I'm starting this discussion because I was in danger of hijacking the Icelandic volcano thread. I started using the Mila Icelandic webcams to watch the eruption at Holoraun (the Bardabunga webcams), but lately I've seen the aurora borealis quite a few times on the other webcams, particularly the Thingvellir webcam www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/thingvellir/, although the lights can be seen sometimes on the Hekla and Jokulsarlon ones.

Another OP posted a link to the Hotel Ranga aurora cam, which is here: www.hotelranga.is/northern-lights/northern-light-webcam/

I am posting a couple of pics below for comparison to get you started. The first is a lovely aurora shot at Thingvellir from September, then a more blurry one from last night and a normal dark evening shot.

If you can find any other lovely aurora cams please post links (and pics) below. Happy hunting!

Aurora showing nicely here and the skies are beginning to clear as well. There's a good Aurora forecast as well so hopefully there's going to be a good display tonight.

I think tonight's Aurora has been the best I've seen since the thread started! And over the weekend, there are clear-ish skies forecast at last for Iceland so hopefully some good displays coming up

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/11/2014 23:25

That's very cool :)
If I had spare cash I would be on a flight to iceland to view the eruption and the aurora.

Wow, the last 30 min stream is amazing - they've had a terrific show. Do you think the locals find it about as interesting as a rain shower or do you think they watch too?

PseudoBadger · 15/11/2014 09:37

Tonight's whole night video should be good

PseudoBadger · 15/11/2014 09:38

X post! The 30 minute video has such bright flashes, it's wonderful.
I reckon if they glance up they appreciate it but don't make time to watch.

NOAA talk of a possible solar storm on the 16th:
"NORTHERN LIGHTS: NOAA forecasters estimate a 55% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on Nov. 16th when a co-rotating interaction region (CIR) is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field. CIRs are transition zones between fast and slow solar wind streams. Solar wind plasma piles up in these regions, producing density gradients and shock waves that do a good job of sparking auroras."

Darkening skies on the EU cams now. Porjus looks like a bust again tonight - non-stop cloud the last few days. Good to see the aurora forecast levels cranking up to amber.

Signing in and settling down in the armchair for the late afternoon/evening shift of Aurora watching. Þingvellir has clearish skies but the Aurora forecast looks like it might cloud over then clear again about midnight. Looks like North Finland might be good again if the cloud clears ~ not sure if that's a hint of green through the clouds at the moment.

GloriaSmud · 15/11/2014 16:14

There are some lovely sunset skies on most of the Icelandic webcams at the moment.

DustBunnyFarmer · 15/11/2014 16:14

Iceland in range tonight too - I'll keep an eye on the Thingvellir and Hotel Ranga cameras tonight, even though the resolution is crap.

Agreed Gloria. I took one of Gullfoss because it's such a pretty pink.

Lovely views on the Hekla camera too. (Will save the rest of my picture ration now for the aurora.)

I just tried to do a picture of Hekla but need more practise! It is looking very pretty with the pink clouds.

DustBunnyFarmer · 15/11/2014 16:30

Think you might be right about the North Finland (Utjotski) camera, Gloria - strengthening glow on the horizon.
