I'm starting this discussion because I was in danger of hijacking the Icelandic volcano thread. I started using the Mila Icelandic webcams to watch the eruption at Holoraun (the Bardabunga webcams), but lately I've seen the aurora borealis quite a few times on the other webcams, particularly the Thingvellir webcam www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/thingvellir/, although the lights can be seen sometimes on the Hekla and Jokulsarlon ones.

Another OP posted a link to the Hotel Ranga aurora cam, which is here: www.hotelranga.is/northern-lights/northern-light-webcam/

I am posting a couple of pics below for comparison to get you started. The first is a lovely aurora shot at Thingvellir from September, then a more blurry one from last night and a normal dark evening shot.

If you can find any other lovely aurora cams please post links (and pics) below. Happy hunting!

Looking lovely at Porjus tonight.

whereabouts are you Dustbunny....on your scottish jaunt?

I'm midway between Aberdeen/Dundee, and we had another glow last night.....it was mainly camera visible though, just a greyish arc to the naked eye.

You could be lucky! Skies were amazing though, last night and C.Eve, no moon and full of stars.

DustBunnyFarmer · 26/12/2014 13:33

Not that far north, Cats, sadly. It is very overcast here now - we are under the snow weather warning area.

CatsClaus · 26/12/2014 13:37

have you got a sledge?? :o I'd love some snow!

DustBunnyFarmer · 26/12/2014 13:42

We have a sledge at home - 4 hours' drive away. We'll be heading off after breakfast tomorrow so could do without the snow TBH.

oh it's a bugger if you have somewhere to be....safe journey.

DustBunnyFarmer · 28/12/2014 19:49

It's a lovely clear night at Abisko and things have picked up nicely over the last half hour.

Missed all the activity again ~ Porjus was looking lovely as well.
Nice to see the North Finland one working with a clear view ~ it seems to have had the snow wiped off it!

PseudoBadger · 29/12/2014 14:41

Great photos

JillJ72 · 29/12/2014 21:54

DH and DS in Scotland; aurora activity tonight, hoping they get to see it....

DustBunnyFarmer · 29/12/2014 22:14

If they get pictures, can you share Jill? I am very envious.

DustBunnyFarmer · 29/12/2014 22:16

All of our usual cameras are a complete bust tonight. I noticed that the aurora alerts tend to also cover Greenland when they are giving us a good show in Finland, Norway and Sweden. I'm going to see if I can track down some sky cams there.

JillJ72 · 29/12/2014 22:30

Dustbunnyfarmer they haven't got decent cameras with them, so unfortunately no photos; it's also cloudy so visibility is patchy but they have seen v faint traces.

DustBunnyFarmer · 29/12/2014 22:35

So jealous, but pleased someone is getting to see them.

Yes.... not me!!! Or you! Live this one vicariously through others, that's the answer. Thank goodness for t'interweb!

DustBunnyFarmer · 30/12/2014 23:11

There is some aurora activity tonight, but the sky is very bright with a nearly full moon. A couple of months into this thread, I find myself getting choosy and thinking they aren't good enough to post. Fancy that! Roll on the new moon and the dark skies in a couple of weeks.

We're off to an early start with the Aurora at North Finland this evening.

You beat me to it, Gloria. A smudge of green on the horizon at Porjus already too.

I have to go out for a new year's eve party tonight, so anyone that's about please post pictures of any good stuff on the cameras that don't back up. I will be checking when I get in before I go to bed.

DustBunnyFarmer · 31/12/2014 16:20

I forgot to say - there are tourists at the North Finland cabins this week. I spotted them checking out the shelter this afternoon in daylight.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 31/12/2014 16:32

Will try to check in and post a few pictures, DustBunny (having a bit of a get together with my family as it's my Dad's birthday today.) I thought I saw someone at the cabins a few minutes ago so hope they get a good display tonight.
Have a good party and 'see' you in 2015!

DustBunnyFarmer · 31/12/2014 16:41

Thanks Gloria. I'll be knocking around a while longer, as the party doesn't start until 8. Also, I'm not sure how long our kids will last once we get there, so it might be a relatively early night. We'll see.

And we are off!

Pretty sunrise at Porjus.

Has the Abisko camera been "stuck" on a daylight shot for anyone else since yesterday, or just me? I might need to clear out my cookies and reload the page.
