Snowing in Bucks. It won't settle but I didn't think we were forecast any here so haven't been paying attention!

starrysights · 06/02/2018 22:25

Does anyone know from the forecasts when it’s going to start warming up a bit? So night time is 5 degrees instead of -2 and daytime is 10 instead of 5?!

nannynick · 06/02/2018 22:46

Snow on Sunday 11 Feb afternoon/evening showing on Metcheck GFS... any other models showing that snow? Could make Monday morning commute fun! Will probably change in the next run... lets see what happens.

FoodSchmood · 07/02/2018 07:56

Snow in hove!! Only a light dusting, but it's the most we've had all winter! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2018 08:15

starry it looks a little warmer this weekend. Apart from that, there's no real prospects for a warm up for the next two weeks at the moment.

nannynick ~ think away from Scotland, it's looking a bit marginal. Western/northern bits, especially over high ground could see snow Sunday evening/overnight but it's probably too warm in the south/SE for anything wintry.

TheWeatherOutlook mentions an SSW in the 2nd half of February. Things might get very cold.....

Your roving west Wales correspondent signing in after a glorious morning messing about outside to say SNOW! Grin Grin Grin

I'm very jealous Mr !!! An absolutely pathetic amount here this morning. It might as well not have bothered !!!!

GloriaSmud · 08/02/2018 10:19

Excellent stuff, Mr Slant.
Think some people might end up with some wintry stuff through tomorrow morning, after a band of rain clears south-eastwards tonight.

And the metoffice have updated weather warnings.

brizzledrizzle · 08/02/2018 19:52

What is a polar vortex please?

I saw it mentioned and that it usually brings very cold weather but assumed it might be the media trying to sell more papers exaggerating--

GloriaSmud · 08/02/2018 20:18

brizzledrizzle ~ you might want to watch which the metoffice released yesterday. The first half gives a 10 day forecast but from the middle to the end, it explains about the polar vortex and Sudden Stratospheric Warming (which is what sometimes brings us very cold weather.)

brizzledrizzle · 08/02/2018 20:24

thank you.

MistyMeadow · 08/02/2018 22:45

Ooh snow risk for NW England seems to have suddenly increased for the morning! 🤞

MistyMeadow · 08/02/2018 22:46

Ha ha! The met office are 12 hours behind you Gloria!

Well apart from heavy rain at 6am this morning and our temperature going up and then down (3.5C atm), not a lot's happened here (Leicester) We've had a slightly sleety shower but that's it and it's looking fairly bright.

notsomanky · 10/02/2018 09:00

Very wet and cold here this morning.

DS1 has two football matches to referee today; they are on astroturf so will go ahead, but his own team is playing tomorrow on grass - I suspect the pitch will be unplayable. Usually he is in a bad mood if it's called off, but this week his cricket club start their winter nets, so if there is no football he can go to that instead of having to miss it.

Off to get supplies for DS2's (12) school residential to Snowdonia. He goes on Monday, and they are camping out probably on Tuesday night. The weather looks interesting.

Then DD has her Baden Powell Camp with guides next weekend in the Lancashire hills!

GloriaSmud · 10/02/2018 09:09

notsomanky ~ camping, at this time of the year?! They're all going to come back ~ Sad < cold face

We're down for heavy snow tomorrow evening which will please DDs greatly!

notsomanky · 10/02/2018 10:37

Yes Gloria!

They did say if it is horrendous they might use some of the wooden bothy style places they have set up on the outer reaches of the property, but they said expect them to be sleeping outdoors!

Still no word of the football tomorrow being cancelled - we are just home after a trip to Stockport for thermal socks, and it is freezing, windy, and heavy rain. And it's my turn to watch DS1 referee for 2 hours.

GloriaSmud · 10/02/2018 12:13

Yikes notsomanky That's hardcore! DD2's doing a Rangers camp at the end of April and even then, they're using Camping pods rather than going under canvas!

Updated weather warnings from today-Monday for several areas of the country.

InMySpareTime · 10/02/2018 15:07

Might be a Manchester thing, DD is camping outdoors in a couple of weeks, with a day's rock climbing too. Her hands will be frozen by the end of that!

notsomanky · 10/02/2018 16:54

It probably is inmysparetime!

Still cold and wet here today, but no call yet to cancel tomorrows football.

GloriaSmud · 10/02/2018 19:21

It's waaaaay ahead into the future but the GFS has this precipitation-type chart for the 19/2, with cold/snow coming in from the east. It possibly could be an effect of the SSW but before anyone gets excited, the ECM doesn't go for this at all and keeps things coming from a westerly direction.
