I really want snow! My kids (3 and 5) have never seen proper snow!

How likely does it look for the north Hampshire and Surrey borders? Met office sayes heavy snow Thursday night, but I don't understand any of the charts!

TieDyedBumhole · 25/02/2018 18:39

I’ve got a very long awaited operation next week and if it’s cancelled or I can’t get to the hospital (30 miles away) I will absolutely cry for a year as will dh and my dc and dm SadAngry

GloriaSmud · 25/02/2018 18:41

Petal ~ DH went to Aldi between 3-4pm this afternoon and said it was busy, so think people are stocking up.

Coughingbean ~ Thursday night/Friday is being a bit difficult to forecast at the moment. I think you could get snow overnight but it might turn to sleet/rain by the morning.

borntobequiet · 25/02/2018 18:53

The only shortages I saw on the shelves in Asda this morning were of red wine.
Not sure what that says about where I live (or about the local Asda).

coughingbean · 25/02/2018 19:01

Thanks gloria it will probably all disappear by Friday morning as I have brought the kids new wellies!

lamettarules · 25/02/2018 19:09

Tiedyed oh no ,that would be terrible .

i'm crossing everything for you .

PrimalLass · 25/02/2018 19:18

My OH is being a dick about my snow worries, so I now hope we are snowed in for days just to prove me right.

Tr1skel1on · 25/02/2018 19:18

We are all set for snow here. The kids have new onesies & I have a copy of The Greatest Showman soundtrack :)

I'm hoping for a snow day

SunnySeaShell · 25/02/2018 19:24

Well, the countryfile weather just now was super exciting!!! Friday ShockShockShock

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 25/02/2018 19:27

Beautiful sunny day in SW London but bloody freezing!

Frouby · 25/02/2018 19:30

I just came in to say the same Sunny. We are in the edges of fuckedness for nost of the week. But thursday into friday sees 2010 type predictions.

Just phoning around my elderly relatives and telling them to stock up a bit. They are all in denial about how bad it could be. Sigh. Dp is laughing at my plans. He obviously won't want any of my war rations if necessary then will he.

Perihelion · 25/02/2018 19:32

Looks like the snow kicks off for Edinburgh and East Coast of Scotland on Tuesday, with Amber warning on Wednesday. How much snow will depend on the dew point and the wind direction......if we get a Forth streamer I may get quite excited Grin. I've pictures from ,2009/2010 of massive black snow clouds rolling up the firth dumping snow.

GUMBYMUMBY · 25/02/2018 19:36

Snow is the very least of my problems... knowing me it'll snow indoors and the boiler will explode.

MummyTheGregor · 25/02/2018 19:38

I love this thread, I'm late to notice the warnings but as soon as I did I thought I wonder if OYBBK still does weather chat on MN and you do!! Joined by Gloria!! Yay!!.... In Harrogate look like on edge of a warning but my geography is a bit rubbish - I get very anxious looking at the various weather forecasts and all the different predictions!

Petalflowers · 25/02/2018 19:48

How often are you looking at weather forecasts? I’m checking it hourly, and it does seem to change. Monday and Tuesday now look a little better. Friday looks worst. Fortunately, dh has decided to cancel trip,to Scotland.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 19:51

I'm back :)
I missed country file, what did they say? They usually doom the snow though when they talk about it.

Been camping with the scouts this weekend - was a little chilly to say the least! Just got home to weather warnings etc so plans on the farm may have to change depending on what we get - it was interesting on the M1 this evening that the overhead gantries round Leicester were warning of severe weather on Tuesday 27th - never seen that before ConfusedShock

SunnySeaShell · 25/02/2018 19:56

Countryfile seemed to show Snowmageddon across the entire country on Friday. They were keener in pointing out just how cold it's going to be midweek, didn't say loads about Friday but the picture looked terrible/amazing depending on your viewpoint!

SunnySeaShell · 25/02/2018 19:57

Sky news bigging up the end of the week now as they would, 'significant disruption' 'power outages' etc

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 19:59

The models are still in violent disagreement about Friday and beyond. The met office are going for a lot of snow starting thursday evening continuing friday. ECM is in agreement. GFS starts off snowy, turns icy then makes things wet in the south followed by milder.

What should I have in/do in preparation for possible power blackouts? Blush Apart from Biscuit and Gin obviously.

Beelzebop · 25/02/2018 20:10

Someone on my Facebook feed has just said it's snowing in Kent. Is it? Seems a bit early to me.

Petalflowers · 25/02/2018 20:15

Justmuddling - apart,from warm clothing, I think,you are covered.

I’m in Kent and not seen any snow yet.

Justmuddlingalong · 25/02/2018 20:19

uksnowmap.com/ I've been watching this. Not much yet, but it's early doors. @Petalflowers, thank you for giving my extreme weather prep the👍.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 25/02/2018 20:23

I haven't been on MN for ages, but had to come back to seek out a thread about snow (I knew there would be one)

Anyway I have a question. Im looking at Netweather and the column where it says precip and is followed by numbers such as 0.25mm or 0.35mm etc. Is that less than 1 millimetre? so 0.25mm is a quarter of a millimetre?

Sorry if I sound dumb, just curious how often I might make it into work this week (North Yorkshire/Co Durham border - rural location) Im not expecting to make it in Wednesday.
