towards us from Ireland, yesterday's snow came down from the NE. No wonder it's brrrrr. And yes, the whole 'beast from the East' should have been a clue there.

lubeybooby · 01/03/2018 08:38

pic of the new red warning area, very much southwest and parts of South Wales

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2018 08:39

The red warning is absolutely no surprise at all.

I have to try and get out to my appointment this morning. If you don't see me by lunchtime send out a St Bernard's please.

I'm sulking now because they stole my amber warning away.

IrenetheQuaint · 01/03/2018 08:43

Light snow in London, like yesterday. Because it's not melting at all it actually adds up to significant accumulations (well, an inch or so) over the course of a day.

Exercisejunkieforlife · 01/03/2018 08:44

Howyoualldoworkme - wow small world, I live in lovedean on a hill I hate driving in it but if it doesn’t get worse then I will for the school run as it 30 mins walk away . I work in Chichester though in the evening so don’t think I will be risking it mainly because of the risk of ice.

I had also noticed the amber warning had shifted and the worst should miss us, not sure if I’m disappointed or happy about that 😂.

MachineBee · 01/03/2018 08:48

Northern East Sussex - schools staying closed in our village. Some snow melt in places yesterday so now we have snow on ice. The roads and paths are lethal. Trains very badly dusrupted - we’re Southeastern on the Hastings line. None of them seem to be able to get to London - they’re only reaching Tonbridge and turning round.

youarenotkiddingme · 01/03/2018 08:49

Oogle we may well be neighbours after all! Grin.**
