We're under an amber warning for tomorrow in South Yorkshire but when I look on the met office hourly it just says light snow from 5am so not sure how much we will get makes planning rather difficult!

Delatron · 26/02/2018 17:18

It does make planning so difficult. My parents are due to travel down from Yorkshire to South East this Friday. Which looks like it's a heavy snow day. I guess we'll play it by ear but would hate for them to set off and get stuck.

StrumpersPlunkett · 26/02/2018 17:20

Cambridge checking in ... intermittent snow showers.
But settling but not much.

Delatron Slightly off topic but here's story about my DParents and DDog (dacshie) coming to see me and xDP in Northants must have been late 1970s. They left for home in Plymouth Saturday mid morning driving a small Renault and I went to work. All day I was worried about them for no apparent reason and when I got home I asked xDP if they had 'phoned but apparently not. I was watching a TV programme which was finishing and the news was next when xDP came in and said there was programme on the other side I liked to watch and switched it over for me. Unusually attentive I thought but didn't twig.
Well they called at about 9pm and the M5 had experienced a massive snowfall that just about closed it, they only got through because my DF got behind a lorry and stayed doggedly in its wake whilst to their horror they drove past people stuck fast on the motorway in freezing temperatures. My DM was angry at him because when they got within about 200 yards of home DF decided he needed to go to the off licence and due to the snow it took them another hour to get home.

accuweather now telling me it will stop snowing in 5 minutes. which seems unlikely as the sky has actually now clouded over and it's started snowing....

so, accuweather just as useless as BBC on this occasion.

Springiscoming123 · 26/02/2018 17:53

marking snowless place

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 26/02/2018 17:57

Marking place !!! Thought I'd lost you all. Transport links suspended from 12pm tonight, and currently in the middle of a blizzard !!!

ClosDesMouches · 26/02/2018 18:01

Where are you whywont ?

lubeybooby · 26/02/2018 18:02

Hasn't got above freezing here all day (south Shropshire hills) also snowed lightly and prettily all day but blew away and no settling. Brr

Looks like possible 'proper' snow Wednesday and Friday for us

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 18:04

I'm back briefly. stupid work interfering with more interesting things!!

12z gfs pushes back thursday's low back mostly to friday but has a huge area of freezing rain. It's really at odds with the met office forecast.

Im not surprised that the northern amber warnings have moved further north. They look in the right position for the forecasts at present.

hi Kitten

yes, my work's been getting in the way of MN too Grin

ClashCityRocker · 26/02/2018 18:09

Ugh gotta get a train from York to London tomorrow - its gonna be a nightmare isnt it?

DazzlingMilton · 26/02/2018 18:09

Mumsnut east surrey is now just inside the amber warning for tomorrow, it is however on the edge of both that and the yellow so I guess the chances are anything between lots and nothing!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 18:10

Grin how inconsiderate of it!!

train disruptions

I hesitate to say this, but at the moment I think that some of these are an over reaction. It must because networks are so crowded there is little leeway for disruption. But I've travelled on trains going through proper heavy snow that has bought roads to a standstill and the trains have been fine. And I'm definitely one for defending caution in poor weather.

I’m freelance and work from home and have been very distracted today!

MimsyBorogroves · 26/02/2018 18:13

This morning, Hull was predicted a 90% chance of snow overnight for tonight.

It's now down to 50. I want snow!

IrenetheQuaint · 26/02/2018 18:13

Just heard an amusing announcement on the Southern network saying rather grudgingly that services had not been affected by the weather!

hoochymama1 · 26/02/2018 18:14

Thanks Magi

Hope your ok Whywont Grin

Esmee how about giving the ward a ring and asking them what they advise?

Oo I'm so excited..

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 18:16

My app now says no snow until 6am Confused. Dd has already been moaning about how horrible I am that I won't drive her to school. Apparently I don't know how awful it is to walk a mile to the bus stop.

fortyfourfeasts · 26/02/2018 18:20

Checking in from Derbyshire. All forecasts seem to say light snow for tomorrow. I'm still worried about the impact it will have and whether we'll get home safely.

MedicinalGin · 26/02/2018 18:23

Look at our weird snow in north Yorks! It’s not laying in any significant way yet, but very crystally, like in Frozen!

I'm not very hopeful. The city I live in is often called a glass dome.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2018 18:28

pretty Medicinal :)
when I get chance I'll try and dig out a link about the different snow crystal shapes.

Tonight I've heard rumblings about convection.... should be interesting where I am from about 9pm onwards! So excited.
