There's a gfs dew point forecast
www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-bin/expertcharts?MODELL=gfs&MODELLTYP=1&VAR=taup&INFO=1

On my phone and it's misbehaving slightly so hope that works.

from the radio looks like lincolnshire and the east are going to get 20cm's over the week.

stubbornstains · 25/02/2018 15:51

HO my God. Cornwall in the middle of every weather warning zone shocker !!!!

We had a snow day a few weeks ago - the first one in 5 years. Luckily, I wasn't due to work, because DS2 wasn't due to go to preschool anyway that day, so could thoroughly enjoy it.

It was a bit embarrassing, because we were on the edge of a localised band of snow and got 3cm, which is pretty much End Of Days down here. DS1's school is about 3 miles west of here, and got far, far less. They stayed open, but only about 10 kids made it in, and I fear they suspect us of exaggerating. But, genuinely, you couldn't get out of the village. We're not on a main road, so not a priority gritting route.

You can hardly believe it today, not a cloud in the sky,I don't believe it's colder than normal for this time of year. It's very calm weather too

gttia ~ it's been lovely here (Leicester) today as well. We've had a cold breeze but it's been nice in the sun. I've even had the washing out and despite the temperatures, it's dried fairly well.

Ratbagcatbag · 25/02/2018 17:12

I realise I've been under a rock this last week and maybe missed most of this! (Or was at Butlins enduring all the kids shows and too tired for news).
I didn't know if once I spotted the news it was just being dramatic but now I've found this thread I'm actually worried.
So if I was in Nottinghamshire, towards Kirkby way which gets gridlocked when the rest of the country is all fine I should probably think about stock piling stuff shouldn't I?

BertrandRussell · 25/02/2018 17:14

My washing froze on the line this morning here in Kent. We were on the beach this afternoon and it was bitter but gorgeous.

ShowOfHands · 25/02/2018 17:16

Every year my 6yo ds asks for snow and he hasn't seen it yet. We're in Norfolk. Could it possibly happen? He'd like to throw a snowball just once.

BestIsWest · 25/02/2018 17:26

Stunning day here in Wales. We went for a walk on the beach this morning and it was gorgeous. There was an icy cold wind but it didn’t seem to bother the windsurfers.

Still lovely now.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 25/02/2018 17:36

Clear blue skies in East Kent, a really lovely day.

Augggh! This is nail biting stuff! I just really want snow, I love the stuff! Watching the lamp posts and looking for flakes. Seeing it settle, then watching as the kerbs disappear which makes it proper snow.

fredabear · 25/02/2018 17:38

Its all a bit 'calm before the storm' today isn't it!

OnionKnight · 25/02/2018 17:42

The temperature is dropping now, I've just been outside and my nipples are like scania nuts.

It's been gorgeous here all day but bitterly cold the whole time - our garden is in full sun all day as it's south facing but the pond is still frozen - it wasn't yesterday and the fish were happily swimming around.

MorvahRising · 25/02/2018 17:57

Absolutely perishing here in Surrey, but it’s been a gorgeous day.

Bertrand frozen washing sounds fascinating - does that mean you could just sort of snap a shirt in half?

If we get snow I’m going to clean our hearth rug. Apparently if you take rugs in the garden and drag them about over snow it cleans them beautifully!

Officialy joining the expectant snow watchers this evening after having lurked here for days! I am in deepest North Yorkshire and slap bang under an amber warning area. It has been a stunning day here- we even had lunch outside in the garden! Bitterly cold though- snow will lie straight away if it stays like this. Have not stockpiled anything yet- am being a bit cavalier and Scottish about it. May live to regret that! Good luck everyone and thank you for this thread- as usual, mumsnet is streets ahead for up to date, incisive information!

MedicinalGin · 25/02/2018 18:03

Morvah that’s a great tip for the rugs! It will give my husband something to do if he gets stuck at home this week 😂

YearOfYouRemember · 25/02/2018 18:06

I live on top of a hill and have been snowed in a few times. My concern is if the dc get to school then can't get home again. The bus company has said they don't care if the kids are late, sometimes don't even send a bus and haven't realised and it's eight miles on dual carriageways if they have to walk.

GloriaSmud · 25/02/2018 18:09

Ratbag ~ Tomorrow morning would be a good time to do some stocking up as apart from Thursday, it's looking quite snowy for that area.

Show of Hands ~ Yes, you could have a happy DS this week!

Snow or not, I'm working from home tomorrow.

Petalflowers · 25/02/2018 18:19

Went to supermarket to by a roast earlier. There is definantly ‘prepping’ going on here in deepest Kent. In particular, I noticed that the milk, water and soup shelves looked emptier then usual.

(Must admit, did my usual Tuesday ‘top-up’ milk and bread shop today, as live semi-rurally, and don’t want the worry of having to get to a shop in the snow.)
