Snow watch part 3 Feb/March 2018

I thought we were in the quiet zone today (bucks) but it's coming down heavily now and I see BBC are now saying heavy snow. All the forecasts are different! I'm cross referencing 4 at the moment. OYBBC and Gloria are the best. I just keep coming back for the best summary! Thanks guys.

scurryfunge · 28/02/2018 13:19

Jung, Snowdon is due for -12 overnight with gales. Hope he’s got his mittens.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 13:19

Jungfrau, light snow tomorrow, might turn heavier though and as TheSacredCow says the roads are getting difficult with more snow forecast today too.
BUT windchill is a real issue. In the valleys it looks to gust to 30mph with a wind chill of -12. On higher ground the wind speed will be much stronger and windchill will be really severe. Who is leading the group?

TheSacredCow Grin are you hoping to get snowed in with blizzards? if so, swing by mine, I'll bring the beer (ditch your dh) and I'll come with you for what sounds to be quite an adventure.

Children (and me!) desperate for some snow down here in Portsmouth.
Websites all saying different timings/ amounts-
OYBBK any ideas when or if we'll see any of the white stuff please?

Jungfraujoch · 28/02/2018 13:25

Thanks OYBBK! It’s an A level Geography trip. They have contingencies - mainly not spending much time outside! Think they’ll be more classroom based. Staying here www.field-studies-council.org/centres/rhydycreuau.aspx. Said they will be guided by the Centre.

Christmas 2010 I don't think I knew about OYBBK, more's the pity! We travelled from North Bucks to Cornwall for a family Christmas - end to end was a snow covered landscape.

On 22/12 we had a sudden snowfest at home (we were already under inches of snow). I had to go out in the car but fell and smacked my knee v hard on ice in the road (oh how I cried, and swore lots too). 3 miles up the road my parents had much less of the dumping and another mile after that there was nothing different to the day before.

We got to Cornwall 23/12 but couldn't get up the hill to the holiday farmhouse; other routes the owners took us to were a disaster. We ended up in a hotel and on 24/12 thankfully made it via a back route; we had the turkey hence we'd have driven back to Bucks if we failed....! A proper white Christmas sledging in the fields. Killer hill wasn't passable until 28/12. My knee still suffers.

I'm soooo glad we have OYBBK and Gloria 💫

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 13:28

They'll be fine then JungFrau, an adventure!

Indeed OYBBK! Albeit a cold one! Now Im waiting to
see what we get here in Dorset near Bournemouth! Few flurries so far but windy!

pigsinmud · 28/02/2018 13:33

OYBBK - any ideas for central Surrey? I'm so jealous of my brother in NE Kent. He keeps sending me photos of his snow!

KittyConCarne · 28/02/2018 13:35

Thanks OYBBK - tomorrow would be great!
DP won't let me get the sledge out of the shed just in case I jinx it happening!

Cumberlover76 · 28/02/2018 13:35

On the edge of Dartmoor, near Tavistock, and we have had barely a sprinkle. Plymouth about 10 miles away is at a standstill. Hopefully we will see some tomorrow, DD would love a snow day for her birthday.

PointlessUsername · 28/02/2018 13:36

Really shocked at how much we have had in London today. Wasnt expecting it.

How is London looking for tomorrow? OYBBk.

STARE2016 · 28/02/2018 13:37

Really loving this thread - thank you OYBK and Gloria. Supposed to be going to the theatre tonight in North West Kent - starts at 7ish, finishes at 10ish. Any thoughts please? Forecasts are saying so many different things! Currently bright skies and snow is melting but it's super slippery in places.

Thank you again!

summersgoneaway · 28/02/2018 13:46

Dh is meant to be flying sat for skiing

Namelesswonder · 28/02/2018 13:48

Blizzard in Edinburgh just now and the red warning isn’t supposed to start till 3pm. DH stranded in London (been there since Monday, due home tonight) all flights to Edinburgh cancelled.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 13:48

Pointless - you may see some snow tomorrow too through the day. gusting to around 40mph too, so it will feel blizzards in any snow showers.

Stare - I think you'll be ok snow wise tonight, but super icy!

schilke - it's likely you'll see some snow through tomorrow.

All of the eastern side of the south tomorrow does depend on where exactly the developing low to the sw ends up.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 13:49

argh Nameless! What a pain. does your dh have a plan?

OP posts:
Namelesswonder · 28/02/2018 13:51

Thanks OYBBK, hoping to find a hotel!

MrsKCastle · 28/02/2018 13:52

Yes, thanks Kitten and Gloria. Really helpful! We're on a snow day here in Essex and likely to be off again tomorrow I expect. My DH is hoping to be travelling home from the NE on Friday but is currently snowed in and sitting in the middle of Amber warning today and yellow Thu and Fri. Fingers crossed that he can get home.

pigsinmud · 28/02/2018 13:53

Thanks OYBBK. Hope you get some snow too!

TheSacredCow · 28/02/2018 13:54

Thank you OYBBK, yes, just want to get away safely to a cosy hotel and don't care what happens after that!

gleegeek · 28/02/2018 13:55

Thank you OYBBK - will try to persuade dh it's not a good idea! Still a beautiful but icy day here.
