Met office warnings

Nothing exceptional, but it is early and trees are in full leaf so are vulnerable. 3 days of strong winds in various places coming up. Tomorrow night into Wednesday we could see gusts to 70mph across northern Wales and northern England. It could be pretty disruptive.

Ooh, the Met Office website has changed. Thanks for this OYB.

It's easier for me to miss warnings that aren't in my area now it's changed, which is a pity.

This is just looking like we'll catch the edge of it, no walks in the woods for us for a couple of days. We're in quite an exposed position and last time we had gales we lost a tree in our front garden And dh got a bin lid in the face and looked like I'd smacked him for a day or so!

On the plus side, getting the fire lit should be a doddle...

Yes well, to be fair it would have stood more of a chance if dh hadn't damaged the roots a couple of months earlier putting up a fence () but it wasn't ideal. Fortunately it just developed an extremely alarming list as opposed to going all the way - the fence held it up, in fact, until we could take it right down. It was very sad though. Poor old tree.

It was a rough old day though, and our house faces the prevailing wind and has the draughtiest front door in the world which opens right into the living room too so I'm not a massive fan of gales all round, really.

It's quite chilly here today (SE) wind is strong and has been chucking it down with rain on and off.

I didn't even know there was a weather topic sadly I quite enjoy checking the weather and talking about it

lets hope the garage roof stays on this time. (and the flat's roof)

Hopefully there will be minimal problems and disruption for everyone.

updated warnings for tomorrow night. I think this is going to be a nasty shock for people, with gusts now forecast to 75mph and heavy rain warnings out. Just cos this is no Irma doesn't mean it won't be disruptive.

Thanks for the thread OYBBK. Looks like it is going to be breezy here. I really don't like driving in the wind - the bypass is very exposed and everyone tends to get blown across the carriageway.

Thanks oybbk. I've been out with dh this evening doing our annual flipping and weighing down of the trampoline and doing our best to shore things up. Already windy here and hoping our fences fare better than the last big storm we had.

oh well done Sloane, better not to lose the trampoline!

Netweather raise the possibility that this could be the first named storm of the 2017/18 season depending on what the low does.

Oh god I hope we don't get too many storms this autumn. We're getting scaffolding all over our house tomorrow and the roof is coming off next week!

Updated met office warnings will be around 11am I think.

I think they may bring the SE into the warning area overnight, with a squeeze in the isobars showing as the low exits the UK.

It is cold and breezy here in the se this morning. Feels like October which is a month I love. We are getting married in October and I can see me being freezing in my dress even though it has long sleeves! If we have gales that week it will cause chaos for our guests due to our location!

It hammered down with rain last night and a lot of yesterday, the wind has died down here today.

It's 11 degrees but feels like 10 according to the Met Office website.

I was right about them bringing in warnings over the south east due to a squeeze as the depression exits the UK. Beware far Se.

First named storm of the year. From the Met office:
"Storm Aileen will bring a brief spell of very strong westerly winds with gusts of 65-75 mph during the early hours of Wednesday. Longer journey times by road, rail and air are looking likely, with restrictions on roads and bridges. Damage to trees and perhaps buildings, as well as power cuts are expected. Flying debris and large coastal waves are possible, and these could lead to injuries."

Bugger. But I do love the Autumn.
