Grin the forecast is worth it just to stock up! Really appreciate this thread, I've been able to organise things at work and advise my colleagues (nhs). So thank you to you both

Cerrocoandblack · 22/02/2018 22:57

I’m still being widely laughed at and told it’s going to be fine Hmm

leesmum · 22/02/2018 23:14

Really though cheers Kitten and Glorias Im happy for once that Manchester might escape the snow and I must admit to being slightly relieved, but it's the extreme freezing temperatures that people need to be aware of. Thanks ladies

Just watched the weather on itv...."a cold spell" is on its way !!!! It's everywhere...all over social media ...how are they still dumming it down! ! I've really been on the ball this week...plus a few WFH days. Next week is a nightmare work wise, and you can guarantee I am not going to be as efficient stocking up next week !!!

Ethelswith · 23/02/2018 06:38

I've just seen those weather warnings - yellow for snow on Monday over SE/London, and up a swathe of the east for Tuesdsy.

My question is how snowy is it likely to be in London at the end of next week (know it'll take a few days for forecasts to improve). But I wanted to stake my interest in knowing - there's a major half marathon in central London on 4 March

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2018 07:02

goodness they don't normally issue warnings until around 11am.

Stunning start to the cold spell this am. -5c, coldest temp I've recorded this winter.

ok, off to check the models....

What are the possibilities of snow in North Cambridgeshire? I don't like driving in it and want to know if I need to pull myself together!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2018 07:10

ok, GFS pretty well concurs with the warning areas for Monday/Tuesday, but bringing in snow showers further into England on Monday evening.

Then it goes a bit crackers and dumps much snow over many of us Wednesday through Friday, before warmer air is introduced from the south at the weekend bringing a really nasty mix of rain sleet and snow.

Remember.... just one model, I'll have a look at the others now.

Just seen the weather warnings! Aaah Confused

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 23/02/2018 07:13

This is SO exciting! Grin

I thought all snow hope was over for another year.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2018 07:17

ECMWF extends the cold beyond next weekend.

Of exceptionally serious concern is the wind chill being shown by the met office next week. With high temperatures of around 0 (lower where snow settles) and winds of around 30mph at times for people, the wind chill will be around -9/-10 even in the middle of the day.

I only hope local authorities are able to get every homeless person in off the streets.

OP posts:
IrenetheQuaint · 23/02/2018 07:23

Local authorities have a legal duty to provide emergency cold weather shelters when the temperature is forecast to drop below freezing 3 nights in a row... But, as you say, the challenge is bringing everyone in.

megletthesecond · 23/02/2018 07:39

Our town has a homeless night shelter from Dec to Feb. The last night is the 28th next week. I hope they can extend it for a bit longer.

SunnySeaShell · 23/02/2018 07:41

Just been out to the bin, my goodness, it's absolutely freezing out there this morning already!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2018 07:50

They have to Meglet, they can't leave people on the streets. Maybe if people are concerned about it they could pop in a quick query to their local Councillor.

First thing I did when I got up this morning was to check this thread. Second thing I did was to change the delivery date of my online shopping !!! OYBBK and Gloria you owe me £2 if nothing happens !!!!

lubeybooby · 23/02/2018 08:01

-2.8 air temp in the south Shropshire hills this morning. Here we go! I have a lot of firewood ready, though the heating is holding up nicely at the mo (bit of a rickety oil fired system)

Avebury · 23/02/2018 08:33

Met Office App still not showing snow for SW London next week apart from one measly flake in the early hours of Wednesday morning. DC are desperate so come on snow.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 23/02/2018 08:37

I’ve never been more grateful for our underfloor heating. Another wonderfully sunny day looking deceptively warm whilst inside.

Wind chill nearly took my face off when I stepped outside Shock

Whatthefoxgoingon · 23/02/2018 08:38

Looks like SE London might be the only bit of London getting snow. Bah! DC will be disappointed.

InMySpareTime · 23/02/2018 08:50

SW London can have all the snow it likes after 11pm Thursday. If it can just hold off long enough for my flight to leave I'd be much obliged, I don't get away often.
