Thank you GloriaSmud
I shall adjust my week accordingly. I'm retired now thank goodness as I had an absolute dread of getting stuck on public transport again.

gttia · 24/02/2018 19:43

Beautiful day on the Kent coast today. Now back home it's bitterly cold. Dreading what's coming

New bbc weather site is just pants
Warnings for heavy snow Monday Tuesday Wednesday and no pictures of snow. Pfft.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 24/02/2018 20:03

Bah - bbc just showing light snow for East Kent. Every time I look at a forecast it seems to avoid us. Dd is excited at the prospect of a snow day as am I, would be epic. Weather is so damn interesting though isn't it, I learn so much lurking on these threads.

GloriaSmud · 24/02/2018 20:12

The BBC weather is awful now ~ every forecast they give us now is for ' and breezy!' A poster on netweather said it must be awful for the BBC weather presenters as they know heavy snow is coming but all the meteogroup is saying is 'light snow,' yet they know the metoffice has issued weather warnings.
I wonder how long the contract with meteogroup will last at this rate...

WordWeasel · 24/02/2018 20:21

Gloria, forgive my stupidity, but why can't they go ahead and say that snow is coming?

Tr1skel1on · 24/02/2018 20:22

I'm back on MN after a break of a couple of years, due to the inefficient BBC forecasts and wanting to see what OYBBK thought about the incoming weather. Lovely to see Gloria has joined in too :)

Having watched the forecast Gloria helpfully linked to above I'm stunned. My very exposed Irish Sea location is due to get snow, quite possibly lots of it!

We never get snow here. Storm force or even hurricane force winds a few times every winter, its to be expected. But a reasonable of snow is extremely rare. I'm off to starting looking through the garage for our sledges, the kids will be delighted.

GloriaSmud · 24/02/2018 20:49

WordWeasel ~ I think it's because the BBC changed from the metoffice providing the weather to meteogroup, so they have to follow what they say. I was watching Tomasz Schafernaker earlier on News24 and all he said was, 'prepare yourself, disruptive snow is coming this week,' with nothing about weather warnings as that's the metoffice's department and they're not using them anymore. The BBC website seems to be different as it appears they use both meteogroup but include the metoffice's weather warnings as well.

As the change has only happened in the last few weeks, I'm a bit Confused at it all still but it doesn't seem to be one of the BBC's best decisions!

WordWeasel · 24/02/2018 20:51

Thank you Gloria!
(Weird that Meteogroup isn't acknowledging the forthcoming snowmaggedon, though.)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2018 21:03

Tr1 Blush

I really thought that the BBC were still supposed to use the met office warnings. That was a question raised early in the process of them switching provider.

Irene, things will probably change by Friday. I don't want people to get terribly worried.

At the moment, the models are trending warmer for Friday. It's quite startling how quickly they seem to want to shift the cold. So it's still very much up in the air as so to speak.

Oh god, I start 4 night shifts from Monday, travelling from West Sussex to south London by car..... I'll make it in but will I make it home?!
And work will be carnage, literally (paramedic)
Willing it not to hit.

GloriaSmud · 24/02/2018 21:15

Unless it was just Mr Schafernaker's way of presenting the weather. I just thought it was weird that I was watching his forecast this afternoon and it was several hours after the metoffice gave their warnings but he didn't mention them, whereas before the change, he would have done. Might be interesting to watch the BBC forecasts over the next few days to see if the warnings get mentioned.

GreenySho · 24/02/2018 21:16

I don’t get BBC at all, met office and netweather has us getting snow on mon/tues/wed and temps of 0 or below

BBC says 4 degrees and maybe some rain Hmm

ReinettePompadour · 24/02/2018 21:22

BBC has no snow for me at all this week (Staffordshire Moorlands) with it being dry, sunny spells and temps of 4 degrees most days.

Metcheck has snow from midday Monday all the way through to Thursday, heavy at times with highs of 0 degrees.

Im not sure anyone actually understands what is going on sufficiently to predict the weather. I reckon mn is as good as anyone else.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2018 21:26

seriously Reinette? 4c and dry? what on earth are they on. You'll be lucky to see temps above 0 for much of the week and will quite probably see snow showers.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2018 21:29

It will be really interesting to see if the bbc do mention the warnings. I think there are some serious questions to ask if they don't, the warnings exist in part to protect life.

They do publish them on their website here but lots of people don't go online.

SO EXCITING!!! fingers crossed. The last lot of snow was ace-one day beautiful snow, then gone in two days in worcs.

Unescorted · 24/02/2018 21:34

rein we are on the Manchester side of the Peaks and I assumed it was because of the Kinder rain shadow..... maybe not because that wouldn't explain why none is forecast for you.

ReinettePompadour · 24/02/2018 21:38

Its crap, I have 30 litres of water and 14 tins of soup to keep us going and theres not a single flake predicted by the bbc. I luffs Tomasz Shafernaker too and I'm really disappointed with his predictions. Sad

BestIsWest · 24/02/2018 21:43

4c forecast for us (Wales) too by the BBC for Tuesday and the Met office have 3c.

MrsKCastle · 24/02/2018 21:46

Kitten and Gloria is it starting to look less serious/less snow than originally thought? I was starting to think we might have schools closed and all sorts where I am (Essex/London borders) but every time I check metcheck and XC weather the snow amounts seem to be going down! I guess it's still too early to tell?

BestIsWest · 24/02/2018 21:47

We are at sea level though.

gttia · 24/02/2018 21:51

Mrskcastle I really hope so!
