Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

You know, I think I'd go for it if I had something special going on in London. Even when we got buckets of snow in 2010 and all of the traffic completely gridlocked, we still managed to get a train home from olympia.
But don't hate me if you end up sleeping in Paddington overnight Grin

south Nigella. have a look here we are in the warm sector at the moment, but as the developing low moves ne across our area we come into the colder air shown by the line with triangles to our south.
It's all still very marginal at the moment and many may not see snow, but I'm hopeful.

Miserable here (Leicester) with steady rain 3.7C
Few snow reports coming in on uksnowmap.

slalomsuki · 12/01/2017 14:31

West kids here and it's just started snowing heavily after lost of rain earlier. I'm hoping the ground is too wet for it to lie.

pinkieandperkie · 12/01/2017 14:32

Raining for the last couple of hours in Sussex.

Perihelion · 12/01/2017 14:36

Proper snow in Edinburgh now GrinGrinGrin

altkat · 12/01/2017 14:36

Snowing here in Edinburgh! Not settling yet but I live in hope (warm flat and nowhere scheduled to goGrin plus excuse to mull cider).

That is a picture for proof but it turns out its hard to photograph snow.

Snow watch.

Light snow in Shropshire near the Welsh border.A almost instant change from Rain to sleety snow and then straight away heavy snow at 1.45.Its now the equivalent of snow drizzle.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 14:39

excellent Teta!

Mildish and wet here near Sittingbourne.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 14:46

It does seem hard to imagine at the moment that things could drastically change in a bit. Along the cold front winds will be very squally, so it could be quite exciting - possibly!

Raining steadily here (N Essex)

No idea on temp, will see when I start the car

Stokey · 12/01/2017 14:48

Thanks for the link Gloria

I was trying to find London specific data - just I don't remember snow lying here since March/April 2013 & then only a little & was wondering in general how common it was.

The Guardian had done something over Christmas with Met Office data about how often you get white christmases - but I couldn;t see anything on Met office site. Probably have to pay for it.

Rain, rain, rain in London, hoping temperature will fall

RigbySM · 12/01/2017 14:48

Temp is 4, down from 6 this morning so it's falling!

Tinkletwinkle · 12/01/2017 14:52

Heavy rain turned to heavy snow earlier here in Staffordshire, its now sleet but at 2 degrees I think more snow will come.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/01/2017 15:04

agghh they have taken away our overnight snow.

LadyFlumpalot · 12/01/2017 15:05

Now definite sleet in North Dorset.

LadyFlumpalot · 12/01/2017 15:06

Sitting in the car bracing myself for the school run. Have hand warmers in my pockets and my DD is fully kitted out in full Mountain Warehouse coat and trousers. 😂

4andout · 12/01/2017 15:07

Raining steadily for a few hours in Surrey Hills. Temp hasn't changed much as was 6c at 1pm and now 5.5c at 3pm. I'd love loads of snow but dh working in London until 11pm. Really don't want a nightmare journey from the rail station to home at Midnight!

I can see north downs from my window (run along behind our village) and it has disappeared in cloud, but it has done that for most of the winter so far!

Southsearocks · 12/01/2017 15:15

Raining heavily in Portsmouth. I'm sceptical.....

Ohtobeskiing · 12/01/2017 15:23

Heavy rain in mid-Hampshire.

Lorelei76 · 12/01/2017 15:33

heavy rain here and quite mild. Fingers crossed they're talking rubbish....

PinkBunnyOnesieOnOrder · 12/01/2017 15:33

Big Fat Rain Drops here in Reading. Waiting to collect child from school, then after school clubs etc, not home until 9pm. Lots of waiting around innthe xar firvsaid child, this is not gong to be fun! But the child will love it if it's snowing as we drive around and she'll plan the snowmen ☃️☃️ she's going to build at the weekend. There's no telling her 😁

mistykins · 12/01/2017 15:38

I'm in the Scottish Borders and we've had heavy snow all day. There's lots of snow for the kids to play in.

slalomsuki · 12/01/2017 15:39

All gone now and the sun is coming out from the west.
