@Springiscoming123 We're in Hove, not far back from the sea, so snow is a rarity for us! Grin I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic about the snow, but am mostly just getting very excited that my kids might get to finally build a snowman in the garden!

StabbyBitchTheEvilWitch · 23/02/2018 13:38

I have just read the thread from the beginning and have no idea what any of it actually means Blush

Will we get any snow in Hampshire/Southampton? We haven’t had snow in a few years!

Springiscoming123 · 23/02/2018 13:41

food well im sure your chances are greater than mine Dorset

hope you get the snow you want Grin

Perihelion · 23/02/2018 14:14

I'm looking at the forecasts with a Hmm Grin
It just looks like a continuation of much of the weather we've had in Scotland this winter.....cold, some snow ( particularly on Tuesdays....), some brutal baltic winds.Wind chill aside the temperatures aren't massively extreme......

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2018 14:39

Quite possibly Stabby by mid week.

Peri, they are pretty unusual for the south of England, especially for prolonged periods. Days where we don't exceed 0c are not very common. We don't build houses for proper cold. The wind chill is the major factor though and the very low dew points which means any snow will stick around properly.

Doubt we will get any snow here in Somerset. Hoping so anyway! I did ten years in Eastern Europe and did my time!

Will get DH on to lagging outside taps etc. I think we have salt.

Best make sure DH ordered those cases of wine he was planning to order yesterday!

Frouby · 23/02/2018 15:18

Love these threads, much more helpful than any of the weather apps.

Have stocked up on pet foods today and am considering either moving the guinea pigs and pet pigeon into the shed or indoors. The ponies have rugs where necessary though the hardy highland pony was slightly sweaty yesterday! So she definitely won't need a rug I don't think. They are in at night anyway.

But am definetly going to move the small animals. I don't think the pet pigeon will like being indoors so he can have his house in the shed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2018 15:24

I think moving them into the shed is a great idea. I wonder if bringing them indoors might be too much of a thermal shock though?

Just been invited to a very important meeting Tuesday, 17 miles away in south London. I won't get from Kent to there will I?

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 23/02/2018 15:27

My weather app (not that accurate tbh) says we'll have snow mon-wed next week. Kids are excited!

brizzledrizzle · 23/02/2018 15:28

The guinea pigs will really need to come indoors I think, it's bitter - ours are shivering at the door in confusion as it's sunny and they want to go out but then I open the door and they run away from the arctic air and look most indignant!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2018 15:31

gttia, it's impossible to tell for sure at the moment. Must be a bit argh for you.

Animals definitely indoors...but then I'm a sucker for them, and would most probably make sure they're warm enough before my own DC !!!

Springiscoming123 · 23/02/2018 16:28

the BBC's week ahead weather is missing on their website, hmm

Frouby · 23/02/2018 16:48

Have ordered them some thermal heat pads and will move to shed tomorrow. The problem with bringing them in is getting them out again. And we have a whippet who would be very interested in eating them if they are indoors. The pigeon would have a nervous breakdown if I brought her in.

They have a small bedroom bit that I have filled to the top today with straw quite tightly packed. They are longer haired piggies too so have a little natural insulation.

And have just been out and picked them both up and they feel nice and warm. I think the heat pads and shed is probably going to be the least stressful option for them.

Easilyflattered · 23/02/2018 16:52

Well I'm stunned that my lovely neighbour who is a paramedic had no idea of next week's weather. I would have thought emergency service workers might have been warned by now.

Cerrocoandblack · 23/02/2018 17:03

My ex is a power line person and is on emergency call out for next week. Can’t believe NHS front line staff aren’t aware?! Maybe he missed it?

megletthesecond · 23/02/2018 17:15

Definitely bring the piggies inside. When I had piggies they can indoors one winter and never left.

Still nothing forecast for Hampshire, it looks like we'll just have the cold.

Perihelion · 23/02/2018 17:18

Was forgetting how this was unusual for more Southern areas Blush OYBBK

GloriaSmud · 23/02/2018 18:02

Finally the cold spell has made the news!

GloriaSmud · 23/02/2018 18:14

Oh great ~ DD1 (just home from college) asked if there's any more news on the cold snap and came out with "The Beast from the East." To which DH said, "It's only a bit of cold. We are not the Daily Express."

I may have to write rude words in the frost on his car tomorrow morning!

Medeci · 23/02/2018 18:15

This is weird. The Express is showing a Met Office level 3 alert for most of England, issued at 08.30 this morning for Monday link to Express site it looks real but when I went to the Met Office site its just got the yellow alert, and only for the East.
Surely the Express wouldn't have made it up???

GloriaSmud · 23/02/2018 18:26

medeci ~ the Express hasn't made it up, they're both separate metoffice pages.
Metoffice weather warnings page.
Metoffice Cold Weather alert page.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 23/02/2018 18:30

Would starting a new discussion on Chat spread the word a bit more?

My starts usually get ignored btw Grin

Medeci · 23/02/2018 18:32

Thanks Gloria Smile
