The UK won’t get totality but depending on where you are, 80-90% of the sun should be covered. More info here.
Let’s hope for clear skies!

Not having much luck with my pinhole camera yet despite the bright sunshine.

meglet · 20/03/2015 08:53

what I want to know is are the birds doing anything? are they heading back to roost?

Cloudy here in Somerset, but it's getting darker. It's quite a strange type of light quality

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 20/03/2015 08:56

Oh - and the sparrows are chirping away and using the feeders as normal

BertieBotts · 20/03/2015 08:56

It's started in South Germany :) Bright enough here that I've set up the pinhole in DS' bedroom and he was having fun projecting the sun onto his hands. It's really clear! Shame we don't have glasses.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2015 08:57

For those of us who are just descending into cloudy gloom: watch it here

Raahh · 20/03/2015 08:57

I'm in South Manchester, near the airport, and about 12 miles fro Jodrell Bank where the BBC are doing their stargazing programme from.Star It is quite cloudy.

I had to smile at the woman who just went into the BP garage in front of me to see if they sold glasses- bit late now!

And I laughed when poor ds went to buy foil to make his pinhole camera- and came back with cling filmGrin

PrincessOfChina · 20/03/2015 08:58

Hazy sunshine here in South Birmingham. I had a decent view when I adjusted the kitchen blinds (not sure it's a recommended way of viewing!) so we're heading out now with pinhole viewers and a colinder in a minute.

Raahh · 20/03/2015 09:00

ooh- just turned tv on, and Jodrell looks a bit clearer than here. I love Jodrell Bank.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2015 09:00

and now eclipse live

AlternativeTentacles · 20/03/2015 09:01

Sunny here in the midlands. I am going to put my camera on 'film' and set it up so that I can film the canal at the end of my garden and what nature does [if anything] as it happens...Just off now to set up!

GloriaSmud · 20/03/2015 09:02

Hazy sunshine here.
Just half watching StargazingLive and at the Faroe Islands (where totality is supposed to happen), it's looking awful ~ all foggy and cloudy Sad

Total cloud here, not even a glimmer of brightness (Hants/Surrey borders)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2015 09:04

ok, I've worked out the optimal viewing for those of us in total cloud :(

sky news for a continuous picture on one tab with bbc on another tab for inane commentary.

Not much I know! Last photo was much the same. Not sure why it didn't post.

half the sky (the wrong half) is quite sunny here

bah !

I can see the sun obscured through my solar glasses though Smile

GloriaSmud · 20/03/2015 09:09

Temperature's dropped here ~ we had a high of 8.8C at 8.19am and now it's 6.9C (Leicester)

Quite cloudy here in Liverpool though the sun just broke through as I walked back from school drop off. DS has been promised a viewing of Eclipse Live with popcorn over the weekend. Not sure what the school are doing.

Raahh · 20/03/2015 09:12

Alternative- that could be really interesting. I remember the eerie feeling in 1999 when the birds went quiet.

PurplePITA · 20/03/2015 09:14

Sad Sad Sad. It's sooooo cloudy.

OwlCapone · 20/03/2015 09:15

I am unable to see where the sun should be at all! I have a vague idea of where it is meant to be but there is not even a faint hazy shape.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 20/03/2015 09:15

Disappointed that our sky is a sheet of grey. There's been little sun this week and the sky's been suffering the combination of hazy local smog and continental toxic air pollution that's been affecting the south east Sad

At least it's the first day of Spring and there's plenty of footage on the TV and websites.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2015 09:15

Cloud cover is keeping the temp at 4c here. Lighting is going a bit orangey.

ScouseQueen · 20/03/2015 09:16

So do I, though have just stepped outside and they're tweeting away like mad here so far..
