Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

Come on snow East Anglia is waiting, well we are anyway! I'd love the amount we had about 6 years ago please, was like being back home.

ghostspirit · 09/01/2017 23:32

In my local paper it says it's going to snow every where but going to miss London. Maybe London is under a dome Confused anyway hope it does miss London. Hate it.

CointreauVersial · 10/01/2017 00:07

The BBC weather forecast after the news this evening said the snow in the SE might be "as much as a centimetre".

Pah. That's not snow; that's heavy frost.

DameDeDoubtance · 10/01/2017 06:47

Nothing for East Kent, I am trying to tug the yellow warning down but it's just not happening. Hey ho, maybe there will be a breakaway snow cloud that makes it this far!

MeAndTheMajor · 10/01/2017 06:52

According to the Met Office app, our snow flakes have disappeared in Manchester to be replaced by full sun. Goddamn it, I want snow not sunshine Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2017 07:20

no real further update really. We need to watch Wednesday into Thursday very carefully as heavy rain moves through it will turn to sleet or snow. It's possible - just, that could mean a fair amount of snow for places. More later when I have chance to look at it.

Looking at the BBC Breakfast forecast, and they seemed to have (potential) snow as white fluffy line along the entire south Coast of England.

Though it seems to be changing with every I see

wanderings · 10/01/2017 07:40

I'll believe the snow when it happens; I tend not to believe the papers when they go on about "big freeze" and "heatwave"; especially if they include the word "misery"! Poor old Michael Fish has been mentioned a lot recently, for when he said there would be no "great storm" in 1987.

There was a sudden snowfall in my town this time last year, about 17th January. The snow only lasted for a day, but it covered the ground very thoroughly.

I would enjoy snow if it didn't cause everything to shut down. Countries which regularly have three feet of snow manage fine, whereas Britain is often paralysed by a mere inch.

GingerHollyandIvy · 10/01/2017 07:44

In London, and my weather app is showing possibly snow for Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Other sites are showing it for Thursday and Friday.

AnaG1ypta · 10/01/2017 08:15

GloriaSmud · 10/01/2017 09:55

Signing in from Leicester and we're still in the 'no snow zone.'

BiddyPop · 10/01/2017 09:56

I must try to get a meeting in Geneva again soon!!

Also, maybe I'd better get my snowboots out of the storage unit just in case....maybe on my way to work tomorrow, as they are not open in the evenings.

BiddyPop · 10/01/2017 10:06

The warnings for our area are for low temps and pretty serious windchill (taking plus 6 ish temps to feeling like minus 1! ) - but almost completely dry....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2017 10:06

Just aim to keep an eye on travel on Thursday evening. Especially for those who are predicted heavy rain in the south. It is possible that it may end up snowing much earlier than expected - especially of course over higher ground.

Plenty of snow for many in Scotland Thursday am and wind is going to be an issue that we haven't really talked about yet. Blizzard conditions possible with related power supply issues.

My 3pm sleet for Thursday has changed to 3pm rain, 6pm light snow

BeyondTheStarryNight · 10/01/2017 10:10

And yep, wind picks up Thursday night and Friday morning

LapinR0se · 10/01/2017 10:16

About 5cm here so far

Wincher · 10/01/2017 11:19

I've been following the model discussions with interest on the Netweather forums and there is a nice cold/snow potential event developing for those of us in the south-east next week. As far as I can see we won't get much, if any, snow this Thursday/Friday, and it will then warm up a bit and rain all day Sunday - but by next Tuesday/Wednesday we could possibly have a proper easterly! All still a long way off though.

AbiBranning · 10/01/2017 12:33

Oh Met Office have a Yellow warning for snow in the south including us. Can I get excited yet?

BishopBrennansArse · 10/01/2017 12:59

Just got a UKMO weather warning for snow.
Fingers crossed

Bluntness100 · 10/01/2017 13:00

Ah shite, I'm forecast it Thursday and Friday now. In a strop. 😞

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2017 13:23

yay :) I'm in the south - that's that heavy rain I told you about that could turn into heavy snow for some.
