It's the driving in it that I hate. I have a 30/40 minute drive to work and I really panic about doing it in the snow. The alternative is catching 3 buses which takes over two hours...Roll on June!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2018 09:08

Those snow socks really are quite miraculous Scarlett. If you have front wheel drive then you only need the one pair on the front.

Those snow socks look great OYBBK. We used to have winter tyres in Hungary - went on in Oct every year and off again in late March. Not necessary here esp in south west though. Not even sure I could justify the socks!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2018 09:49

Between 2009 and 2013 I dithered about getting winter tyres, they wouldn't have been worth it!

Hmm I’ll be driving in zone 2-3 London next week. I’m hoping grit will be enough, I don’t have any car socks. Now I’m wondering if I’ll need them...

Whatthefoxgoingon · 24/02/2018 10:02

You’ve reminded me that I do have some grips for my shoes though. Excellent.

GloriaSmud · 24/02/2018 10:04

Updated weather warnings ~ Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2018 10:07

Fox I don't think I'd use snow socks in London, too much bare tarmac potential, you'd wear through them quickly.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 24/02/2018 10:08

I agree. I don’t have any anyway so I’m quite eager to agree Grin

Cerrocoandblack · 24/02/2018 10:09

It is bitter outside atm (Essex). Just walked the dog across the fields and it’s very very cold out there. So strange with the wind blowing in the “wrong” direction too!

cloudberry · 24/02/2018 10:59

Lurker here too. Have a lot of horses so just mildly obsessed with the weather Grin Keep coming back here to keep an eye on developments! Thank you, an invaluable resource. I’m dreading next week, nightmare with horses. We’re south Herefordshire/welsh borders and often miss the snow. What d’you reckon our chances are for snow next week?

Latest Outlook from the metoffice:

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:
Staying bitterly cold, with scattered snow showers and overnight sharp frosts. Snow showers will be heavy at times, especially in the east, leading to the risk of disruption in places.

UK Outlook for Thursday 1 Mar 2018 to Saturday 10 Mar 2018:
March will begin very cold with sunshine and snow showers, these continuing to bring some accumulations especially across eastern parts. Friday could see heavier and disruptive snow developing across southern and some central areas, combined with strong to gale force easterly winds, leading to blizzard conditions. However, there is a lot of uncertainty with this. Thereafter, it is likely to remain very cold through early March with further snow showers in the east and southeast. The best of the sunshine is likely in the west, but all areas will feel bitterly cold in strong winds with a significant wind chill. Overnight frost will be widespread and severe in places. At times, it may turn more unsettled and less cold across the west and southwest.

UK Outlook for Sunday 11 Mar 2018 to Sunday 25 Mar 2018:
The start of this period is likely to remain very cold across much of the UK, with bitterly cold easterly winds giving a significant wind chill. There will continue to be a risk of snow across southern, eastern and some central areas, but in the north and west it should be drier. Frosts will continue to be widespread and severe in places. As we head towards the middle of March it may turn more unsettled and less cold with milder and wetter weather spreading up from the south or southwest. This may lead to further significant snow in places although this remains very uncertain. Northern areas may hang on to the colder weather well into March.

CarpeVitam · 24/02/2018 12:27

Excited at the prospect of snow! Hope it reaches us here in West Yorkshire!?

MadisonAvenue · 24/02/2018 12:35

Really not looking forward to any snow we might get in the Midlands. I hate snow and ice, my balance is terrible on it. We're supposed to be having our drive extended and tarmac laid on Tuesday too!

Delatron · 24/02/2018 13:42

I don't want snow in March! I want an early Spring heatwave (fat chance). Snow in December, fine. I've had enough of the cold by now.

MayhemandMadness01 · 24/02/2018 13:46

Most of the news is about the east coast, whats happening around Liverpool? anyone heard how bad it may or may not be?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2018 14:18

Mayhem the reason the news is about the east coast is that that is the direction that the wind is coming in from. I think you may see light snow showers from Tuesday.

Thanks OYBBK, just worried about getting to a funeral on Tuesday.

BestIsWest · 24/02/2018 14:42

Well, it’s absolutely glorious here in Wales today. Sunshine, not much wind, actually quite warm.
Not looking forward to the cold at all.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2018 14:48

I think you should be fine Mayhem. I'm sorry about the funeral.

I suppose I've not done my usual disclaimer that Gloria and I are both amateurs fitting this in around work and home life :)

It's really important to double check what we are saying with official met office forecasts, especially for important decisions with regards to the weather. I'd hate for anyone to make a decision that they then regret because we got it wrong.

nancy75 · 24/02/2018 15:19

I made an important decision today, I bought wellies! Now I can walk to work through snowmageddon with dry feetGrin

megletthesecond · 24/02/2018 15:35

I'm fed up with our forecast chopping and changing every couple of hours. Why cant weather stay put Hmm.

HalfStar · 24/02/2018 15:55

Been lurking on this thread, always love the weather threads here! OYBBK we are due to get some of this in ROI but details a bit slow to emerge. Just wondering if you have any sense yet if western ireland will be much affected? I am super pregnant and wondering if I need to start prepping for a home birth Confused
