I'm starting this discussion because I was in danger of hijacking the Icelandic volcano thread. I started using the Mila Icelandic webcams to watch the eruption at Holoraun (the Bardabunga webcams), but lately I've seen the aurora borealis quite a few times on the other webcams, particularly the Thingvellir webcam www.livefromiceland.is/webcams/thingvellir/, although the lights can be seen sometimes on the Hekla and Jokulsarlon ones.

Another OP posted a link to the Hotel Ranga aurora cam, which is here: www.hotelranga.is/northern-lights/northern-light-webcam/

I am posting a couple of pics below for comparison to get you started. The first is a lovely aurora shot at Thingvellir from September, then a more blurry one from last night and a normal dark evening shot.

If you can find any other lovely aurora cams please post links (and pics) below. Happy hunting!

Terrific show at Abisko right now. The Tromso camera is also saturated with green lights.

There is even activity on the Svalbard camera right now.

It's nice to see Aurora on the other cameras ~ Tromso has been excellent the last few nights. Still not a lot on the North Finland one though.
Unusual greenish tinge at Þingvellir from behind the clouds at the moment.

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/12/2014 21:35

Well spotted, Gloria - I agree it is just gearing up there. Worth keeping an eye on as the evening progresses.

Damn. I really wish they'd fix the Porjus camera - I bet it's lovely tonight. I also think that things are picking up on the North Finland camera.

Unusual light on the North Finland one at the moment.
Abisko can always be relied on for a good show ~ spotted this one from earlier.

I think there must be cloud cover. The sky has lightened, but it is very diffuse.

Svalbard and Tromso are really bright tonight - Svalbard has particularly picked up in the last hour.

That's lovely Gloria

Lovely screen grab just now.
Kiruna also has some lights.

Ha, Badger! Did you get caught out by the auto-refresh on that webcam page too? I line up a screen shot & then it shifts just as I am taking the shot.

Rain has cleared now on the Kiruna cam and the lights are getting busy.

Watch the night's movie from Alaska - it's been a good one

GloriaSmud · 15/12/2014 16:18

Oh wow, Pseudo, that's lovely ~ sort of starts quietly and builds to something amazing!
There's already Aurora at Svalbard, Tromso and Abisko this evening with a good forecast as well. I'm keeping an eye on Iceland ~ there's a 'moderate' forecast there along with clearish skies for the early part of the evening but it's forecast to cloud over later.

PseudoBadger · 15/12/2014 16:33

You may or may not have noticed that since 19/20th November the 'whole night' video has been spliced on to the start of the video - which is weird until you get used to it Xmas Confused

GloriaSmud · 15/12/2014 18:31

That's weird ~ I hadn't noticed the November bit.
One from Abisko earlier with the Aurora peeking out from behind strands of cloud.
