The UK won’t get totality but depending on where you are, 80-90% of the sun should be covered. More info here.
Let’s hope for clear skies!

Halloweeny ~ excellent picture.
Slightly brighter here ~ temperature down to 5.8C. It's like a sunset but with the light coming from the wrong direction.

Also, what was weird was it started out like an upside down crescent, like a smile, it is now like a backwards moon (sideways crescent). There are probably technical terms for all of this!

GloriaSmud · 20/03/2015 09:48

BBC pictures were/are amazing.

newbie I find it a bit moving. It also makes me remember the last eclipse when I was sitting in a field when the darkness came over. The darkness wasn't so strong this time where we are, as really only 80% but it definitely was much colder and much gloomier and this has now lifted and the sun come out. It is magic in the sense of exciting!

velmadinkly · 20/03/2015 09:55

I also makes me feel emotional because it makes you realise how insignificant we all are compared to the wider universe. I don't know how atronaunts aren't blubbering wrecks when they get that first view of the earth from space.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/03/2015 09:56

It's too dim to see through the glasses and there's no way you could use a colander or pinhole but occasionally the lower level cloud is thinning enough that you can see the outline of the sun through all the other levels of cloud.

Lovely out to the west though. Big patches of blue sky Envy

BrainyMess · 20/03/2015 09:57

In 1999 I was in Cornwall and was really cloudly that day. V disapointing.

Today Manchester holds the crown!

Look at these pics from all over
Manchester!
I've got loads like them!

Mancs usually gloomy as f@ck but it came good on the right day!

Effii · 20/03/2015 09:57

Was able to look at it through the clouds. Best one for me was Melbourne mid seventies.

AnyFucker · 20/03/2015 09:58

badkitten I had a little sob too at the pics of totality

very moving and the female presenter was a very good choice

we are on the other "side" now and the clouds have parted...some really good views through my solar glasses

AnyFucker · 20/03/2015 09:59

oh no ! Eclipse Live is ending. Whhhyyyy ?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/03/2015 10:00

We are near Glasgow, and the clouds thinned at just the right time. At some points, there was a screen of cloud across the sun, but the eclipse showed through, as clear as anything, but the cloud meant it wasn't too bright to glance at.

We also watched the reflection in the kitchen window.

It's passed over now, but it was really fascinating. Ds3 isn't in school until after lunch (final year, free periods) so he gpgot up and watched it with me, but has now sloped off back to bed - lazy article!

I've been feeling odd all morning, I know I can also get a bit funny sometimes when there's a full moon. maybe I'm a werewolf

The pics from the plane were amazing,

Stargazing live is on again tonight at 9 on BBC2 and they just said there will be more analysis including the 'prominence' or eruptions from the sun.

Amazing to see also how fast the moon moves too.

The lady on the plane just said how moving she found it, also images of how dark it got in the Faroe isles. Maybe it's like they just said, it's one of the few times we're reminded of just how amazing it is that we are even here and that we are on a ball of rock hurtling through space.

Must admit, I imagined it would get darker than it did.

Xxx

Thenapoleonofcrime · 20/03/2015 10:01

It's not over yet here, still see the chunk out of the Sun, could have done with another 30 min coverage on BBC!

goshdarnit · 20/03/2015 10:02

Here in Somerset, it's a hazy day, so strangely we were able to get a good view of the eclipse as the sun was diffused through the clouds.
The light was strange, like early dawn in the middle of the morning.

Another one that felt quite emotional!Grin
In 1999, I had a tiny little boy and stood with him in our conservatory showing him the shadows refracted through the tomato plant leaves, and the floor was covered in crescents. The boy has no recollection, but it was a special moment for me!

ginmakesitallok · 20/03/2015 10:08

Sun too bright for my phone, but can see reflection below. It was very dark!

That was fab Grin

Only noticed it was going darker when I went inside to check the time and realised that is was darker than it should be for the Sun to be that high in the sky. The colander as a multipul pinhole camera was great too.

Have just taken DD into school to find out that her class were in the playground watching it too. Must have decided on the basis of sunny skies....

AlternativeTentacles · 20/03/2015 10:16

I took pics through some filters, and of the reflection in the canal not of the actual sky...

we saw it. we were at school stupidly early, and waited and waited for the cloud to clear. we saw the pinhole completely circularbefore it started then a crescent then the darkness through the school hall window. then I saw the pinhole crescent going the other way.

I have fired up the computer in time to see totallity on the live feed.

hopefully the children saw it too.

That was fantastic! Gloriously bright and sunny morning. It was very bizarre how the temperature plummeted and the birds stopped tweeting.

We looked through colanders and took turns to share special glasses.

Birds started tweeting again at about 9:45 and it feels much warmer again now.

GloriaSmud · 20/03/2015 10:44

Just watched the last tiny bit of the moon clear the sun.
Even though the temperature's up to 9.5C, it's still a bit chilly out (one of the things I remember from the 1999 eclipse was that the temperature took a long time to recover.)

Sad. That was so dissapointing. It just went gloomy and that was all. I was so excited about it too and had rearranged my day especially.

Biscuit 's all round.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 20/03/2015 15:14

FunMitFags where did you see it from?

FunMitFlags · 20/03/2015 15:46

East Midlands. It has been a beautiful sunny day here.
