Early early days and the models have been teasing us for a good couple of weeks now but we might be starting to get some model consistency. I've been holding off from saying anything in case we scare it away for good.

Massive caveat - amateur forecaster, often get it wrong yadda yadda. Please dont plan anything based on this thread.

GFS starts to show the european high pressure drift atlantic-wards next week, drawing in cold air. By next weekend we are showing a reasonable amount of potential with the upper air looking cold enough to support snow and less settled weather than at present.

Alas though, it only seems to last the weekend at present. But at the moment Friday is the day to keep your eye on.

Just had a wee flurry which seemed totally weird as there was blue sky above us.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 13:08

I'm in central southern England and so far the rain is lighter than I've expected too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 13:14

Raining lightly in London. No sign of snow yet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 13:19

few hours to go fox before your chance might come. I'd guess anytime after six pm to around eight pm.

Ipad isn't allowing me to type numbers or anything on that keyboard!

OYBBK, Any predictions on what Saturday is going to be like? I'm in the same area as you and have a 80 mile round trip to do, mostly motorway. It'll be fine by then, right?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 13:25

On Saturday we might see some light snow first thing, with ice too. A cold day - further east down through EA snow could be a problem again.

I'm meant to be going to London later for social reasons. Am I mad? Am I going to get trapped trying to get home at 9-10pm with no trains? I'm South of London.

SortAllTheThings · 12/01/2017 13:38

thanks Cake

1happyhippie · 12/01/2017 13:39

We have just had a pretty heavy hail stones down pour. It was over almost as quick as it started. The sky was looking quite dark befor that, it's pretty bright now.
The temp is just above freezing here. We are in Cumbria.

DesolateWaist · 12/01/2017 13:51

I'm in EA with a class full of young children who haven't seen snow that they can really remember. (I'm on PPA at the moment). They are very excited. I hope we do get snow.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 12/01/2017 13:52

Raining here at the moment - Surrey/Hants border. Snow due about 6 according to forecast which is an hour later than this morning.

myoriginal3 · 12/01/2017 13:56

It's going to be very icy if it does snow and freeze as ground is so wet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 14:00

exciting Hippie! instability is getting going :)

bodly, where are you getting your timings from? I'd still expect it around 5pm.

IWanna, I'd still go, just wrap up for the station on the way home and be prepared to be patient. Rail is amazingly resilient in this weather.

It is heavy rain here in Bournemouth at the moment and it's got colder.

NigellasGuest · 12/01/2017 14:03

Just a bit of drizzle here in the Chilterns

mypinkmonkey · 12/01/2017 14:03

I have a similar dilemma Iwanna I have theatre tickets for the National and I live in surrey. I think I will get there ok but will I get home? Not helped by my DH who has a rather gung-ho approach and thinks we should just 'go for it'!

ChasedByBees · 12/01/2017 14:06

Drizzle in Oxfordshire too.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 12/01/2017 14:16

Still steady rain here but noticeably colder, I'd say by 2 or 3 degrees.

RatOnnaStick · 12/01/2017 14:19

On-off drizzle and mild still in Kent. At least, I don't feel the need to put the heating on yet. If the heavy rain can hold off until DH is home at 6ish I will be happy, and if snow flurries (not expecting more than that) can arrive by 8pm then DS1 will be ecstatic. His bedtime is 7.30 but I did say he can watch snow for a bit if there is any.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 14:21

A fair bit of sleet showing now over northern Wales on my weather pro app. Is there anyone there to verify that?

Temp dropping slowly at present, when the cold front goes through it will drop much more rapidly.

Iwannasnack · 12/01/2017 14:23

It's the getting home isn't it pink!

WordWeasel · 12/01/2017 14:24

Drizzle in West Berks. I want a blizzard!

NigellasGuest · 12/01/2017 14:25

OYBBK - where is the cold front at the moment?
