I'm starting this discussion because I was in danger of hijacking the Icelandic volcano thread. I started using the Mila Icelandic webcams to watch the eruption at Holoraun (the Bardabunga webcams), but lately I've seen the aurora borealis quite a few times on the other webcams, particularly the Thingvellir webcam www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/thingvellir/, although the lights can be seen sometimes on the Hekla and Jokulsarlon ones.

Another OP posted a link to the Hotel Ranga aurora cam, which is here: www.hotelranga.is/northern-lights/northern-light-webcam/

I am posting a couple of pics below for comparison to get you started. The first is a lovely aurora shot at Thingvellir from September, then a more blurry one from last night and a normal dark evening shot.

If you can find any other lovely aurora cams please post links (and pics) below. Happy hunting!

They are the summer home of the Icelandic president. Lucky bugger. We were lucky enough to see the Aurora twice when we were in Iceland during half term.

The first night they were amazing but a very pale mint green. We watched for about half an hour while they danced.

Having serious Iceland withdrawals and have felt likeSad since I got back.

Me too, although it didn't really get dark when we were there, so no aurora.

Oooh yes, faint green curtain on the horizon in the Finnish camera with the brazier in the foreground.

OP posts:
DustBunnyFarmer · 12/11/2014 20:58

Not so faint now!

Not the right night for Aurora spotting on the Icelandic webcams but lovely green colour on the Finnish one.

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/11/2014 21:40

Faint green glow on that Porjus camera too - you know, the one that looks like it's overlooking a car park.

Proper curtain lights on Porjus now. For some reason, I'm not allowed to post any more pictures. Am I rationed?

Now I can - hurrah!

Oh yes ~ the Porjus one is very pretty. Is that a faint green glow along the top curve of the Kiruna one?

GloriaSmud · 12/11/2014 21:53

Kiruna developed it's Aurora while I was posting ~ it's really bright now!

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/11/2014 21:53

Yes, I saw the glow on Kiruna. I have a lovely picture of the Porjus one but it won't let me post pictures at the mo. Am screen shotting for posterity.

Glow on the horizon now on the Sodankylä fisheye lens too. Busy, busy, busy tonight.

GloriaSmud · 12/11/2014 22:07

And the Aurora's back on the North Finland one as well ~ looking spectacular at the moment.

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/11/2014 22:09

Fantastic show on the Utjoski camera at www.aurora-service.eu/sky-cameras/ at the mo. I really envy the tourists in the foreground who are on an aurora watching holiday at the cabins just off camera - the brazier and shelter are there specifically to allow warm/sheltered aurora viewing.

Sorry, life is a bit mad at the moment.

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/11/2014 22:25

No worries BadKitten. We can take snaps and post the good stuff for you, for when you are less busy.

Thanks Grin that is one cool picture!

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/11/2014 17:20

Clear skies at Porjus at the mo & last signs of the setting sun. Fingers crossed.

Damn. Shooting star on Sodankyla fisheye but it refreshed before I could screen shot.

Something starting on the edge of the Sodankyla fisheye sky camera right now.
