Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

Now fine wet snow but very windy and much colder. A couple of inches lying on the road.

RatOnnaStick · 12/01/2017 18:45

OK. Windy sleet has arrived south of Ashford.

seasidesally · 12/01/2017 18:45

as per nothing in Dorset

we never get it,i think the only way we will see any is if we go ski-ing,ffs

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 12/01/2017 18:47

Well it might not be snowing but feck me it's cold. The puppy got to the end of the road & gave up. The Bernard went slightly further than normal & enjoyed a lovely off lead run around the park by the river as there was no one else mad enough to be out in sight. I kept making her switch side on the way home so I could bury a hand in her coat to keep it warm. It's not icy yet but I think it'll be ice rink by morning.

DameDeDoubtance · 12/01/2017 18:48

the plus side seaside is that you get to live in Dorset, I love Dorset, stunning place! Smile

seasidesally · 12/01/2017 18:50

agree we are very lucky to live here

poppym12 · 12/01/2017 18:52

This may sound stupid but can we get thunder and snow at night or is it just too cold? It's been raining here with the odd bit of sleet but within the last ten minutes, I've developed a headache. The type of headache I usually get before a thunderstorm. I'm not crazy, honestly

BlackeyedSusan · 12/01/2017 18:53

not a sodding bit.

trying to deal with the resultant upset in dcs

madasa · 12/01/2017 18:59

My boss told me to go home about 3pm in case it got bad. At 5pm I set off with 12 Pringles and a papaya (no knife) and had a nightmare drive from Bromley to Maidstone with my boss' words ringing in my ears. Will listen to her next time Blush

seasidesally · 12/01/2017 19:00

i was the only dog walker out to,it was like the world had ended and nobody told me

CatThiefKeith · 12/01/2017 19:14

Snow in North Kent! Came out of swimming to about an inch of snow. Didn't expect it to settle after all the rain but it has! This is my car 10 mins after we got home. Grin

Snow watch.
DameDeDoubtance · 12/01/2017 19:18

It's snowing!!! Started about 20 minutes ago and it's just starting to lay, you can feel the ground getting colder as it keeps coming down.

Looks like there is more to come over us too!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 19:20

Ours is turning to slush :(

The wind interestingly is much much lighter than the models suggested, suggesting that there wasnt as much instability as predicted.

The main issues as it clears out are now widespread ice and for those on the eastern coast flooding tomorrow afternoon. If you are in a coastal area please check out the Environment agency. example warning

And dont forget there is also the possibility for snowfall along the east tomorrow too. What a combination for some.

Still no snow in Rutland...looks like we"ll just have ice.

InMySpareTime · 12/01/2017 19:22

The Manchester Snow Shieldâ„¢ is holding Sad.
It's plenty cold enough, but the sky is clear, with stars out and all.
To make it even worse, the met forecast has moved the snow warning over even more of Manchester, getting my hopes up only to dash them...

RigbySM · 12/01/2017 19:23

Still snowing hard here (north Essex) settling too!

QueenieGoldstein · 12/01/2017 19:32

And it's all stopped. No snow, nothing Sad

CointreauVersial · 12/01/2017 19:35

Snow tailing off, but back garden looks very pretty - a good few cms (Surrey).
DH still hasn't made it home from work (12 mile journey); NDN had to abandon his car a mile out of the village and walk home.

Snow watch.
PinkBunnyOnesieOnOrder · 12/01/2017 19:38

It stopped very quickly here too. 11 yo took some photos though, so she's sufficiently chuffed, for now. I get the impression she thinks it'll snow all weekend, I'm not diabusing her of the notion.

Central South East here...between Reading & Chineham - are we likely to get any tomorrow or the weekend oh wise one?

Surprised at how much the wind is kicking up! V blowy

LIZS · 12/01/2017 20:04

It has eased off now. Wet and slushy roads which will be lethal if it freezes.

DameDeDoubtance · 12/01/2017 20:21

Slushy rain now, lovely while it lasted and dd had an hour out throwing snowballs.

booface · 12/01/2017 20:34

a good couple of centimetres in west kent. Youngest has made a snowman and been out sledging as don't know how long it will last. Usual chaos on ungritted roads, cars abandoned etc. I think rush hour tomorrow will be a nightmare here when it all turns to ice, and then a little more snow predicted.

If you love snow and didn't get any today, hope you get some soon
