Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

Excellent LadyFlumpalot. Hows the wind and temp doing?

southsea, I'd be a little surprised if you got snow in Portsmouth. You might get some sleet mid evening.

Just drven through heavy hail showers here in south cheshire...down to 3 degrees from 5 this morning.....& going dark!....

BlueKarou · 12/01/2017 15:46

Listening to the rain in West Berks. Suddenly got very dark here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 15:48

Temp dropped by another degree. Good.

North east here. It's 2 degrees with blue skies and sunshine. Kids are disappointed.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 12/01/2017 15:48

Just done the school run. Heavy rain on my way there. Heavy hail while waiting for the dc & when they were coming out that lasted about 10 minutes. Then back to rain while waiting for nursery to open & on the walk home. Garden thermometer is reading 3.5°c down from around 7°c at 9am.

mypinkmonkey · 12/01/2017 15:50

Well I'm heading off! Wish me luck - I will report back later. I feel very intrepid which is completely nuts as its only raining at the moment. Hope the play is worth all this angst! Grin

basketofironing · 12/01/2017 15:51

Raining fairly heavily in SW Essex. Hoping any freezing temps/snow hold off until after OH is home as he has to drive uphill along a few lanes that are dangerous enough in dry, warm weather.
Looking out west over London, the sky looks very black and heavy though.

LadyFlumpalot · 12/01/2017 15:52

It's quite windy here and the temp is 2. I drive home via (sod it, I'll put myself) Shaftesbury and they have definite snowflakes. Wet, but definitely snow. Two minutes down the hill and back to sleet.

myoriginal3 · 12/01/2017 15:53

Pissing rain in east London. One great big black cloud overhead too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 15:54

Thats really helpful - you are our advance guard! One of the latest models is very marginal for much of the south. I'm hoping it is wrong. Partly beacuse if we get snow, then that will be eaiser than trying to cope with sheer ice tomorrow morning.

basketofironing · 12/01/2017 15:54

myoriginal that must be the cloud I can see approaching from my back window!!

LadyFlumpalot · 12/01/2017 15:56

Shaftesbury seems to have its own unique little micro-climate. Often in winter they have a dusting of snow and we have just solid rain.

I don't have a proper thermometer so I've nicked the one out of the fish tank and suckered it to the outside of the kitchen window 😂

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 15:56

Excellent work!

Am watching the MetReading data; temp is dropping!

LadyFlumpalot · 12/01/2017 16:03

My dads an ex forecaster and he reckons the main risk here is going to be ice, DS's headmistress was making noises about closing the school tomorrow because of it. But then we are really quite rural and the school is only accessible down tiny roads.

Just because it's pretty, here's a picture of the view from our road during the last bout of freezing fog...

Snow watch.
NigellasGuest · 12/01/2017 16:04

Thanks for the link OYBBK!

Would love snow here! Still grey drizzle at the moment. Had a text from the local authority - copied and Pasted:
Heavy snowfall and freezing conditions are predicted. For updates on any disruption caused to your waste collections, visit blah blah

Southsearocks · 12/01/2017 16:05

sigh Sad

Southsearocks · 12/01/2017 16:06

Wind is picking up....

fatsatsuma · 12/01/2017 16:13

north oxon, suddenly got very windy and squally about 10 mins ago and the rain has turned to sleet/fine snow which is just beginning to settle. I guess this is the arrival of the cold front?

ScuttlbuttHarpy · 12/01/2017 16:13

Well according to the met, my area will get ice tomorrow.....hope you all have a lovely time frolicking in the snow. Please post pictures.

Howyoualldoworkme · 12/01/2017 16:15

I'm just over the hill from you Southsea and it's turning very icy

jazzandh · 12/01/2017 16:17

Mid Kent pouring rain and 4 degrees

Southsearocks · 12/01/2017 16:20

Snow! Well, sleet really.
