Just starting here in Cheshire but very lightly for now.

Oogle · 28/02/2018 12:04

OYBBK is the south due to get battered tomorrow? I'm near Southampton

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 12:07

oogle, please don't use metcheck for snow forecasts. The gfs model which it uses is struggling with tomorrow.
Steady snow looks quite likely throughout tomorrow in the southampton area and given the gales and windchill of around -10c at lunchtime tomorrow, I'd err on the side of caution. As you are in the amber area you can quite legitimately quote the met office.

My dd is in Edinburgh and not excited about the red warning. She is no child of mine..........

Riverside2 · 28/02/2018 12:08

@Grouchykiwi
"The baby was very unimpressed and kept calling it "yucky".

I like your baby Grin

Oogle · 28/02/2018 12:08

Ah poo. Ok. Hopefully metoffice will update for me soon (can't see an update since 9am and can't load detailed forecast) but will try to convince DH that we need to close.

SnowiestMountain · 28/02/2018 12:10

Ooh much more snow in Cheshire now!

blueskyinmarch · 28/02/2018 12:10

Just seen the red warning for central Scotland. Eek! My DH has chosen to be snowed in at work in Edinburgh rather than at home in fife. He is such a weirdo!

Misty9 · 28/02/2018 12:11

Just been out in here in norwich and I've never seen snow this deep! A foot or more has fallen and it's still snowing. Sledging was brilliant Grin but I'd definitely stay off the roads if you can.

justforthisthread101 · 28/02/2018 12:16

South East London has blue skies despite Hyde Park a mere 9 miles away getting a hammering. Is it going to miss us?

justforthisthread101 · 28/02/2018 12:18

anyone else uneducated in matters meteorological and just relying on OYBBK rather than anything else by the way?

I've been doing so with fierce loyalty since early 2014!

alwaysontimeneverlate · 28/02/2018 12:18

Hi

Does anyone in the know have any ideas for tomorrow in North Yorkshire/co Durham? I couldn't get into work today and they are less than impressed, but no taxis or buses and I don't have the skills to drive (only passed my test a few weeks ago).

My iPhone app is constantly changing and I'm not sure how accurate it is.
Thanks

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 12:19

today yes probably will miss you Just, but perhaps more tomorrow.

Nothing here in North Wilts yet, it's deceptively bright and sunny outside Hmm. Forecast puts us slap bang in the middle of an amber zone tomorrow but we shall see... Haven't had any decent snow here since 2010 not that I've been counting.

mrsdolittle · 28/02/2018 12:25

Any idea what we can expect in the Cotswolds tomorrow/Friday OYBBK? Have looked at so many different forecasts that my head hurts!!!

prettythepig · 28/02/2018 12:27

Any idea if West Midlands is going to get anything? We have just a light dusting and I'm jealous Sad

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 28/02/2018 12:27

I'm wondering about Cotswolds too, Cheltenham way down to Oxford. It looks like it's just on the edge of the amber area

stubbornstains · 28/02/2018 12:34

Well, that was a mental couple of hours. We now have 1-2 inches of snow, more in drifts. An hour after school started, the message went out to come and collect the kids, but it was already all over the roads (ungritted). A friend of mine with a Transporter collected DS1 for me, and got about half a mile from school before getting stuck. Luckily, somebody she knew with a Landrover was passing, and crammed them all in Grin.

But my neighbour, whose kids go to the same school, is still out there. She came back from the nearby town with 2 of her kids, all shaky because they hadn't managed to get back, and despite me begging her to stay and see if we could get someone else to pick them up, charged off to get the other 2. She was last seen slipping and sliding up the hill towards the school. I've messaged her the numbers of the Land Rover people, but no reply Sad.

Another friend and school mum is stranded somewhere between here and the school, but the Land Rover's on its way to get her, apparently.

stubbornstains · 28/02/2018 12:36

Sorry, that's Cornwall ^

imelda3 · 28/02/2018 12:38

I am feeling sorry for OYBBK but she is amazing! What does everyone think is the best forecast - or is that a silly question? Am looking at Accuweather, BBC and the Met office but they’re all different!

Frouby · 28/02/2018 12:39

Dds school closed at lunchtime. We have had steady snow, some heavy since about 8am on already covered ground.

For me they should never have opened. Poor teachers trying to get home in this. Most local schools closed first thing. Hoping they do the sensible thing and don't bother opening tomorrow.

And her school trip was cancelled thankfully. Would have gone and picked her up from there I think rather than risk a school bus.

stubbornstains · 28/02/2018 12:39

Ah, just heard that my neighbour abandoned her car and started walking with the kids (all 4 of them, 1 under 2!), but managed to get hold of one of the 4x4 parents and got rescued. Phew!

Makinglists · 28/02/2018 12:40

Long time lurker here...Plymouth has snow, proper snow! We never have snow down in the City (the last significant fall in 2010). Snow on Dartmoor quite a regular occurrence but not in the City. Thankyou Kitten for all your insights you are a weather gem!

ajandjjmum · 28/02/2018 12:44

OYBBK save our Christmas in 2010. I shall be eternally grateful! Grin

BiddyPop · 28/02/2018 12:44

We've had about 4" overnight, and a few more little flurries again this morning. Schools and work closed (but I'm having to get things done at home while entertaining DD so not on here as much as when in the office Hmm !!).

We popped into 2 supermarkets last night to get juice, and DD had said she'd used a lot of milk so I was going to pick up 1 litre - there was NO bread, NO milk (unless you drink almond milk), NO potatoes or carrots, very reduced meat and other fruit/veg stocks (as in hardly any!) and no firewood. Daft as there was loads on Sunday and it's not like the end of the world is coming. (Apparently, people were buying 8 & 9 loaves of bread each yesterday - I wonder how many of those will still be sitting in freezers next Christmas and be made into breadcrumbs or dumped to make space for Christmas goodies?!).

Can't see UK met office rainfall radar but looks like we will get more later this afternoon judging by Irish met office version. And we've got a new red alert for storm Emma coming tomorrow.

So I will go out for 2 bags of logs (I will run through what I have before the weekend) but otherwise I'm good.
