Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

perhaps the end of next week had been flagged up before. I'm so over today not enough snow and looking to the future.

Iwannasnack · 12/01/2017 23:29

oybbk thanks for your help. I left for the station in pissing rain which had turned to sleet and then snow by the time I got there. I admit I was nervous as the train pulled out and it was settling on all the cars and surrounding fields. However I am now home on the sofa after a great evening and not a single transport problem. Thanks for the reassurance Grin

perhaps There is a big storm going over north of us. On Monday it was -5 at 8am and this morning it was 20 at 10am. I couldn't believe the swing in temp but it does mean all the snow from last weekend melted. I would think the warm weather we are having is going to result in cold weather coming into the UK.

leesmum Happy birthday for next week! I am 36 so a bit younger and we didn't live in the NW full time until the late 80s so I did miss most of the snowy weather.

DameDeDoubtance · 13/01/2017 06:45

Yey! Manchester got some! we may get a bit more this morning, enough to make the kids happy for a bit.

Right, bring on the next lot!

notsomanky · 13/01/2017 07:00

Snow this side of Manchester too.

Maybe about 0.5cm of it. DC are all disappointed there wont be a snow day!

It does look pretty but the cat is refusing to get its paws cold so wont go out. And is sat yowling at me like its my fault!

I wish we had got more, but still, we have snow!

It's raining a bit now Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 07:02

I'll have a look properly when we have sorted out dispatching dd to college safely! As predicted, it's rather icy and I made the mistake of covering the car part way through the rain Confused now it is a horrible mix of frozen snow and ice with the covering stuck very firmly.

But as the headlines on the radio suggest, severe flooding looks likely in eastern coastal counties today and evacuations are taking place. The issue is a storm surge combined with very high tides. Not nice at all. I hope defenses hold.

Im really glad wanna :) the hardest thing about travel in this weather is getting to the station in the first place! (or apparently flying from heathrow which appears to have zero tolerance for any slightly bad weather)

Snowing again Grin

DameDeDoubtance · 13/01/2017 07:10

Where are you notso?

Frouby · 13/01/2017 07:12

Started here sometime between 6am and 7am. It's thick, flat flakes coming in sidewards with the wind. Not really sticking yet. South yorkshire.

AnaG1ypta · 13/01/2017 07:16

We've got a dusting. Got a nice picture before anyone had driven on it!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 13/01/2017 07:16

Woken up to a good dusting, enough to keep the dc happy. We've more snow showers forecast throughout the day.

LadyFlumpalot · 13/01/2017 07:38

A light dusting overnight and some rather ponderous clouds moving in swiftly. An occasional snowflake blowing in as well.

Snow watch.
MayhemandMadness01 · 13/01/2017 07:42

No snow but strong winds around Liverpool

GloriaSmud · 13/01/2017 07:53

We have snow! Started about 30 mins ago and have a slight covering already - should make the school run fun.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 08:02

what timing Gloria!

LadyFlumpalot · 13/01/2017 08:04

The wind normally picks up a few minutes before precipitation, right? It's just started gusting here. Worried about getting the DC to various places.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 08:04

I think snow showers are possible pretty much anywhere today. I'm looking forward to mine late morning! It will lay instantly too.

DesolateWaist · 13/01/2017 08:05

Nothing here. If snow happens during the day then all lessons are cancelled and we are going out.

DoItTooJulia · 13/01/2017 08:05

West mids here-light dusting overnight and it's just started snowing again.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 08:07

precip radar should be helpful Flumpalot :)

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 08:10

Actually, that radar should help most with planning :) there is some sleet mixed in, especially to the west of the band, but a fair bit of it is snow.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2017 08:17

Today, sleet and snow sweeping south. Other showers developing elsewhere perhaps. Most important thing is the coastal surge expected on the Eastern side. Really nasty this.

Tomorrow a few snow showers dotted about then later on warming up.

Sunday rain for many.

Then going towards Thursday it looks as though temps will drop. Very cold, especially by night, with perhaps sub zero temps even in the day time. Snow showers are quite likely to pop up at short notice. Obviously something to be keeping an eye on.

But for the moment, all eyes on the east coast. Lets hope its not too bad.

Perihelion · 13/01/2017 08:18

After a tiny amount of snow yesterday and really icey pavements last night, have woken up to temp of 4c in Edinburgh....at least I don't have to deice the car......
