Kent calling................just walked to work in very heavy snow.....overnight heavy snowfall has made our road impassable, some school closures and train disruption...same old chaos...on the plus side the walk in was quite pleasant as I can walk along the river Stour and the exercise has done me good!

WiseOldElephant · 27/02/2018 08:17

Nothing at all in North Surrey/SW London area. DC are gutted, they were so hoping for a snow day!

MrSlant · 27/02/2018 08:18

We have a dusting of the pretty tiny snowflakes of freezing cold weather. The stuff my Canadian cousin tells me can fall for aaaaaages not like it's fluffy show off counterpart the big flouncy flake.

So weird, been following this since the first sign of the SSW, then checking the air pressure at the pole, then discovering there were 8 million other things that would affect the weather and netweather forums never agree for 5 minutes BUT it happened, it is cold, proper cold and snowing. Am I allowed a brief excited smile please OYBBK and Gloria?

BertrandRussell · 27/02/2018 08:20

Ds’s school still open, but fortunately the gritters didn’t make it to out village............Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2018 08:20

Of course MrsSlant, it's fascinating to watch the evolution of interesting weather.

Oh! Snow! East Kent reporting in. This is an epic amount for us, as we're a ten minute walk to the sea. It's coming down fast as well. Village school is still open though!

OYBBK May I have a recommendation of where to look to get an idea of how long it may continue today for us? I'm on shift tonight, but if we get much more and it doesn't thaw I am not getting there.

Hampshire/new forest - not a flake yet. Everything crossed for at least a couple of inches. What are my chances do you think?

ClosDesMouches · 27/02/2018 08:24

Well, as I expected, it's stopped snowing here. So we have about 3cm which will stay on the ground for several days. It will be just like an ice rink when it freezes tonight.

dementedma · 27/02/2018 08:25

light snow here in East Fife at the moment

Gertrudethestag · 27/02/2018 08:28

Beautiful blue skies and cold crisp air here in falmouth today! It could be mistaken for a Summers morning ... until you open the door.

Grin loving the icey air!

We often get let down by the lack of snow so a lot of people are dismissing the weather warnings here. I feel a touch anxious about the thought of anyone driving up and down the A39 in the slightest bit of snow (local lurkers will know what I mean!)

LuxembergerQueen92 · 27/02/2018 08:30

I haven't seen snow like this in Kent for years.....within the space of 10 minutes the main road outside my office has become covered, drivers going about 5 miles an hour.

notsomanky · 27/02/2018 08:31

We now have about 3/4 of an inch of snow. THe kids went off to school very reluctantly and the school buses are all delayed but the schools are open.

The sky brightened and I thought the snow had stopped, buts its still snowing, just very fine flakes. Snow boots and waterproofs for the walk to work!

twinone · 27/02/2018 08:32

East Lancashire - 48 schools closed, including mine Smile. My dd's schools are both open though.
I am very rural and 1000ft above sea level, we have about 7cm at the moment.

MorvahRising · 27/02/2018 08:33

Surrey here and not a sign of a flake in spite of the fact that we have an amber warning! In fact the sun is out. Very jealous of all the lovely snow pics!

SparklyMagpie · 27/02/2018 08:33

Well the snow got lighter and stopped here near stockport for a short while but it's started picking up again. 2yo DS carrying his coat around everywhere wanting to go outside

Not until I've had another brew Grin

FoodSchmood · 27/02/2018 08:37

We finally got our snow in Hove! Woke up to a decent covering, then some really quite heavy snow! It's (briefly) stopped and the sun even came out. Clouding over again now and we can see the next band of dark clouds rapidly approaching... Very happy in the Schmood house this morning!

Cambrian coast, still snowing and most schools closed. Doesnt happen very often here

BiddyPop · 27/02/2018 08:42

We had a few decent flurries yesterday I. Dublin but nothing stuck. Temp gauge on car was 2.5 degrees this morning but there's significant windchill at play! Met Eireann rainfall radar seems to show lots of snow just south of us in Wicklow, but the warning s are that we'll get plenty later.

goingcrazymakingadecision · 27/02/2018 08:42

I'm having a huge dilemma. Meant to be traveling from Harrogate to Edinburgh today (back on Thursday). We're in the amber weather warning zone today, and Edinburgh is in the amber alert for Wednesday & Thursday. Would it be crazy to travel? It's our anniversary, I want to go, but I don't want to be one of those people you see on the news, stranded on the A1 Shock

Mumsnut · 27/02/2018 08:45

East Surrey - would it be helpful if we all started our posts with our location, like this?

(Or maybe, you seasoned Weather Watchers know each other well enough not to need that!)

gethintheway · 27/02/2018 08:46

Beautiful snow here on the Wirral, toes are frozen though haha

Frazzled2207 · 27/02/2018 08:46

A sprinkling in south Stockport but only 2-3 inches. Not enough to close schools or barely to make a snowman. Has stopped now.

icantdothis2017 · 27/02/2018 08:48

Dreading it turning to ice :'(

Sandsnake · 27/02/2018 08:49

Congrats to all the Kent / Sussex folk who’ve been hit - looks beautiful! Nothing here in South West Surrey, which I was expecting given the radars but nevertheless I had fevered snow dreams all night... Beautiful, freezing morning here and on my commute into central London. Thursday / Friday is still looking pretty good for us so putting my hope in that. I bought a sledge at the beginning of last week to widespread mirth so I need to get my revenge!
