Aurora klaxon at Abisko - it's just starting up on this pic.

False alarm - it's been rubbish the last couple of hours.

am pretty much halfway between Dundee and Aberdeen, right by the breezy North Sea

We had a fabulous show here in Feb 2014, that was the first time we saw it properly, and I have been hooked ever since, it was almost top to bottom across the sky and right around east to west...totally amazing.

Missed a lot recently due to the clouds and fog, but Wednesday was almost completely unexpected, all quiet on the aurora groups and then it all kicked off with photos being posted!! :o Just a couple of folks looking out, or coming home thinking "that sky looks interesting....."

Oh, that's tantalising Bunbaker.

This is Sodankyla in Finland just now. There's only a hint of aurora, but I really like the snowy fir trees ranged around the fisheye lens at this location.

Lovely clear skies too. We could be in for a good night.

Bunbaker · 22/11/2015 19:55

Why is the Abisko station still showing daylight?

RomComPhooey · 22/11/2015 19:57

It often looks that way when the moon is approaching the fullest part of the moon phase. The moon is currently 87% full. I think the camera must be set up for sensitivity to light.

More action at Abisko now

GloriaSmud · 28/11/2015 09:08

I keep checking on the webcams for aurora but 'tis all a bit quiet at the moment Sad with not a lot of sunspot activity either.

Quiet sun, fullish moon Sad

Bunbaker · 28/11/2015 20:19

It's kicking off in Kiruna

Thanks Bunbaker.

I've been keeping an eye on Abisko for the last few days and it's been mostly miserable/rubbish, but there have been a couple of really striking ones in the last hour or so - very bright and showy, mind. Ta da!

I keep thinking how glad I am that I haven't dropped a couple of grand taking me, DH and the kids to "see the lights" at Abisko in the last couple of weeks - it's been really dull, so I feel sorry for people who have.

GloriaSmud · 01/12/2015 21:06

Looks like it might be a good night for aurora watching ~ Abisko's looking good at the moment.

Just picked this up at Abisko - it is intermittently cloudy, but there is definitely activity there this evening.

Some Southern lights have been seen. (I do like the pretty picture on Spaceweather's site there ~ sort of thing I'd have on my wall at home!)

Slight hint of green at Abisko earlier but not a lot showing at the moment.

It's trying again this evening, though rather half-heartedly.

GloriaSmud · 04/12/2015 22:56

Looking better now!
