We were meant to be going to a gin festival on Friday, I don't think we'll be going at this rate.

Frouby · 25/02/2018 13:04

Gulp. We are right on the edge of the amber warning (Rotherham/Barnsley) for Tuesday. Dp is working in leeds next week. And he picks up the lads from the Rotherham/Sheffield borders.

I can see it being a short working week for him.

Cerrocoandblack · 25/02/2018 13:06

Yeesh, just on the edge of the amber warming here. Actually my gardens in it but my house isn’t Grin

fredabear · 25/02/2018 13:16

the r4 forecast just before 1pm news mentioned warnings and was very clear that its potentially v serious towards the end of the week, so maybe they've been reading this thread!

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/02/2018 13:18

Right in the middle of the amber warning area.

I've brought my wellies in from the storage box in the garage and I've checked that everyone has a hat and gloves. I've got a carrot for the inevitable snowman.

We live in walking distance of a convenience store and a large supermarket. I think we've got enough supplies until next weekend but I've got two elderly neighbours so I will knock to see if they need anything if I'm off to the shops.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 13:46

Woollyback, you make such a good point about vulnerable neighbours perhaps needing help this week.

Further updated weather warnings ~ they seem to be changing every few minutes today!

BertrandRussell · 25/02/2018 14:03

I”m slap bang in the middle of a yellow warning and very excited......

fredabear · 25/02/2018 14:10

I'm really not looking forward to the coming week, despite being relatively used to snow being in the NE, likewise DDs who have a mile to walk each way to school (although they are hoping for closures as the buses from the surrounding villages can't get through when it snows!).
Onion I think I might have my own gin festival at home if the forecast is true!

icantdothis2017 · 25/02/2018 14:11

Am dreading it tbh .
Hate snow

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 14:14

No surprises at all with the updated warnings Gloria.

Urgh. I'm just outside of Hull. Looks like we stand a likelihood of disruption, though according to the local rag we are going to be buried from tonight onwards, which I don't believe.

BuzzKillington · 25/02/2018 14:23

Exciting! Will sulk if we don't get any in Hertfordshire.

ConfusedDotty · 25/02/2018 14:24

Oh I love this thread, I have spent far too much time checking it every 5mins.

I am in the amber warning zone. I’m South Tyneside on the coast, I am so excited, not so excited about driving to work and back though.

Thank you Kitten and Gloria for keeping us all up to date.

BishopBrennansArse · 25/02/2018 14:32

Dew points dropping like stones in Kent and East Sussex.... -3 to -4 dropped to -7 and -8!

llmb · 25/02/2018 14:43

bishop what are dew points or is that a typo?

gttia · 25/02/2018 14:45

I'm now under an amber warning! It changed again lol

BishopBrennansArse · 25/02/2018 15:03

It's to do with water saturation in air. Not absolute but generally dew points of zero or below are good for snow.

Good example is this morning I didn't have to de ice my car despite it being below freezing - negative dew point meant the air was dry and so ice didn't form on the windscreen.

Hope that doesn't sound too garbled, makes sense in my head 😂

llmb · 25/02/2018 15:06

Oh I see! I’m that area, hence me asking what it meant Grin same here with the car this morning which I found odd! The forecast is changing almost hourly here. I think either we won’t get any of much significance or it will be heavy. We are quite high and rural so the roads tend to come to a standstill!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 15:11

That's exactly right Brennan, it's partly why we may end up with a horrid mix on Friday. Dew points will rise. It's also why the snow earlier this week is going to be powder snow and very vulnerable to making large drifts.
It's going to be quite rubbish for making snowmen I'm afraid.

I'm going to be out for the afternoon now. The GFS model should update from around 4pm here make sure you are looking at the 12z, not the earlier 06z, meteociel can be a bit slow to update, but it presents the info in a nice format.

Judydreamsofhorses · 25/02/2018 15:16

Following with interest. I’m NE Scotland and we have an amber warning. I am not a fan of snow and know it will cause huge problems at work with people not making it in, and those of us who do having to cover their classes. We never, ever get a snow day!

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/02/2018 15:26

If the snow isn't conducive for making snowmen I may use the carrot reserved for the snowman's nose to make soup Grin

lamettarules · 25/02/2018 15:29

a more organised area of snow

just read this phrase on met office and it made me smile .I'm sure it has a precise meaning but in my head I'm thinking "right ,enough of all this unpredicitabilty ,let's get on with it ! "

Bishop where can I find a forecast giving dew points ?
