Latest Outlook from the metoffice:

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:
Seriously cold with strong easterly winds giving significant wind chill. Snow showers becoming more widespread day on day, with the largest snowfalls across eastern Britain. Disruption is likely for many.

UK Outlook for Thursday 1 Mar 2018 to Saturday 10 Mar 2018:
March will begin very cold with sunshine and snow showers, these continuing to bring some accumulations especially across eastern parts. Friday could see heavier and disruptive snow developing across southern and some central areas, combined with strong to gale force easterly winds, leading to blizzard conditions. However, there is a lot of uncertainty with this. Thereafter, it is likely to remain very cold through early March with further snow showers in the east and southeast. The best of the sunshine is likely in the west, but all areas will feel bitterly cold in strong winds with a significant wind chill. Overnight frost will be widespread and severe in places. At times, it may turn more unsettled and less cold across the west and southwest.

UK Outlook for Sunday 11 Mar 2018 to Sunday 25 Mar 2018:
The start of this period is likely to remain very cold across much of the UK, with bitterly cold easterly winds giving a significant wind chill. There will continue to be a risk of snow across southern, eastern and some central areas, but in the north and west it should be drier. Frosts will continue to be widespread and severe in places. As we head towards the middle of March it may turn more unsettled and less cold with milder and wetter weather spreading up from the south or southwest. This may lead to further significant snow in places although this remains very uncertain. Northern areas may hang on to the colder weather well into March.

Morning all :)

Tomorrow I think the greatest risks for snow are around Norfolk, south Linchonshire and perhaps Kent.

Tuesday the greatest risk are anywhere away from the west coast, but especially concentrated along the east coast, penetrating (via the Wash) across the Midlands and as far as north Wales.

Wednesday at the moment looks fairly quiet, though snow showers could get going again across the north of England and eastern Scotland.

Thursday night into Friday morning it's the turn of the south, with some heavy overnight snow but perhaps some rain for a time along the south coast. Once again, there's uncertainty about this transition.

Precise areas of snow will continue to fluctuate I'm afraid.

I find it utterly astonishing that the BBC are not obligated to mention met office warnings.

Maybe we need to start lobbying for a met office weather channel!

Central Norfolk checking in. Thanks to Gloria and Kitten for your pearls of wisdom - it’s so fascinating that there is so much divergence between the forecasts. I have to do quite a bit of driving for school runs and work. Are there any days that you think are going to be not worth attempting? We usually leave at 7 in the morning and get home around 5pm. I really appreciate your commenting on these threads and call you my Weather Ladies to my friends and family!

MynameisJune · 25/02/2018 08:40

North Lincolnshire, east coast here. We only ever really get bad snow when it comes from the East as it did in 2010. Most weather places seem to say we’ll get some snow just not sure how much! I love snow 😁

magimedi · 25/02/2018 08:43

Considering I pay £147 a year to the BBC, it infuriates me that they can not deliver a decent forecast.

No frost here this morning - just close enough to the coast (Sussex) for it to have held off. Still bitterly cold in the strong wind.

speakout · 25/02/2018 08:44

badkitten- so none in Scotland?. That's good.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 08:45

lol at weather ladies Grin

Monday/Tuesday depends entirely on where snow showers end up. Think of it like a forecast of heavy showers in the summer, if you are unlucky/lucky you can end up with a pretty wet day, but if they skirt you, you end up with a dry day and you think the forecast was rubbish when in fact down the road is drowning.

Friday, keep an eye on it, but you may be too far east to be impacted too much.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 08:49

speakout, greatest risk doesn't mean that everywhere else will get none. By that, I mean those are the areas that I feel are most likely to be impacted. Other areas will see snow and I think it's likely that some places in eastern Scotland will see the occasional snow shower.

Remember though I am an amateur and do get things wrong. Please double check with the met office website for any planning. I have no doubt that by the end of the week some of you will think I'm pretty crap at this. It's the risk I take by trying to put some details onto it.

I am on the east coast of Scotland. The weather app i use says it is going to snow here every day from Tuesday to Sunday next week!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2018 09:17

It does look as though the south may see a milder blip over the weekend, before returning to cold. This all depends on how far Thursday nights/Friday mornings low penetrates.

The north looks to retain the cold for sometime.

There was a question last night about twitter feeds. The met office are good to follow. Also DerekTheWeather. I have a lot of time for him.

I love it when posters indicate where they are ,I wish everyone could !

I'm SE London ,due to fly from Luton on Tues afternoon and return on Thursday .At the moment I'm thinking I'll make it .But will be carrying stuff in case stuck on transport .

megletthesecond · 25/02/2018 09:43

I like the way the met office has a snow warning out for us in north Hampshire when nothing is forecast.

Also getting fed up of the constant fluctuations. I haven't told the dc's yet, I don't want to get their hopes up only to find we don't get an inch of snow.

notsomanky · 25/02/2018 09:45

Lovely cold crisp walk to work this morning.

The kids have been excited about potential snow, until I showed them where we lived V the forecast. They are now sulking, as they were hoping for loads but we will probably only get occasional showers

DH is supposed to be travelling from here (Manchester) to Glasgow on Friday evening, I think he is hoping he can't !

PrimalLass · 25/02/2018 09:50

I've checked five forecasts this morning and ours (eastern Scotland) looks less bad than they were saying yesterday (Tue-Fri).

PrimalLass · 25/02/2018 09:51

Except WeatherRadar which makes it look worse

turnipfarmers · 25/02/2018 10:02

I use Accuweather as I think they are quite accurate.

ReinettePompadour · 25/02/2018 10:27

The BBC are now telling me (Staffordshire) that I might get light snow on Tuesday and light snow Friday. Daytime temperatures range from highs of 4 degrees tomorrow and 2 the rest of the week.

Netweather is saying snow, snow, snow and a bit more snow most days this week and sleet next weekend. With highs of 0 this week and feels like being down to -6 degrees.

My question is does the BBC just get handed a piece of paper that they select what theyre going to say? Is Tomasz Shafernaker not a real meteorologist who can do his own weather forcast? Why are they so different from all the others?

GloriaSmud · 25/02/2018 10:46

magimedi "Considering I pay £147 a year to the BBC, it infuriates me that they can not deliver a decent forecast."

The reason why the BBC looked to other organisations to provide forecasts was because the government pressured them. They (the BBC) always have to prove that they're giving value for money in everything they do. I think now the change has happened, I realise how good the metoffice/BBC combined were at producing forecasts.

Reinette ~ I think all the weather presenters have done meterology/been trained by the metoffice but they're employed by the BBC, so they have to produce a forecast from the data the BBC are given and if that's from the meteogroup (as it is now), then that's what they have to do.

GloriaSmud · 25/02/2018 10:52

Some thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook and Netweather.

Noting this bit from Netweather about Monday night and Tuesday..

By Monday evening you would do well to heed the no doubt many and further severe weather warnings, as snow becomes an increasing problem overnight, especially over East Scotland and some eastern parts of England, as showers become heavier and more frequent. Further West clear intervals and fewer showers are expected, but there'll be another widespread, penetrating frost as temperatures fall mostly to between -2 and -6C. By morning we could see some drifting of the snow in the East and North East, particularly on hills, in a piercing, bitter and gusty North East or northerly wind.

Please be prepared for the particularly severe conditions expected from Tuesday, as one of the worst spells of winter weather for many a year hits large areas of the country. A severe wind chill is expected by mid-week accompanied by heavy snow that could be whipped into deep drifts by the wind.

IrenetheQuaint · 25/02/2018 11:12

I'm looking at the Netweather forecasts now, but am rather suspicious of them, as for every 3 hour period tomorrow and Tuesday the risk of snow is either 0% or 95% - there are no intermediate options.
