This country makes me laugh 😂.
It's a bit of snow forecast and we all go mad

stubbornstains · 25/02/2018 11:27

Snow still forecast for this part of Cornwall on Wednesday and Thursday, whichever forecast you're watching. Sleet and rain thereafter, though. So perhaps we won't have to resort to eating the children.

pumpersnatch · 25/02/2018 11:33

@icantdothis2017 we arent all going mad. This isn't a hysterical thread about the weather. For the most part it's full of informed and educated meteorological posts. Most of the poster's here enjoy the weather predictions and are looking forward to some snow and interesting weather.
There are also those who don't enjoy it and follow the thread for their own reasons.
As your username suggests, we ALL have things we find " difficult ".Hmm

ReinettePompadour · 25/02/2018 11:36

@icantdothis2017 Of course we all go mad, we rarely actually get snow so dont really understand how to continue with day to day life.

My council didnt bother gritting any of the roads during the ice and snow before Christmas. I know 5 or 6 people injured in accidents as a result. The council appologised for not being more on the ball and said they hoped it wouldnt happen again. They use the BBC to help forcast so I'm not hopeful for this week. Shock

In addition loads of people say it wont be as bad as 1964/1928 then find that they didnt bother to prepare because they think the shop will still be open. The thing is the shop manager no longer lives within walking distance of work, they drive 30 miles and cant get in to open up because the council used the BBC to forcast the need for gritting and didnt bother. You get dozens of people not prepared because they rely too much on other people to still get into work.

I spent every winter in Australia as a small child and moved over as a teenager --and escaped back to the uk asap after- so for me snow and ice is fascinating and sometimed difficult.

icantdothis2017 · 25/02/2018 11:37

I'll believe it when it happens .

West Sussex here. Anyone know the chances of snow that bad it affects schools and transport?

pumpersnatch · 25/02/2018 11:39

Wait till it happens surely *icantdothis2017 Confused

hoochymama1 · 25/02/2018 11:42

GrinStubborn
North Derbyshire here checking in. Met office weather app has consistently been accurate for here in my experience. Poor bbc, must be frustrating for meteorologists working there.
Thank you lovely weather girls Halo

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 25/02/2018 11:43

Not mad ican just interested and excited, that's okay isn't it? The thread title is quite clear so if you don't like snow watching then this is not the thread for you. Same as if you don't like gardening, steer clear of the gardening threads.

icantdothis2017 · 25/02/2018 11:46

Ok fair enough .
I was wrong .

Also met office has also always been really accurate for me tbh .
For parts of kent it seems like it will be hit but west Sussex I don't think we're see disruptive levels.

Where r u all seeing this ?!

NickMyLipple · 25/02/2018 11:46

I'm trying to acertain just how far the snow will reach on Monday.

Hypothetically, if you're 36 weeks pregnant and live in West Sussex and work in Kingston upon Thames (35 miles north), would you go to work on Monday?

I do NOT want to get stuck (And probably won't be venturing out on Tuesday) but it seems so borderline as to where it will actually land. I'd hate to think I was safe if there is no snow in the morning and then there is 3 inches by home time 😂

GloriaSmud · 25/02/2018 11:59

icantdothis ~ I think the metoffice is more reliable than ever now so I'd keep going with that. I don't think W.Sussex will be too badly affected at the start of the week but Friday is being a bit of a difficult one to forecast and is the one to watch at the moment.

NickMyLipple ~ probably OK Monday. It's Monday night that snow showers could affect things.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/02/2018 12:01

Quite Reinette. Even without the snow the sorts of temperatures they are predicting are unusual for this part of the country where winters are usually mild and wet and the occasional frosty rich morning is as bad as it gets.

Have dug out the winter clothes so mostly sorted there. Might just go and buy some thicker socks and another base layer this afternoon.

Bertiemcgertie · 25/02/2018 12:01

I think it's tricky nick I'm Surrey based working on the south coast. Reigate is showing lots of snow. North West Surrey (Leatherhead and towards Weybridge) is showing light to moderate snow early tomorrow morning. Considering there is only one junction on M25 between Reigate and Leatherhead that's quite a difference.

Kingston on other hand is showing nothing at all 🤔 Source all met office.

icantdothis2017 · 25/02/2018 12:03

So the met office is be to trusted then?
Should be safe to travel within w sussex then

nannynick · 25/02/2018 12:20

Bertiemcgertie, Last year when we had snow, it started early afternoon and by 5pm it was a nightmare on the A217 near M25J8. But by M25J10(A3) there was no sign of snow at all.
With luck councils and highways authority will be prepared for this snow coming.

Lockheart · 25/02/2018 12:21

I live in zone 2 and work in zone 1 - sadly I doubt I’ll have any snow days! I’m in NW6 so maybe more likely to see snow than some parts, but I need the underground, overground, national rail, and the buses to be screwed - curse living in a well-connected area!!! Grin

BishopBrennansArse · 25/02/2018 12:23

Looking at some of the info into Gatwick I'm not convinced W Sussex will be ok. I HAVE to go to Bognor on Tuesday (hospital) and collect Mum from a very rural village so have an emergency kit packed for the car.

It's only sensible. If I don't need it great but I'm not going unprepared.

summersgoneaway · 25/02/2018 12:24

How much chance of south east having snow fri

BishopBrennansArse · 25/02/2018 12:26

Summers I'm not oybbk or Gloria but atm from what I've seen it depends on how far north the low comes. The further north the more chance of rain. From what I can see this whole week is going to be a lot of nowcasting due to the chance of convection etc.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 12:31

sorry, was at church. Back now to have a look at the latest model run.

hoochymama1 · 25/02/2018 12:41

Met office Amber warning for the north east just issued. Sorry can't do link. I'm back from church too, brrr.

GloriaSmud · 25/02/2018 12:41

Updated weather warnings, including an Amber warning for some areas on Tuesday.

hoochymama1 · 25/02/2018 12:53

Thanks Gloria

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 12:56

So the 06z run is starting to pick up the snow showers very clearly. The following locations are where snow seems to be most likely to be disruptive. That doesn't mean to say that it will be ruled out elsewhere. I'd be here to the next model run if I tried to be really comprehensive about where snow will fall.

Monday - East Anglia and Kent. Later perhaps East Sussex too.

Tuesday -Early on All the way down the east coast but especially, the north east and through Lincolnshire. Then draw a line through the Wash and diagonally through the Midlands. Later on, through Kent too. However it is also likely that many other places will see snow too and this could be disruptive.

Wednesday - the east coast again, but I think this time the south may get a bit of respite. Further north the snow could penetrate far in
and to affect many people.

Thursday - the NE and southern Scotland, perhaps further north in Scotland too.
Then southerners, take careful note - Thursday evening is when things may begin to get very disruptive. There continues to be a huge amount of uncertainty about this,

Friday - the uncertainty continues but it's possible that by Friday morning things could be very nasty indeed, with blizzard like conditions and freezing rain in the south. This system will move north through England through Friday. It is quite possible that this will turn to rain on the southern edge. It entirely depends on how far this system moves north.

I think by saturday in the south things will look milder and perhaps wet, but really until we get a handle on Friday there is no point in speculating,.

For people who think that this thread is an over reaction: bite me. Wink
