Bad snow mid day north Kent but now mostly gone apart from the drive! Not sure what's due our way now!

Ollivander84 · 27/02/2018 18:23

Any idea what preston will be like over tonight and the next few days? I'm out doing care work! And freezing

StrumpersPlunkett · 27/02/2018 18:36

OYBBK please can you send me some snow? The little we had had all gone 🙁🙁

GloriaSmud · 27/02/2018 18:40

Ollivander ~ wrap up as it's going to be well below freezing, especially at night but also during the day e.g -1C/0C. Could be the occasional snow shower as well.

-2.5C already here (Leicester) Shock

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 27/02/2018 18:44

Seems much, much colder tonight compared to last night, seeing some heavy clouds roll in.

dementedma · 27/02/2018 18:48

quite heavy snow now in Eastern Scotland. think it's going to be a work from home day tomorrow at this rate

Ollivander84 · 27/02/2018 18:59

Thanks Gloria Smile
Minus 1 here at the minute

UtahGirl12 · 27/02/2018 19:03

Bratsandtwats · 27/02/2018 19:04

Minus 2 here in South Staffs/Shropshire border.

BestIsWest · 27/02/2018 19:11

Ha Utah you and me both. Amber warning for us at the moment but I fear Cardiff will get the best of it. What’s new?

youarenotkiddingme · 27/02/2018 19:20

Koosh I'm only about 20 miles south! We had lots fall but it only laid in places and not even 1cm! We are due s dump Thursday (hopefully!)

Belindabelle · 27/02/2018 19:22

All schools in Falkirk (Central Region) area are closed tomorrow on the advice of Scottish Government. In the 20 years I have been a parent they have never taken the decision to close schools the night before. I think they normally leave the decision to the individual Heads.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2018 19:24

-6c here already Shock

Hi Gloria and OYBBK, thanks for all the updates. I have a couple of questions, which direction is the weather moving at the moment? I was surprised none of the snow made it over to us last night (SW edge of London) and was following the showers on the rainfall radar but they seemed to be hitting the U.K. from the east then moving south down the coast rather than continuing west.

Secondly, i May have misunderstood but basically is there a high pressure system to the south of us which is trying to push the cold air further north come the weekend... bringing with it rain that will turn to snow / freezing rain as it meets the cold air and moves up the country but with respite from the bitter cold behind it? Is it definite this will happen or a chance the cold air will stay over us longer? Which system will win the battle for the U.K.?!

I would love proper snow but according to weather warnings we seem to be too far west to get the showers from the east and too far east to get the showers from the south Sad

Thank you

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 27/02/2018 19:44

Oybbk the Thursday/Friday amber warning seems to have moved away from SE (Kent). Do you think it might adjust itself back into the Kent area or have we had the worst now?

Snow today and have about 12 cm. the car is snowed in the drive and dreading having to dig a path for it to get to work in the morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2018 19:52

Milton it's a low pressure system developing to the south, bringing less cold air Friday into Saturday. However the models are really struggling to get a handle on what happens as it reaches our shores.

I think milder will win temporarily in the south by later on Saturday and into Sunday. How far that less cold air will move far north and what happens after is something I just don't know.

Reastie, it's possible you will get more through this week, you are in a yellow area tomorrow.
Thursday Friday there is huge uncertainty. I think it is less likely you will be badly affected, but I'm not going to rule it out.

oh yes Milton, direction, at the moment things are coming in from almost an ENE direction.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2018 19:57

gttia there's a fair bit showing on the radar for the next few hours for you.

kooshbin · 27/02/2018 20:01

you - I bet you get more interesting weather than I do. I'm in the lee of a hill, and often weather seems to go right over the top and misses me altogether. Though, when we get it, frost/snow/ice seems to hang around.

I don't have an outside thermometer or a weather station, so I rely on the nearest online weather station, which is currently reporting -8.8 C.

Gertrudethestag · 27/02/2018 20:08

Really hoping we get loads of snow in Cornwall Smile

Caroian · 27/02/2018 20:10

Snowing heavily again in W Kent. Dark Sky predicted this one to the minute and now aligns exactly with the Met Office. If they stay correct it looks like we'll have quite a bit more overnight - which seems to align with what you are saying too OYBBK

I've become addicted to this thread having only been a lurker for a few days, so thank you all!

Pennina · 27/02/2018 20:11

Still nothing (n. London). I shall disregard weather warnings in future! It literally never snows here. Grrrr! Hmm
