I'm starting this discussion because I was in danger of hijacking the Icelandic volcano thread. I started using the Mila Icelandic webcams to watch the eruption at Holoraun (the Bardabunga webcams), but lately I've seen the aurora borealis quite a few times on the other webcams, particularly the Thingvellir webcam www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/thingvellir/, although the lights can be seen sometimes on the Hekla and Jokulsarlon ones.

Another OP posted a link to the Hotel Ranga aurora cam, which is here: www.hotelranga.is/northern-lights/northern-light-webcam/

I am posting a couple of pics below for comparison to get you started. The first is a lovely aurora shot at Thingvellir from September, then a more blurry one from last night and a normal dark evening shot.

If you can find any other lovely aurora cams please post links (and pics) below. Happy hunting!

It does seem to be stuck ~ I think it gives a 'New' message in the corner when it's got a new photo and it isn't going that.

Aurora at Porjus, though it's hard to tell with all that pesky moonlight everywhere.

Abisko seems to be back to updating, but is a grey, gloomy fuzz tonight - might as well have not bothered!

Tromso busy. Everywhere else a bust tonight at the mo.

There's a pretty good Aurora forecast, (including an 'Active' forecast tonight and a 'High' one for tomorrow for Iceland.) Hopefully things will pick up on all webcams later on.
Strange light at Þingvellir at the moment. Is it down to Aurora, the moon, snow reflection or all 3?! (the Icelandic webcams seem to have a problem connecting at the moment, which doesn't help things at all!)

DustBunnyFarmer · 04/01/2015 16:00

Gloria - Aurora Service is predicting very high Kp readings at the moment (4.5), so we should have a reasonable show tonight where there are clear skies.

Muonio camera is off to a good start, but most of the others are cloudy. Bah humbug!

Despite a not great forecast, there's fairly good Aurora on most of the webcams ~ one from Abisko at the moment.

Thanks for posting Gloria - I'm pleased to see Abisko is "unstuck" again. I find it so annoying when we aren't getting updates.

North Finland have tourists tonight!

GloriaSmud · 05/01/2015 19:27

Talking of stuck cameras ~ Svalbard's been stuck on 23rd December for a while!

DustBunnyFarmer · 05/01/2015 21:02

I noticed that this morning, Gloria. It's the original site too (I checked).

It's a shame Kilpisjarvi is black & white and such crap resolution, as it looks like there is a lot going on there at the mo.

Nice gentle green colour at North Finland. (I was going to add the tourists have turned in early but then realised that it's after 11pm Finnish time and they've probably had a long day travelling if they arrived today!)

I've just had an AuroraWatch Amber Alert for the UK after an unexpected geogmagnetic storm. Might be some excellent Aurora on the webcams and for the UK as well tonight!

PseudoBadger · 07/01/2015 11:44

Current situation. Alaska cams are looking good today.

Thanks both for the heads up. Not much doing on the Northern Lights Camera site tonight, but lovely clear skies at Abisko. I'm glad their camera is up again & will keep an eye out for any good pics/will post them.

I have decided I like the 'falling curtain' effect best of all - especially the lovely pink/purple ones posted upthread after the last solar storm. This one's a bit more muted, but still lovely.
