Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

Dh still stuck on m25, apparently at a standstill.

oldsilver · 12/01/2017 20:45

It warmed up for a bit but temps dropping again out there, thankfully (and surprisingly) the pavements and road are drying - think it's the wind. Sky is clear as a bell - think the snow has passed us by

nannynick · 12/01/2017 21:06

Banstead/Kingswood in Surrey was terrible. Roads ground to a halt. Took me over 3 hours to get home from work. Got to the A3 and the snow vanished. Home on Surrey/Berks border and you can barely tell it has snowed.

Good luck to all those out there still trying to get through the white stuff.

MeAndTheMajor · 12/01/2017 21:06

Not a bloody flake in South Manchester. Yet again it has proved to be GB's most snowless place Angry

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 12/01/2017 21:14

Oooohhh I hear wind, still no snow in Rutland.

RatOnnaStick · 12/01/2017 21:16

Turned from sleet to snow for about half an hour but was back to drizzle by 8. All paths clear and just a light dusting on the grass. At least the boys got to see the snow from the door for a few minutes.

notsomanky · 12/01/2017 21:22

East Manchester/Tameside. We just had a graupel shower.

MeAndTheMajor · 12/01/2017 21:27

Progress! Very light sleaty snow now!

leesmum · 12/01/2017 21:38

Manchester has SNOW

Snow watch.
Want2bSupermum · 12/01/2017 22:00

leesmum That isn't snow! We live just south of NYC. On Saturday we ended up with half a foot of snow which caught me by surprise because the weather app on my phone is useless. It showed up as snowing on Saturday and Sunday on my phone last night and is still showing it. Probably means we won't get any.

Snow is great when you don't have to shovel it. I hate doing the sidewalk and thank the lord we don't have a driveway. I am very happy that our employers pay for our cars to be kept in the towns garage so no digging out.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 22:02

awesome Lee! Want2b, don't diss Lees snow, it's really quite rare in Manchester.

Nothing around Liverpool. Just not fair

FiveShelties · 12/01/2017 22:09

Chorley here - about 20 miles from Manchester and we have snow too - well a few flakes. Forecast gave heavy snow from 4pm today and it has just started. Definitely not enough to make a snowball --- yet.

notsomanky · 12/01/2017 22:11

DH and DS1 have just returned from cricket coaching in Wilmslow. He says it was snowing heavily on the M6 but had slowed to a light shower by the time they got home. Looking outside we have a dusting over everything.

digerd · 12/01/2017 22:15

S. Herts.
A dusting of ice on the grass atmConfused. temp risen to 2.1. Had been 1.7 at 6 20pm. Humidity 85%.

Wonder what will greet us in the morningHmm

notsomanky · 12/01/2017 22:15

M60 NOT M6!

Angryangryyoungwoman · 12/01/2017 22:21

Nothing here in Somerset Angry

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 12/01/2017 22:22

Just checked my weather app about 4 hours of heavy snow forecast overnight then light snow from 6-8am. Maybe Warwickshire will get some after all.

Want2bSupermum · 12/01/2017 22:24

badkitten I grew up in the NW so I do know how rare snow is. I REALLY miss the light dusting of snow we used to get every couple of years. Here, if it snows midweek and have parked on the street I am at 4am to go dig out my car and shovel the sidewalk before taking the kids to school and going to work.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 22:29

that sounds like hard work Want2be! I didn't realise, sorry!

I am a bit concerned by the ice potential tomorrow under clearing skies and car is sat under blanket of snow and freezing water. hmm. I've got our walking boots out.

Want2b you'll remember proper winters when we had lots of snow as kids (although you may not be as old as me) it will be treacherous in the morning if it freezes!! Big chunks coming down now Hmm

Snow watch.
perhapstomorrow · 12/01/2017 22:40

OYBBK - do you have any idea what is the weather looking like next week? Metcheck is showing sleet\snow for next Thursday through to Saturday.

Snow watch.
MegBusset · 12/01/2017 22:41

Not a flake in Norfolk. Bah.

Want2bSupermum · 12/01/2017 22:43

leesmum I don't remember there being lots of snow. My older family members tell me though all the time when I complain about having to clear the snow here because DH is on a business trip. I have to dress 3 kids aged 5 and under in their snow suits and carry them into the car while I dig it out. I then leave the engine on with the kids in the car while I do the sidewalk. I hate it. Apparently my aunt had to do pretty much the same but with milking the cows while my uncle was away on a business trip.

leesmum · 12/01/2017 22:51

Want2b I'm 44 next week and when I was in primary school I clearly remember having lots of snow for most of my birthdays, real snow that stayed for a good week or so..It was lovely Smile
