Good morning from the top of the North Downs, Kent - lots more snow yesterday evening and overnight - brrrr

fredabear · 28/02/2018 06:55

So relieved to hear we have snow days all round for our family of pupils and teachers, it looks treacherous out there - can hardly see out of the windows due to the amount of snow that’s been blasted on to them! Stay safe and warm everyone.

Anyone in Dorking/Leatherhead/Chessington/Kingston who can let me know the snow situation?

Colleague text me and said not to bother as it's awful but sent me a picture which doesn't seem too bad at all...! If it makes a difference, I'm 35 weeks pregnant and have to travel 40 miles 😂

Slartybartfast · 28/02/2018 07:03

Worried about the drive to work, and home again importantly!
no snow forecast but so cold, worried about icey roads.

Snownechanger · 28/02/2018 07:06

Nick, don’t risk it, it’s not worth it, have a snow day x

prettymum · 28/02/2018 07:07

Woke up to snow this morning SE London, dragged kids out of bed to get ready for school, only to find out school closed. I'll be jumping on bus to get to work, live pretty local so no excuse.

NickMyLipple · 28/02/2018 07:07

@snownechanger - I had one yesterday!! And have antenatal appointments tomorrow and Friday so won't be in then either 😂

lljkk · 28/02/2018 07:08

300+ schools closed in Norfolk. Kids are doing jigs! Thank goodness work is slow. Apparently the trains are running even though they were all cancelled yesterday?!

PilarTernera · 28/02/2018 07:09

We had about 4 cm of snow overnight in north London. Glad I don't have to drive anywhere.

Temperature atm -4. I don't remember it ever being this cold here.

Farmerswife36 · 28/02/2018 07:12

Northumberland is treturous. Many schools closed and buses not running

MorvahRising · 28/02/2018 07:12

Surrey here, we’ve had about half an inch overnight which wasn’t forecast. The sun’s coming up now and it looks so pretty. 😮 at the amounts some of you have had!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 07:14

ok stressed people out of the door. Didn't help when I suggested as the alarm went off that everyone would need to leave 20 minutes earlier Grin

Just a dusting here, other areas were hit hard. We are under amber till ten but the skies are clear. No snow day but it's ever so pretty. Looks like the cold will hold for Emma, that could be fun, just need it come a bit further east.

UrsulaPandress · 28/02/2018 07:24

More snow overnight but the roads are surprisingly clear. Although this is normal here.

fortyfourfeasts · 28/02/2018 07:28

About an inch in Derbyshire (Eastern side). Bloody freezing though. Back home this afternoon, was hoping for a snow day in Nottingham tomorrow to recover!! Doesn't look likely?!

Frouby · 28/02/2018 07:36

About an inch here in Rotherham. Am pleased to report that due to a poorly DS and seeing every hour of the night, the met office forecast was spot on.

Am hoping dds school trip is cancelled today. In fact am hoping school is closed. It is half way up quite a steep hill. Roads look clear for now but we are forecast more snow through the day.

Dp set off to work about half an hour ago in his car. Despite me telling him to take mine as it's a 4 x 4. He got to the end of the road and came back for mine. Am not so worried about him now. At least he should be able to get home even if the local roads get a bit lairy.

Looking out the window now at the rapidly falling snow I suspect he will give it a couple of hours then set off back.

PestoSurfissimos · 28/02/2018 07:36

Half of ours had melted off by the end of they day yesterday, but we’ve had another dump overnight. Now back to full coverage Smile

We are high up on the Downs, on the outskirts of Brighton.

UnnecessaryFennel · 28/02/2018 07:37

-8 this morning on Surrey/London borders with a couple of cms of snow overnight. Travelling into work and trains are total chaos, but then again they are most mornings so no surprise there Hmm

RoseDog · 28/02/2018 07:39

All school in Dundee OPEN the bus company tweeted that school bus services wouldn't run but the council decided schools would open so buses are back on there's about 3 inches of snow and more forecast!

Ollivander84 · 28/02/2018 07:42

Minus 5 here, glorious sunshine and a few small snow flurries

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2018 07:43

Ok forecast for today:

early snow showers in the south will die out to give a rather lovely day. Perhaps some will pep up this afternoon though. Southern coastal areas of the SW look pretty snowy.

It's further north that is the issue. Heavy snow moving across the Midlands and NE. The NE in particular could be getting into a bit of a pickle with snow depths.

Tomorrow: It's still problematic! But a band of snow looks to move north from the south giving a prolonged spell of snow. Fascinatingly GFS is still much less keen on this away from the SW than the met office are.

Friday the models still disagree. GFS is fairly keen on a bit of a snow fest across the whole of the south, the met office seem to hold back on this for a while but then giving widespread snow in the south throughout friday afternoon, the evening and into saturday morning.

Saturday looks potentially cold and snowy for many still. Check match fixtures (but the ground will be like iron anyway so it will be a blessing if they get cancelled!)

Ok, I need a cup of tea!!!

London, with snow.

DC miffed as schools open (well, I'm assuming so, as I've checked website and twitter, and have been looking out for email/text and nothing's come through).

Sky is blue, and looks like the snow is ebbing away already.

Is there likely to be more in London between now and the weekend? We seem to fringe warning areas (sometimes)
